Rachel - I put DD in a disposable last night and when I changed her - it was like a puddle in the nappy . Her clothes were soaked as usual but also her bum was still covered in wee as there was nothing left for it to soak into! Thats odd though if the nappy isn't all wet - you might not actually neeed extra absorbancy.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 10:18

soon: Yes, sometimes I wonder if there's too much bulk in the front of the nappy and the urine isn't moving along further in the nappy (like the wetness gets stuck right in the front). Sometimes though the nappy is all very wet - so don't know how to predict things! But sometimes just during the day, in a very short time, Benjamin has completely soaked a Bamboozle - front to back! Thinking tonight I might have to put him in a disposable with a prefold or something wrapped around it and then an ME wrap on top! Not sure if will work, but might be worth trying till my new nappies come.

TheLadyEvenstar · 23/03/2009 10:27

Rachel, I have some bumhuggers here which i found great for piddler Zachary of a night time with an extra booster. Or i use terry square as i find these absorbant as well. also have some more tots and various other nappies....let me know and i will stick some in the post on wednesday without fail now i can walk lol

Afraid I've got a bumhugger here but not a good fit for Benjamin. So it's actually looking for a new home if anyone wants one! LOL

Got plenty of nappies on their way to me though:

2 x (new!) Upsy Daisy night nappies (organic french soy terry)
2 x used old style Wee Notions Night notions
1 x Jimmy Riddles organic velour
1 x new Neppula (or something like that) stuffable fitted orange cotton velour, coming direct from Finland from a WAHM!

So hoping at least one of the above will suit him when they arrive!

TheNatty · 23/03/2009 10:47

yeah ellen soaked thru a MEOS with 6 hemp boosters last night.. in about 3 hours.

ive orders a Ellas house new type with pocket, so maybe if i put all those boosters in that...

i need some larger wraps tho i think

mumoftoby · 23/03/2009 10:55

I am feeling lucky reading all these posts re. heavy wetters. My 2 must actually be quite light. The WNNNs that I got preloved have extra WNNN boosters giving a total of 8 layers for each I think (DS2 only really needs 3 layers though at the moment). Maybe if you do all take the plunge and order new it would be worth getting the extra boosters too (although expensive)? But I hope your upsy daisy's will work - I feel for you all especially heavily pregnant changing sheets, up in the night.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 10:58

Yes, that's the thing!!! I need like a XXXL Motherease wrap! LOL The XL ME wraps just barely cover a mega stuffed Bumble - so that's why I liked the idea of wool, since they were big & covered everything. But my Disana cover (which covers anything!) seems to have 1 leg cuff smaller than the other. It was OK once it got stretched out - but I lanolised it the other day and it's in need of some stretching before I'd risk putting him in it overnight (it's leaving marks on one leg - like the knitter twisted it a bit and it's too small on one side). I do have a brand new roomy Disana pull up pants, but it's not yet waterproof enough for nights.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 11:09

Rachel - I can't wait to hear about your UDNN as you will probably get it before me!

If the postman doesn't bring me my easy peasy order I am going to have to contact them as it has been quite a while now.

I have a whole basket of nappies I want to dye! I am tempted to do it today but I know I should really do my actual washing instead as I have spent the last few days washing the baby stuff from the loft so our clothes have been left. I am going to order some more dye too. I have one pack of bright pink to use.

What colour dyes does everybody think I should buy?

mumoftoby · 23/03/2009 11:37

Did somebody buy a WNNN without inserts/boosters? I vaguely remember it. There is possibly one for sale here

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 11:46

Yes I bought one without an insert and I did see that one for sale and was tempted. But I don't think that is the one for night time? I don't THINK it would be much better than just using some inserts I already have?

mumoftoby · 23/03/2009 11:54

soon you'll know more than me re. inserts i'm quite new to all of this. The NN one I have is tri fold with a snap in - giving 5 layers, which this sounds like - the ones I have are bamboo towelling.

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 12:03

Oh right, it might actually be good then. BUT if I use another nappy (have yet to try WNNN) - I have used 16 layers of bamboo and still have had leaks!!! So I think we need hemp really because DD is such a big wetter at night!

I need to get a move on with getting wool sorted for nights but what I don't get is:

  • How do I measure/work out the size before I know what nappy it will be used over?
  • Is there anywhere I can buy them that is already waterproof enough for night time?
soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 13:33

No fluffy post!!!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 15:33

No fluffy post here either! Depressing, huh?! LOL

treedelivery · 23/03/2009 16:15

Hello all

Q. from microfibre girl here - does bamboo need the prewashes cotton does? Hoping to use my freebie pop in today!

soon2befamilyof4 · 23/03/2009 16:22

Yes you need to prewash bamboo but as your LO is so young I think you will be fine washing just once or so and just bear in mind it won't have loads of absorbency yet iyswim?

Washersaurus · 23/03/2009 16:29

Hi, just a tip for those of you with leaky night nappies - rather than just adding another layer of boosting, try mixing the type of boosters you are using, i.e. cotton & microfibre, or bamboo and cotton etc. As some fabrics absorb quicker all over than others and some absorb initially just in one place (at the front for instance) I found this to be the case with microfibre, but I have never tried bamboo.

Err, I have no scientific evidence to prove this point though

DS1 suffers with eczema so I'm not sure about using wool on him tbh, would be worried about the lanolin irritating him.

Am half considering trying to make him some pants with a waterproof layer....I mean, how hard can it be?

treedelivery · 23/03/2009 16:30

I do. Yay, I get to stick it on just to see how it looks!

I think this one size bamboo tb will have to go back. It's really rough around the legs. But I do so love the green star pattern soo a bit . Sigh.

Might swap for another thirsties as they have a £1 off at green jelly. V soft snuggly velour. Yum. Got green, might go for blue. Got lavender wrap too. First try today so hope its ok. ME a no go for now at any rate. bummer!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 17:11

Washersaurus: Thanks for the tip. I've certainly found some bamboo to be that way. At the moment I've been really mixing fabrics though! Cotton in the Bumbles, half a bamboo terry square, and a microfibre insert! Worked OK for several weeks but all gone wrong recently. Maybe Benjamin has changed shape in some way and so not fitting properly anymore!

re: lanolin & eczema - it doesn't actually bother all eczema suffers. I was worried it would be a problem for Benjamin, but he doesn't seem to have any lanolin allergy at all. I use a nappy ointment from USA which is 15% lanolin and it's very soothing and never caused any problem. And certainly no eczema has appeared in the area of his wool nappy covers - after over 1.5 months of using it. So might be worth trying it just in case it's OK.

treedelivery: if you're not liking the binding on wraps, you really should try a fleece wrap like a Stacinator deluxe! They're lovely & soft and couldn't leave a mark on anyone (unless they happened to have a "fleece allergy"!). I've got a medium sized one, but guessing your little one would still be needing smalls!

swampster · 23/03/2009 17:14

Hi Washersaurus, my DS1 has eczema too and I find Lansinoh lanolin is one thing that doesn't irritate him. I use it instead of vaseline because mineral oils seem to make him flare up.

swampster · 23/03/2009 17:16

...MrObama might be in the market for a medium fleece Stacinator.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/03/2009 17:53

swampster: Had to laugh at the idea of MrObama being in the market for a nappy wrap! LOL

Can I ask you ladies for some advice please?

I bought a couple of each: itti bittis, bumgenius (pocket) and blueberrys. I love the ittis but would rather have a one-size so had decided that the bumgenius were my favourite.

I'm now thinking that I'd rather have popper fastening than velcro. Am I right in saying that bumgenius don't have a popper option?

If not, which nappy should I try next?

TIA
