What songs do you sing to your children?

For some strange reason I have sung 'When a knight won his spurs' an old school assembly song to each of them when they were babies whilst they were having their last bottle and cuddle before bed.

I get requests for Puff the Magic Dragon when they are tired or sad, and I have been known to do that Seekers Classic 'Morning town ride'.

My 6 year old daughter likes a burst of 'She's so love-er-ly' Scouting for Girls (I think) at breakfast.

So tell me your guilty secrets and/or inspire me.

No inspiration here - DS's favourites are 'Bob the Builder' 'Fireman Sam' 'Postman Pat' and 'I'm a little teapot'.

He is v funny, he sings like a drunk .

I have often sang that song 'Take good care of my baby', not sure who its by. Its on an advert for babies, might by calpol or something...I always seem to sing it when they in the bath though! Odd.

Also my dc love this old weird country song my mum plays in her car, again I don't know who its by....could be Jim Reeves ? Its called bimbo, but its not about blondes, its about a little boy called bimbo I'll sing it for you if you like !

We couldn't remember any lullabies when DS was a baby (before helpful people gave us CDs of nursery rhymes etc) so we sang him to sleep with the Red Flag...

DS (22mo) was sitting in the back of the car earlier singing "ra ra ra cokey". Took me a while to work it was the hokey cokey.

Not just me with the mad songs then, keep em coming!

I also used to sing an obscure 80s pop song
'Hey there you with the sad face
Come up to my place
and live it up'

to my dd when she was crying.

Me and Kbear always used to do a mean duet of The Carpenters, Close To You for DD when she was little! She loved it! We still do it now actually, although she's 13 and it doesn't get quite the same response!

I'm rubbish at remembering the words so I generally make up my own but I have been know to hum the Indiana Jones theme tune to DS

O it is lovely, all about this little toddler in ripped dungarees with a shaggy dog pulling at his clothes, and candy all over his face. Must be quite old as he talks babytalk but is allowed out alone !

Makes us all think of my ds, he is our little bimbo,

Also loved 'you are my sunshine' and 'blue moon'. I was going through an ella fitzgerald phase.

I sang this to DD when she was a baby and we have just rediscovered it now (DD is 9) I always sing this to her

Morningtown ride, Magical toy, Jennifer's rabbit, We're all going to the zoo tomorrow - all the songs my dad used to sing to me, so very 60s folk related (my dad loves Tom Paxton ).

Dh sings ds Two little boys (which always makes me cry ) and Halfway down the stairs.

My mum has a whole raft of Scottish songs and lullabyes (including Coulter's Candy, Pruners) which she sang to me too, but it's more the songs my dad sang that I remember as he used to do bedtimes.

Chatkins, we do that one too, but only in the bath (weird) and have changed it to Ben-bo for our son Ben.

Shonaspurtle, why oh why haven't I sang them Jennifer's rabbit yet???? My dad used to sing it to me too. We had a Tom Paxton LP.
