What's in a name? Suggestions for what to call a girl's "front bottom".

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but couldn't think where else to put it.

Anyway, DD 18 months old, still too early to potty train but developmentally she's obviously learning to speak. So when it comes to it what word are we going to use?

Boys are easy - "willy" is age appropriate and not too crude.

Girls bits don't seem to be that straightforward.

Vagina - too clinical and not actually correct when it comes to peeing.

Vulva - a bit too clinical and odd.

Front bottom - too French and Saunders.

Any suggestions?

We call it a fairy, or more usually a twinkle, but 'lady parts' we use a fair bit too.

purepurple · 17/04/2009 21:35

as a child my mum called it a mary
I still can't say the nursery rhyme Mary Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow?
without a little smirk

We call it a wee-wee place - well there's no confusion then is there?

She knows the correct name as well though.

I hate the word fanny, don't know why though, I've gone with 'bits' so far (dd is 22mo) but don't want to be prudish. Vulva is a bit bleugh as well. Have no idea what we'll go with. Maybe I'll ask DH .

angelene · 17/04/2009 23:25

sasamaxx re my name - how fab that your DD is called Angelene!! It's a PJ Harvey song from the 'Is this Desire' album and it starts:

'My first name Angelene
Prettiest mess you ever seen'

how brilliant!

GetToFalkirk · 18/04/2009 20:12

Lots of suggestions there, thanks.

Fanny was always a rude when I was growing up, king of still makes me snigger. I equate it to cock really.

DH wants to call it mooie !!! Don't know where he gets that from.

Totally agree that she should know the correct terms when she's older but I just can't let a 2 year old say vulva !! I don't use the word myself so why should she?

Anyway, thanks for making me smile and I'll take it all under consideration.

it's a willy here although I feel quim might come into play soon.

sasamaxx · 18/04/2009 21:07

Angelene - that's fantastic - need to go listen to it now!!!

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 18/04/2009 21:13

Vagina, vulva, clitoris, urethra - Anatomical names in our house as prescribed by social services - no stupid floofy names here.

And the only reason we don't go with 'urine' and 'faeces' is because 'poo' and 'wee' is almost naughty but not naughty enough to encourage 'piss' and 'shit'. So it's a good compromise.

Nyx · 18/04/2009 21:24

Well, I call it my tiddles. Blame my mum, I spent years thinking that's what it was called. I'd forgotten all about that name for years and years, until we had dd, and it came back into play without me even thinking about it.

And (even worse, if possible)...breasts are called

(can hardly bear to type this)

ding-dongs

As in "when I was a tinybaby I used to drink milk out of your ding-dongs, didn't I Mummy?"

The scary thing is, I'm so used to it that it didn't even sound strange until I thought about it, and especially now I've typed it out. Gawd, I'm mortified!

Spidermama · 19/04/2009 16:00

Well done NYX. You said it. It's out. I hope this helps you to move on.

rusmum · 19/04/2009 21:04

our cat is called cookie- could be confusing!! LOL

we just call them all bits- girlt bits and boys bits!! although we refer to balls as bonbons (dd1's word??)
