Someone on CNT has suggested that my night leaks might be from fleece inners! Since Benjamin does really powerful wees, it can't get through the fleece quick enough and that's why it's running out. Soooo, just trying to think what next!

soon2befamilyof4 · 27/03/2009 21:54

Rachel - hope that works for you. I hadn't heard it before until I just read your thread.

DD is alseep in her UDNN - but it has only been washed once so hope it works!!

Anybody know how many times I need to wash my BBH bamboo or tots bamboo AIO? I got them today and need to prewash them. I have LOADS of dark washing to do - would you risk nappies in a dark wash do you think?

If we do still have leaks in the UDNN, I might try putting the booster on top of the fleece liner. The booster is very slim and very soft. Just a shame as fleece makes her feel so nice and dry!

soon2befamilyof4 · 27/03/2009 23:03

Oh and Natty, Upsey daisy do birth to potty pockets that are a reasonable price (cheaper than BBOS anyway) but I have never tried one so couldn't tell you what they are like. The sized oes start at around £9-10 and the BTP ones are a bit more I think.

Thanks for giving me some feedback, I know have even more to think about.
I think I will definitely try some different used brands. Didn't realise there were so many.

TheNatty · 27/03/2009 23:10

soon my tots bots aio took about 3-4 washes to become absorbant, they were crap b4 that time (if u recall leaking in 50mins the other week)
dont get disheartened, they improve massively.
unfortunatly they also take bloody ages to dry
i think because of the design, them being bamboo not fleece lined?

rachel, the tots a bamboo lined, maybe booster up one of them with hemp? you cound try a ellas house on inside out so hemp in? or like soon says how about putting some bamboo ontop of the fleece?? or even a microfibre cleaning cloth?

im sure you will get there in the end!

ellen is in a dispo tonight as ellas house takes a while to dry and i dont want to tumble it all the time it will wear out quicker. hopefully the extra one and wrap will come tomorrow, then i can rotate them!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 27/03/2009 23:25

TheNatty: thanks for the tips. Haven't got on very well with EH nappies before - not really snug enough around the legs and the hemp goes stiff etc. I like Bamboozles, but he can soak one (front to back) fairly quickly during the day, so not sure if it's ideal or not. Tonight Benjamin is in a WN NN (bamboo outer and inserts), so will see how we get on, as it's fleece lined too. Just depends on if he decides to hold it all in till morning, or if he has a big empty in the middle of the night! Some have suggested Bed Bugs (from Holdens Landing) but they're hard to get and quite pricey - even secondhand. However, I'm messaging someone about a possible swap for one - so maybe I'll get to try one after all! They're not fleece lined, but suppose to be good for heavy wetters.

soon2befamilyof4 · 28/03/2009 08:42

WE HAD A DRY NIGHT! With the UDNN with no extra boosting! It is fab. We do have the booster and inserts that come with it but it is still very slim fitting for a night nappy. It is in the wash now with the rest of the nappies so I am hoping that tonight I might be able to use either that or the WNNN so we can avoid disposables, then use the other one the next night, and then my BBH should be ready to try!

for anybody here who has a BBH - do you think it is worth trying it in the daytime while I am getting it up to absorbency? Or will it just be too bulky?

With the tots AIO natty, did you take all the booster out to dry it? I haven't washed mine yet but I thought they were meant to be fairly good because you pull the insert out and then take the booster out from inside that? Feels pretty thin once that is done.

Rachel - I would definatly give the UDNN another go but with some bamboo on top of the fleece. If you had got the booster with it I would have said to try that as the french soy is so slim fitting and soft. I wouldn't use microfibe next to the skin though, especially as your LO has bad skin already.

DD has such a sore bum. She was bleeding yesterday with it . This is all from a day of going back to disposable wipes a few days ago!

How many of you use washable wipes? I used disposables up until a few weeks ago and then bought some washables and wouldn't go back.

mumoftoby · 28/03/2009 08:54

soon congrats on the dry night.

BBHs aren't as bulky as fluffles - which I use of a day. They aren't even nearly as bulky as WNNNs.

The microfibre cloths I have are quite scratchy and rough. I wouldn't let them anywhere near eczema tbh. Microfibre is just so drying isn't it?

I use washable wipes (some of the poundland ones) and love them, although have disposable ones too for if I am disoraganised!

I have stained a lot of my wipes by replacing chamomile tea (for the wipw solution) with roibos a few weeks ago but I think it did help DS2's sore bum.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 28/03/2009 09:02

4notout -- I have 2 BBHs left in natural. Haven't heard back from Ann Van. DS has really hyper skinny legs, but otherwise they are a great nappy.

email me @ [email protected] if you're interested....

ilove Have emailed you

I use washable wipes, i didn't realise how much i save a week until i went away this week and we have used two packs of disposable wipes And dd4's bum gets red using them so have been slathering on the sudocreme.

I have found that my DD used to be fine with disposable wipes until I switched to washables, and now her bum can't take the chemicals. I did the same with the tea though! What I do now is when DD gets sore, I put a redbush teabag in her bath and not use any baby products in there and it REALLY helps. I then ue cammomile tea in the wipes. I didn't like the smell of using the red bush tea in the wipes, it stucnk everytime I opened the pot! Don't notice it in the bath though as so much more diluted and isn't shut in a box.

How many washes do you think a BBH should have before risking at night? It has only had one so far but I have a lot of washing to do in the next couple of days and the UDNN and WNNN are in the wash so should do us the next 2 days.

rusmum · 28/03/2009 10:32

HI

TheNatty · 28/03/2009 10:38

i make my own washable wipes, i buy fleece by the metre on ebay and cut it up into rounded rectangles that fit perfectly into one of those huggies travel wipes cases.

i find i can get about 200 wipes out of a 10 quid peice of fabric.
i got my sewing machine yesterday so might be making some double sided ones out of an old towel and the fleece.

but they def save me tons of money as i use them to clean hands and for faces too after meals.

i dont use tea with mine, i use tea tree drops and a tiny amount of olive oil in boiling water.
i find the olive oil is great for toms cracked eczema (he gets the behind knees and on elbow type)
i find the tea tree keeps them smelling fresh for longer as well. and i beleive its antibacterial...

TheNatty · 28/03/2009 10:39

hi rusmum, where u been?

afterglow · 28/03/2009 12:07

I put dd in her bbh during the day while I'm getting the absorbency up. It is absolutely fine, not bulky at all and you can always take one or both boosters out and then just wash them anyway. I put dd in hers first thing with woollies over the top.

I use a mix of washable and disposable wipes, dp was oddly more resistant to the reality of washable wipes than washable nappies. Anyway, I use swaddlebees wipes for hands and faces after meals, I use Ella's House wipes for changes (I find them a little on the small side tbh) and we get the Simple disposable wipes when they're on offer. It's amazing how mush longer disposable wipes last when you're not using them to clean up after meals.

Tonight we are doing our first ever cloth-night - in a boosted Ecobubs. FIngers crossed. dp will probably be drunk after a gaming day, and is looking after dd all day tomorrow so it seemed like the perfect time . I shall be trying the bbh and boosted sandys next.

mumoftoby · 28/03/2009 13:14

natty I don't kniw if it's rubbish but I have been told not to use tea tree or lavender. Apparently they are 'hormone disrupters'?

afterglow poundland & home & bargain always seem to have the simple wipes - I really like them too! My DH was also extremely resistant to washable wipes - usually very laid back but said 'for f%&*'s sake!' when I suggested we start using them.

soon2befamilyof4 · 28/03/2009 13:27

I had heard not to use tea tree too but had never heard that about lavender. I think lavender is ok as it is so much more mild. I used to be really into aromatherapy and use lavender for loads of stuff. Tea tree is quite strong and although it is antibacterial, it doesn't have healing propertied like lavender. Lavender helps the skin heal, is antiseptic and antibacterial as well as smells nice and is mild on the skin. If I were to use tea tree oil, I would definatly only use one that has been diluted in a carrier oil before being added to the wipes water/tea just to be sure.

Essential oils can eventually wear nappies more too which is why I never add them to the wash or anything unless needed.

We use a very big mug of cammomile tea with one drop of lavender oil. I might try the olive oil though, that seems a good idea.

mumoftoby · 28/03/2009 14:01

I just use camomile and a little olive oil normally.

swampster · 28/03/2009 14:07

I have heard that lavender oil shouldn't be used on boys in particular because of the hormone thingamawhatsit.

swampster · 28/03/2009 14:09

I have washable wipes from Nappies by Minki and Weenotions - the Weenotions ones are smaller, softer, and more nicely finished.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 28/03/2009 15:22

Had a dry night last night with the WN NN (bamboo outside and bamboo inserts - with nothing extra added!) So I'm pleased!! Now to try the WNNN with hemp inserts tonight. Not sure what it was about the UDNN that just didn't work for us! Oh well. Guess what works for one doesn't work for all! I'm trading one of them for a HL Bed Bug and might swap the other for something else. Thought it was best to try and sell/swap them on while they're still nearly new (and can get more for them) than to keep using them when they're not working. Though maybe it's just that the fleece was too new to cope with Benjamin's wetting - and the nappies that are well-used with more worn fleece can take the urine in more quickly! So many possibilities!

Still no baby here yet! LOL Benjamin was born at 39w 2d and I'm a day beyond that now (unless my original dates were correct and the scan has me a week early!). So we'll see....though feeling a bit anxious for it to come now! LOL Must be patient huh!

ChocOrange05 · 28/03/2009 15:24

I use camomile tea and a bit of sweet almond oil - someone on here told me lavender oil gives boys man-boobs!

soon2befamilyof4 · 28/03/2009 15:32

I might stop the lavender oil as it seems a few of you have heard it shouldn't be used. Although I don't have boys so not as bad.

Rachel - Are you selling swapping your UDNN? I MIGHT be interested, depending on size and stuff. What are you looking for swaps for? Or how much you looking to sell for?

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 15:34

Hi all - been away and plagued by illness, so need a big catch up. Hope you are all well, got the labour pom pom's out for you Rachelinscotland! Go stroke some tiny nappies for hormone rushes!

Have missed post all week as away since Tuesday am, so hoping the post office holds much fluffy post for me
