Hello all - I can't believe how fast this thread goes, I can't keep up!! So I hope you won't mind if I am terribly rude and just ask a me question??

I have been using the Itti's and BBOS for a week now and love them both - I think I have overcome the leaking problem by folding the inserts slightly differently and making sure they are very high up on DS's waist so thats good. I have 6 Itti's + 6 extra inserts and 4 BBOS but I think I need a couple more as I want to wash every other day.

My question is, what should I buy, I love the soft outers of these two nappies so would like them to have that but no idea which other ones do. One sizes would be good but not crucial.

Thanks!!

weepootle why are the BG's your favourite? Just because of one-sizeness??

nappyzonecannotcycleuphill · 23/03/2009 19:25

Blueberry side snaps are lovely and soft but sized - greenkids minkytimes are also of same material on outer but onesize - they are really good with the bamboo insert option. I love fluffy nappies

weepootle · 23/03/2009 19:35

Hi ChocOrange, I've just got on well with the BG- no leaks and not too bulky for a OS on tiny dd2. I also prefer a plain colour to patterns so not so keen on the BBOS.

I suppose what I really want is BBOS but less bulky. If that doesn't exist then I think I'll go for the itti bittis.

When you buy extra inserts for ittis, is it both pop-ons you get?

WIth regards to the mixing of fabrics, this is how I understand it:

  • Hemp is very absorbant but you always need something on top of it because it absorbs very slowly
  • Microfibre - good during the day as it is quick to absorb but doesn't soak up as much in quantity as hemp or bamboo. BUT shouldn't be used at night (unless maybe on a newborn or light wetter) because the wee can squish out and cause leaks

From what I have worked out, for night time, Hemp topped with bamboo is the best. Then daytime, either bamboo alone or hemp topped with microfibre (ie blueberry combo inserts) is fab for a heavy wetter. For a light wetter I would just use microfibre.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 19:43

weepootle - what are you using to stuff your BBOS? And how old is your baby?

ChocOrange05 · 23/03/2009 19:43

weepootle the extra Itti inserts I got were exactly the same as the ones it comes with, so yes popper ones - its good as I put him in the nappy and then next change I just change the insert (as long as its not a poo). Effectively means that 2 Itti's cost £18.75 (£13 nappy + £5.75 extra insert). Do you find the BG to be less bulky than the BBOS?

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 19:46

TLEs - sorry I can't help you with your problem. I have yet to try fleece!

Hope I haven't forgotten to answer somebody. Thats the trouble when it goes to the next page! You can't read back!

I think a minkytimes is what I want to try now really but have never seen one second hand! I like the anytimes and have yet to have a leak (and I left it on for ages today by mistake). But I only have a plain white and plain green! How boring!

weepootle · 23/03/2009 19:50

soon2be, I've been stuffing with the newborn microfibre insert that came with the bumgenius. DD2 is 14 weeks but is only 7lb.

ChocOrange, I love the idea of being able to change the insert - seems such a shame to wash those lovely outers every time. I do find the BG less bulky because dd2 is so small, probably because I can pull them tighter with the velcro.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 19:59

hmm. I was going to say to try a slimmer insert in the BBOS but if you are already only using a newborn MF one then I don't know what to suggest. You could give microfibre cloths a go and see if that is less bulky while she is so small. I don't find BBOS bulky at all but my DD is 15 months so a bit different!!

weepootle · 23/03/2009 20:06

In a couple of months when dd2 is a bit bigger, I'm sure the BBOS would be perfect- however, I don't like any of the colours/patterns enough to buy a load of them.

Looks like itti bittis are the way ahead for me.

TheNatty · 23/03/2009 20:22

weepootle:
i found that the tot bots AIO is the slimmest, i also have BG's. its OS and is like a pocket only that the insert is attatched and fold into the pocket, you can add your own inserts in the pocket.

my DD has had diareeh in this nappy and its not leaked, so i can imagine good for newborn poo.
only thing is that its velcro and its patterned but i love them as they are bamboo and super absorbant.

ellen was in her BG's all day today and was going a good 4 hours between changes and i was changing her out of habit more then need, so the easy peasy inserts are doing me well.

do let me know when u get urs soon, ive ordered some more, hope you get yours first

well DH got paid today and i spent a whopping 125 quid on nappies from one site, 25 quid on ebay and 30 on easy peasy... oh dear DH will go mad

ive got 4 new BG's, 4 new TB AIO, a changing mat and matching wetbag, loads of hemp and bamboo inserts, a ellas house nappy, and a XL wrap..

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 20:28

What is it you don't like about the BG? Just trying to think of a good nappy for you as the ittis are quite expensive if you are not 100% loving them. I haven't tried them because I prefer onesize but I have been keeping an eye out for some really cheap ones so I can give one a go!

Mommys touch are onesize pockets that have pockets so might be worth a try? You don't need to remove the insert to wash them either. I quite like mine but I do find them quite wide for most inserts so no idea what they would be like on a newborn (although can tell you in a few weeks when DD2 arrives!)

I am in the process of dying a lot of my newborn nappies bright pink! They are still in there but looking good. Hoping they will be ok though as I have mainly dyed some shaped terries that have had Velcro sewn on and they kept getting stuck to each other and closing - I am keeping fingers crossed that doesn't make them blotchy!

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 20:33

Natty! Lol! Although I have probably spent more than that I just don't notice as it is in bits and bobs. Do you find that the easy peasy hemp inserts are quite small? My preloved ones are here so I have been using them at night. She has 3 in her WNNN as well as 2 bamboo .

I might have to try the tots AIO. I hadn't realised it was onesize (sorry, I am obsessed with onesize!). Do you know the best place to buy one? Do they come in good colours?

weepootle · 23/03/2009 20:39

TheNatty, I love the look/patterns of the TotsBots but I'm really looking for a non-velcro nappy.

soon2be, I think the BG is great- I'd just prefer popper fastening to velcro. I do love the itti bittis- they just weren't my no.1 as they aren't OS. I think they would be pretty economical though with being able to change the insert.

ceb80 · 23/03/2009 20:40

TLE Replied on the last thread to say I had got my first lot of fluff! Thanks

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 20:41

soon: Are you on ClothTots? There's someone selling some v2 Bumgenius (without inserts) for only 4.50 each incl postage (with possible reductions for multiple purchases, I think):
www.createforum.com/clothtots/viewtopic.php?t=1996&mforum=clothtots

I've got a couple of v2 BG which I've tried with prefolds and I found them very reliable. I'd be quite keen on them if it wasn't that Benjamin is better in 2 part nappies (to keep him from having such easy access to nappy area for scratching).

TheNatty · 23/03/2009 20:43

soon they are the same price everywhere unfortuantly, and alot of places dont even sell them only the 2 part system.

they seriously are great, but DO get the bamboo not the fluffle, they are a few quid more but well worth it. one of the easy peasy and just the nappy and insert is enough for like 4-5 hours. my BGs need the microfibre plus a bamboo plus a hemp to do that. impressive.
only downside is they DO take a little longer to dry as they are not fleece lined they are bamboo. but they tumble in about 10 mins, so i just leave them on the airer and finish them off when needed if not dry.

but yeah ive bought 4 more so that shows how good they are.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 21:05

I tried to register with clothtots a while ago but have still not had my membership aproved? That was a good couple of weeks ago! I can't even see the link to it. I don't suppose you could PM her for me with my details or get her details? Sorry to ask, but I don't know any other way round it.

I don't really need inserts as I have tonnes of MF ones if needed but I often use bamboo in the BG anyway.

I am trying to order from babykind - do they not accept paypal? I am sure they used to but can't find how to do it now and it is asking for my card details?

swampster · 23/03/2009 21:17

ChocOrange, I second Nappyzone on the GK Minkytimes - I heart mine and want MORE! They are also relatively inexpensive...

weepootle, I just got a preloved peapod I'll let you know how I get on with it.

swampster · 23/03/2009 21:21

Only just realised peapods are sized . I've got a few months to go before I can try mine.

swampster · 23/03/2009 21:24

scroll down, popper fastening BGs, no pic...

ChocOrange05 · 23/03/2009 21:30

I have just bought a BG V3 and a Tots Bots Easyfit (even though they are not softies I think I want to try another kind too) - I might buy a GK too but then I think I have to stop before DH kills me

weepootle · 23/03/2009 21:31

Ah but swampster, it's an AIO rather than a pocket.

swampster · 23/03/2009 21:31

It's Minkytime at the ChocOs!

weepootle · 23/03/2009 21:33

I'm just about to order another 5 ittis + 5 inserts as I've decided that will probably potty train straight from size 2's which doesn't seem so bad as having to buy 3 different sizes.
