Swapster - if they were anytimes or minkitimes I would be there but I am afraid DD is too much of a heavy wetter for funtimes!

I have spoken with the lady from UD and they also do inserts in french soy which I am going to look into for my daytime nappies.

Put DD to bed in her UDNN earlier and she pooed in it!! ARGH! Had Rachels one clean that arrived today so put that on but it is annoying as that was my last night nappy clean. I am going to do a nappy wash first thing so at least they will all be washed but it means I will have to use the drier if I want a dry one for tomorrow night! Or I could use my BBH but I don't think it has had enough prewahing for night time yet really.

I am dreading how much washing I am going to have after DD2 is born! It will be at least 2 loads a day - one nappy and one not, plus extra on days when we change beds etc. .

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 22:55

I think I am the only one who has never had a build up problem!

And for the first 6 months olf DDs life, I didn't know you were meant to use half the amount of washing powder AND used nappy san, so I was using the max amount of washing powder (as in the amount for heavy soiling in hard water) AND a dose of nappy san in every wash! . Never had problems though and that was with no extra rinsing before or after. Just one 60 wash. Lol. Now we use one bold 2 in 1 tablet and thats it. Always rinse before the wash though but don't bother at the end, unless I have a specific reason to (ie DD has a sore bum).

You are all going to think I am mad, but we ran out of loo roll the other day and I couldn't go out to buy any as DD was in bed and DH was working till 11pm. So I used washable wipes (dry) all evening (weeing every half hour!!) and I actually prefered it! I have been using them ever since! . We still have the loo roll there but for wee i have just used one and shoved in nappy bucket (which is in the bathroom anyway). Hardly any wee actually goes on the wipe and it dries you much better than loo roll does! Wouldn't have done it if we hadn't run out of loo roll but I might actually carry on! We are still on the first loo roll since DH bought it that night, where as we were going through at least one a day before (I can't stop weeing as baby is on my bladder!). So will defiantly save us money. Not something I would admit to anybody else though!

PMSL and wipe it up with a washable wipe! Makes perfect sense, of course.

For all of you about to pop, I just discovered you can hire newborn ME nappies from Little Green Earthlets for £8 a week!

TheNatty · 03/04/2009 23:06

lmao soon! i was thinking today how much money we could save wiping with washable wipes..

least im not the only one

just a thought soon, bold 2in1 uses fabric conditioner, and this is recommended not to be used for nappies as it coats the fibres and stops the nappy absorbing.
you dont think this is the cause of some of your problems with absorbancy do you??

TheNatty · 03/04/2009 23:11

oooh thats ever such a good idea.
so they are mini mother ease.. cool!

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 23:13

No bold 2in1 is the ONLY fabric conditioner you can use with washable nappies, it doesn't effect the absorbency. Most people on cloth nappy tree seem to use it fine. If I use anything else my nappies are ridiculously crispy. It was bold 2in1 or use the tumble dryer every time, which is just too expensive to run TBH and spoils the point of being eco friendly imo.

We arn't really having any problems with absorbancy now either really. We seem to have found what suits us and very rarely have a leak at anytime now. Leaked today out of the tots bots AIO but hoping it is because of lack or prewashing.

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 23:17

£8 a week sounds a lot to me? Surely you would be better off buying preloved and then selling on after? I never find I loose much off the selling cost, if anything so often just pay postage. Obviously if you were to buy new thats different but the hire ones would be preloved?

If anybody wants to hire mine for £8 a week they would be more than welcome! Lol.

TheNatty · 03/04/2009 23:18

no soon they are micro motherease.. they are not MEOS they are same shape but they are mini ones..
you cant buy them can you?

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 23:22

But surely XS sandys would be just as good?

treedelivery · 03/04/2009 23:25

Thats a shed load of money! £32 for 6 weeks no? Eh? I don't get it.

They must be bloody brilliant nappies for that amount of cash - I could buy all sorts of fluff with £32!

I'm not raving [remember that from phoenix nights?]

swampster · 03/04/2009 23:33

I'd reckon on newborn size for four weeks or less...

TheNatty · 03/04/2009 23:33

i supposed when you look at it that way.

you have fluffy funds soon

i supposed even if i bought xs sandys and sold them on it wouldnt cost that much.

swampster · 03/04/2009 23:34

As a necessity, generally, that is...

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 23:35

I make it £48 for 6 weeks or £64 for 8 weeks.

If you were to buy say some preloved XS sandys, you could probably get them for say £3 ish ish. So you could buy 16 nappies for the price of 6 weeks hire! Then if you sell them on then you would get most of that back.

Sorry, don't mean to put a downer on it - I know you were trying to help but just wanted to give my opinion!

swampster · 03/04/2009 23:39

You are right, of course, I was thinking of the price new times 20 plus wraps... I've been using mainly BTP AIOs anyway.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 03/04/2009 23:48

re: using cloths instead of loo roll, there are lots of people out there that do it! (no, never tried it myself - just seen it talked about online!) I think it's often referred to as "the family cloth" - just Google it!

soon2befamilyof4 · 03/04/2009 23:54

I haven't really discussed the whole loo roll thing with DH. He knows I used it the other day when we ran out (he laughed) but think he would be very if I were to tell him to use it. But he doesn't use much anyway, it is just me that goes through a lot so thats fine. I am a childminder too but think I would still with normal loo roll for that as I would be always having blocked drains and loosing washable wipes otherwise!

TheNatty · 04/04/2009 00:08

lol soon.
did u get funds from me?

treedelivery · 04/04/2009 00:14

I've seen a few hire schemes and they all seem expensive to me - but then I'm thinking friendly mumsnet nappy thread prices not new prices. I'd say 80-90% of my stash is pre loved.

soon2befamilyof4 · 04/04/2009 00:40

Yes I did thanks Natty - sorry forgot to say that!

Rachel - I have just used your nappy for DD tonight and she woke up just now screaming and I went up and she was soaked. Same as you described - half the nappy is still dry! I am not 100% sure it was the nappy though - there is a chance it could have been milk as she takes a bottle to bed with her but it was only down one leg (same side as the nappy was wet) and a big wet patch on the bed. Have changed her into a disposable and will do the nappy wash first thing tomorrow. I hadn't washed it yet so wondering if that will help. Really odd it happened in the same nappy though. Not sure how I can keep mine and yours seperate in the wash so I know which is which to keep an eye on the problem. The nappies are different but the inserts look the same. Might keep the booster attached to mine.

soon2befamilyof4 · 04/04/2009 00:41

tree - but the hire kits are not brand new, so it should be preloved prices we compare to. IMO anyway.

treedelivery · 04/04/2009 00:49

Totally agree Soon.

Bummer about the wet nappy btw.

soon2befamilyof4 · 04/04/2009 00:54

Its just so odd - they are both the same nappy made by the same person, same fabric etc. Only difference is mine has the night booster but that shouldn't of done this as it wasn't on long at all and was mostly dry. I jinxed myself by saying on here that we haven't had a night leak for ages!

twoclimbingboys · 04/04/2009 08:47

ooh - just changed my name. I started using my wool a couple of days ago. Blake is in a pair of woollywrap longies - so cute and effective. I'm realy impressed.
