Woohoo! A festive thread!

Chaotica · 29/11/2008 13:57

On a festive note, I'm trying to work out where we can put the xmas tree so that DS who is a one-man, climbing, destructo-bub with little understanding of 'no' won't get it... Do I have to reconcile myself to a tiny tree way up on high??

SpookyGrrrl · 29/11/2008 16:26

I'm having a tiny one on the window sill, but next year i'm having a HUGE buggering tree!

I've lightened my hair too- the ends are a tiny bit orange, but i'm either doing it blonde or bright red- can't decide!!

DH going out tonight, first bedtime all on my own- i'm excited! Going to dye my hair, watch Russell Brand DVD and paint kitchen cupboards.

I think we might have one place a tree could go (if I dismantle the baby changing area - after all, DS can now crawl upstairs for nappy changes). Might have to put a high-security fence around it though.

I'd go for red hair, Grrrl. But you could start with blonde to see how you like it first. I am of your night in... But I could really do with a night out too.

Have had a day of potty training relapse... Looks like I'm doing the washing again. (I guess this just happens from time to time.)

SpookyGrrrl · 29/11/2008 18:08

yes, i think blonde first. If i'm not fussed i can do red on top, but if i do red first, can't put blonde on top.

OP posts:
SpookyGrrrl · 29/11/2008 20:01

woo hoo! I am blonde and LOVE it! And i put the kids to bed all by myself! Going to finish my wine and paint my nails methinks. Hope you all having good weekends guys!

Hurrah, new thread. Like the title.

Last year we made the tree kiddy-safe by removing all the smashable baubles and replacing with felt, wood and other non-breakable types. It looked lovely in the end, very nordic.

Had our final estate agent round today and decided they are the ones we are going with. Felt v sad also as my neighbour opposite moved out today and is off to Canada shortly. Ive known her since our first pregnancy and its made me feel a bit like its end of an era . Its probably whats given me the impetus to try and move house, doesnt feel the same without her here. sob....

Glad to hear everyone thinks Im nuts to move, haha! We shall see.

Got nothing planned tomorrow and have kids on own all morning. So far an exciting trip to the supermarket is planned. All trips to cafe and soft play are off while we save money. Although I will probs spend far too much at supermarket too. {hmm]

Grrl, lets see a blonde pic! Im so Ive always wanted to try blonde.

Pinkyminkee · 30/11/2008 00:41

Hello!
Love the new thread title- it will go very well with our household as DD1 trying out the tantrum thing
LOve the sound of your hair, grrl.
I'm definitely getting mine cut next week, so I'll put a colour on it before hand. It's way too long now, gets in my way all the time.

SpookyGrrrl · 30/11/2008 07:22

i will post a picture, but i'm undecided about the colour now...i think it's just because it's such a change. Maybe a couple of days and i'll get used to it

I've had hardly any sleep, mostly due to DH. The last he said to me was that he wouldn't be late (which means pub closing time-ish) and i said i didn't mind what time it was. I fell asleep on the sofa for a bit, then went to bed. I woke a few times wondering where he was as time was getting on- 2am there was no sign, so i thought i'd ring him to check he was alright but no answer. Rang 2 of our friends who were probably with him and no answer either. My mind was going into overdrive then, so i was laying in bed wide awake for an hour, tried ringing him again, no answer. I finally fell back to sleep then woke at 4am, and could hear a dull thud downstairs (him removing his boots, not keeling over). He was rather incoherent but came to bed, where he made a half-arsed attempt to try it on with me, which i would have been up for, were it not for him half snoring in my ear while he was doing it, and then Dyl waking up. I've left him in bed, but he'll be sorry- i'm going out at 10.30 and he'll have to look after the kids. Won't be late my arse!

Hi all

Love the festive thread!!

Have had a fab weekend my mum had Dcs last night so got rat arsed but at least had a lie in!!

Went to a birthday party this afternoon and DS had a great time. He joined in playing pass the parcel, musical chairs. I was so proud I almost had a tear in my eye (how pathetic am I!!)

Chaotica · 30/11/2008 22:58

Evening, All Glad you're all finding your way to the festive thread, and that most of you seem to be having a good weekend.

LOL at your DH's antics, Grrrl. Did he suffer accordingly? One of the problems with becoming a parent I've found is that my stamina for wild living is non-existent. Not that I live a blameless lifestyle or anything, but I'm a complete wimp.

DP tried to give me an afternoon off to do some work today, only for DD to have what could euphemistically called a major potty training failure as soon as they got inside a shop. Poor DP... (I wondered why the door went only 15 minutes after they left.) So I had to work while talking to a 2 year old - effective! (She told her nana on the phone that she'd had a lovely day though - utterly oblivious (so we obviously stuck to the rule of not making a fuss )

SpookyGrrrl · 01/12/2008 07:17

Chaotica- he spent almost the whole day on the sofa, after getting up after 12pm. I had to cancel all my plans for Sunday and did everything myself with the kids. I told him i'd been worried sick by 3am wondering if he'd been beaten up or arrested etc, and that he'd spoiled my Sunday totally. He kept apologising, but i don't think he appreciated how upset i was. I stopped wanting to kill him around 3pm and bought him some papers and one of those disgusting microwave burgers he likes to eat. It was the fact that he didn't contact me or see that i was trying to ring him that upset me- if he'd just said he'd be home at 4am i wouldn't have minded!

Anyway- drumroll - Dylan slept until 6.50am after waking once as he was soaked through. And George until 5.45am!! He's getting a present today as he's got a few ticks on his reward chart. He points to it and says 'bed' so he knows what it means.

Hello ladies!

Yes I am hogging DHs laptop again in order to post, and I am unable to connect up the viao because I need the bloody extention for all the bloody christmas lights I have up!! Yes, the tree is up (it is maaahoosive - 7ft and about as wide) I have garlands, LED lights, vases with lights in, lights in the front garden trees and bushes....well you get the picture. So, for now, DHs laptop is it.

Grrrl firstly you, definatly post photo of the new blonde you! Are you having more fun yet? Well, except your your DH getting in at all hours, and you having to cancel your plans - mmmm not much fun at all for you. And I can totally understabd why you were so pissed, I would have been too. And I have a simular experience on sunday too. My DH went out with my dad, to a really rough pub, and wondered in at 11 (no not late) but he was totally shitfaced. Could not talk, walk etc and my dad said he was drinking green aniseed shots. So, I had plans for sunday with the family though, and it ended up a day of housework, looking after the girls single-handedly, and coping with a whingy DH and his hangover

Well other news is Izzy is on cusp of first steps, and has mastered the stairs.

Freya is being an absolute darling right now and can recite the whole chorus of Jingle Bells word-for-word perfect. She sounds very sweet and kept singing at everyone in Tescos today (sometimes very loud)

SpookyGrrrl · 02/12/2008 05:32

jewels, your lights sound great, and i get Jingle Bells is so cute! George is counting, and that's cute enough!

Bought George some angel delight and a Toy Story DVD yesterday for being so good and getting ticks on his chart- he looked so proud!

Staying in for a day of heating, cuddles and Toy Story today i think. Going to get a tree this week, but just a small one this year. Need to finish painting the kitchen before the kids party aswell.

Can hear George scampering around- 5.30am isn't too bad, he's managed 5.45am too, so i might move the 'curfew' on a bit this week.

Chaotica- is it you that's veggie? If so, what are you having for Xmas lunch? I eat fish, and step MIL said about a fish dish this year I don't fancy fish for Xmas, but she's cooking, so i'm not going to say anything!

GoodDaysAndChristmasDays · 02/12/2008 15:14

HI all,

Just a quickie. Hope you are all well.

Had a good weekend at my parents' house. Finished off the Christmas shopping and even wrote my cards while I was there.

Our trees (one in playroom, one in lounge) are up and DH just put the outdoor icicle lights up.

Can we make a start on the festive names as it's December .

LM/GDACD

TheGreatChristmasEvie · 02/12/2008 15:24

Hello..can I join please?I have two DD's, 17 months and 3 on Boxing day..(I realise I am cutting it fine with DD1 )

Both DD's are sick at the moment with coughs and colds and sticky conjunctivitus.Sleep seems to have gone out of the window in our house as they are up all night cough cough cough.

Have your kids close together they said. They will always have someone to play with and will be friends for life. They forgot to tell me about the bit where they both get sick at the same time, forget how to get to sleep and get snot all over everything, including me!

XmasFairyGrrrl · 02/12/2008 17:49

Hello ChristmasEvie- totally agree about sickness / sleep / snot (and we won't kick you out when they're 3yrs old, we were formerly the 2 under 2 Thread, and changed the title to suit ourselves!)

Here's my Xmas name anyway ladies!

Jewelsandgems · 02/12/2008 20:53

Hello ladies

I say definatley time to get in the festive spirit! And after being the first ones to put up our tree, now there is like another 5 houses now boasting trees and outside lights! yay! do I need more lights?

GDABD/LM definate at your playroom!

fairygrrrl it sounds like Dylan is getting the hang of the sleeping later thing, 5.45 is not bad at all!

I have just returned from bodybalance and am having a glass of white wine. It was hard tonight, but feel all invigorated We had snow here today, so had an excellent day; mum and dad came over and then we all went for a walk to town (snuggled down in scarves, hats, mittens etc etc...) and we had a very lovely day. And more snow forcast for Wednesday night yay!

nothing else to report, happy Tuesday!

Chaotica · 03/12/2008 00:23

Evening all and welcome ChristmasEvie.

Like the xmas names fairygrrrl and Gooddaysandchristmasdays.

Jewels - Freya sounds cute with Jingle Bells and your decorations sound great. Must get some up ourselves soon. But put the extension leads down now, Jewels - You've don enough! You mustn't let the neighbours lead you into a christmas lights arms race or before you know it, your electricity bill will be more than your house is worth. (My CM is american and she tells tales of the neighbours in california competing wildly to put up the most christmas bling.)

Too tired to post much (too much work on, too little time for MN or RL). Must sleep instead.

(I'll get around to veggie xmas stuff later, Grrrl. [greed emoticon])

TheGreatChristmasEvie · 03/12/2008 09:15

What is body balance? Some kind of exercise class?I would love to do something like that but by the time I get back from work and get the DD's sorted and dinner made its about 9 o clock and I havent the energy to do much more than go to bed.On my own for that matter.Poor DH doesnt get a look in at the moment

DD1 was coughing all night again last night so I had her in bed with me.DH went in the spare room, the thought being he would get up with DD2 when she woke up with her snot etc.Of course DD2 slept like a log all night DH says he feels like a new man.I feel like death and am having to take the morning off work.
You can bet that if I elect for dd2 tonight she will be awake every 10 minutes!

TheGreatChristmasEvie · 03/12/2008 09:18

Oh, decided to trim up a bit yesterday and hung the lights etc round the fireplace.DD2 promptly pulled it all down.DD1 never did this so thought it would've been fine.
I dread to think what will happen on Saturday when we get our huge tree.I compromise on alot for these kids, but I will not be denied a massive real tree.Am sure it will end up being climbed but still..

Kaybeeand2boys · 04/12/2008 04:28

helloooo
just popping by to say hi and we are still alive, dont have internet and feel like i am missing a limb
Hope everyone is well, we are all ok

XmasFairyGrrrl · 04/12/2008 07:20

Hi Kaybee!!!!!

Sleep has gone downhill again here- both boys (and DH) are full of cold. We're so knackered

Anyway- better start getting the boys ready so i can get ready for work.

JustKeepSingingCarols · 04/12/2008 07:26

Hi Kaybee

Welcome Evie

Grrl - bad night here too
i think i've been up since 3.....
luckily i went to sleep at 9ish but argh.
and of course no dh - away with work, again.

ho hum.

Chaotica · 04/12/2008 09:36

Morning, All. And Hi Kaybee! Have you got the jetlag and new house problems sorted with the DSs yet? I hope so.

I know I have no right to moan because my kids sleep well past 5am... But why is it that the only day this week when I might have had a lie in, Connor was up and ready to go? I wouldn't mind, but he's wanted to sleep later than me the rest of the week.

He then managed to fall head first off the sofa and do a somersault, and I should be posting a "has my baby got concussion??" thread... Instead he laughed. Unfortunately that won't teach him not to do it again.

christmasevie - I know what you mean about the second child wrecking things that you thought were childproof. Maybe it's because there isn't that much left around the place to wreck...
