Hi all,

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I'm just enjoying the peace as it's the first time in a week that I have had the house to myself (sort of). DH at work all day , and the girls both asleep.....

Actually, I think DD2 has just woken up .

Chaotica · 26/12/2008 21:57

Hope you all had a great xmas!

Chaotica · 26/12/2008 21:59

Damn - grrrl, about the philosophy - I was relying on you! (Don't get the idea I know any either )

BTW - Does anyone else's toddler not really get xmas (or care much about it). I was quite surprised how unimpressed DD was. She's enjoyed playing with the presents, but I could have given her a corner of screwed up paper and told her it was a chocolate ice-cream and she'd have been happy... Maybe she's not a very materialist kind of grrrrl (yet).

lilLAURAand4poorlykids · 27/12/2008 11:57

hi all havnt been on mumsnet in ages think last time was when i had dd2 i now have dd3 too
here goes i have dd1 aged 5, ds aged 3, dd2 aged 1 and dd3 aged 6 weeks do i qualify for the thread.

i put the normal xmas tree up this yar and was shoked that the 3 and unders didnt touch it but dd1 did mmmmmmmmm
apparantly i put the baubles all in one place on the tree but i stricly recall making sure they were all spaced apart nicely who do we believe mummy or dd1???

goodchristmasgirl · 27/12/2008 13:11

chaotica I know what you mean about toddlers and Christmas. DD1 is 2.5 yrs old and she was quite excited about opening a few pressies, but lost interest very quickly, which I was suprised at. It even got to the point where we were saying 'do you want to open this one from Aunty GCG?' and she would say, 'no thanks, I'll open it later' !! We ended up saving half for boxing day.

lilLAURAand4poorlykids · 27/12/2008 13:17

dd1 was exactly the same she ended up crying when she was that age cause it was all too much for her

dd2 was off hiding in the dining room with her new toy buggy and we didnt get her to open any more after that

Jewelsandgems · 27/12/2008 14:35

Hello girls and hoping you all had a totally fabulous christmas. We did - is was great. We were at mum and dads and girls were total angels! Izzy did not cry at my brother, and a good time was had by all. However, this may be a strange drawback, but mum and dad bought the girls way too many presents. There are loads of them - we do not have room in our usual toyboxes for them (and yes we have already have a clearout!) Infact, there was that many, that the girls were rather overwhelmed I think. And like yours chaotica is got to a point where I think they just wanted to be left to play with the already opened presents, before another was thrusted at them!

We bought Izzy a little shopping troller babywalker and already she is taking little steps, and standing without holding onto anything/anyone. Freya loves all things princessy, and DH and I got lots of nice stuff too (and don't even get me started on the beautiful coat I snapped up in the zara sale!)

What are you all doing new year? Since having the girls, we don't bother with new year - but interested to hear what others do.

And I am off out tonight yay!!

SachaF · 27/12/2008 15:45

Hmm we were discussing going for a family run on New Years Day (running = coffee and cake stop as well), but am still nursing flu here so maybe not. We always celebrate the day by doing something outdoors rather than the midnight bit - a lovely walk last year with ds (in rucksack) and the year before a short walk in the forest (as ds was 1 week old and I couldn't walk much!).

Am now in the 2 under 3 brigade rather than 2 under 2...

We started pressies on the sunday before christmas and finished them boxing day....it was nice spreading them out, each one was valued best for a day!

lilLAURAand4poorlykids · 27/12/2008 17:23

not any plans for new year as such probably have a few mates over to play the wii apparantly its most fun tipsy with friends

Chaotica · 28/12/2008 00:07

Glad to hear DD isn't the only one who can't keep up with the pace. I wish we'd thought to stagger the presents more than we did - could have kept xmas going for weeks.

lilLAURAand4poorlykids · 28/12/2008 09:34

i think its the age becaus ethey dont understan why they are getting all these presents , and the annoying bit is you save what you think is the best present till last and the get so amused with a stocking filler that they are not interested in anything else thats why i gave dd2 the buggy early on in the prezzies giving lol

XmasFairyGrrrl · 28/12/2008 11:06

Glad you all had a good Xmas. Ours has been a bit crappy, although the kids were oblivious and seemed to enjoy. Our kitchen flooded Xmas day and our neighbour rescued us- thank god. Xmas at PILs was something i won't be repeating again, and today the car is knackered- which financially is the last thing we need. Plus step MIL was going to have both boys tonight and we were looking forward to a nice meal and quiet night, but she phoned last night to say she's not having them now. God i sound miserable- i'm boring myself.

No plans for New Year- we usually have a couple of drinks then go to bed by midnight.

lilLAURAgladtobemeagain · 28/12/2008 11:22

sounds lik eyour having as much luck as us then our car decided to die on us yesterday, and my kitchen sink plumbing fell apart yesterday as i pulled the plug out flooding evrywhere all under my new floor boards, council said i couldnt use washing machine or sink until mon ahhhh had to do washing up in a bucket this morning

goodchristmasgirl · 28/12/2008 15:04

My DH is working NYE but my brother is now coming up to stay with me. He's recently split with someone who has now turned very nasty and is threatening him, so I'm glad he'll be with me.

Jewelsandgems · 29/12/2008 19:33

What awful luck grrrl but you know they say these things come on 3s, so hopefully you have had your 3 now, and should only encounter good things from now on

GCG hope all is ok for your brother, and sorry to hear your DH is so far away. Do you speak on the webcam? my brother's girlfriend is in NY and has been for the last 2 years. They speak every night on the webcam and they say this makes all the difference!

DH was at work today so had a nice day with the girls. Until my parents had an argument and my mum came over (it feels to me that she always to take over Freya from me - whether in my head or not don't know, but there you go)

Anyway girls just about to mix a cosmo and have some dinner.

Chaotica · 30/12/2008 13:08

Sorry to hear about your floods and knackered cars, ladies. Our car is about to give up too, I try to be a nice as possible to it.

Aaaaaaaargh!

We've had rants on here before about the dangers of grandparents houses, so I won't go on. But poor DS has had to be carried for what seems like days as we've visiting my mum and dad (who live separately). It was lovely to see them, although DS didn't have a good time . If I hear one more person say "it's ok - it's quite safe to let him explore around here..." only to find a rack of heavy pans, sharp knives, a hot oven and a stack of dangerous pills within reach (and that list is edited) ... And we have to visit DP's mother this weekend and she has more breakables than my parents.

(DS was so glad to be home last night.)

(Sorry - I did rant and go on after all, but I just needed to let off steam.)

SachaF · 30/12/2008 21:04

Oh Chaotica, it's so difficult being at houses without small children isn't it! We spent two nights at my mum's, she's really good saying just move stuff, but she was a bit shocked when I said ds won't sleep in a cot anymore - she said 'well he'll just have to!', so we had ds in with us on the floor rather than him having his own room - I still managed to sleep though him getting up and leaving the room one morning tho! (oops). (In my defense I think dd had 3 feeds that night).

It's just not as relaxing as being in a house with other young children though, always having to keep an eye on them.

Chaotica · 30/12/2008 23:38

SachaF - we had to barricade DD into her room at my mum's (which was OK as we were outside of it) but I was terrified that her or DS would end up falling down the (steep stone) stairs. I'm not looking forward to this weekend at all, although we do get to stay in a travel inn instead of at the 'MIL's, so there's only so much that can go wrong there... Isn't there?? [Hopeful emoticon]

...Besides all that, DS has been so clingy since we got back I am beginning to lose the plot. And DD has a temperature (again).

XmasFairyGrrrl · 31/12/2008 07:02

the 'oh they're alright' thing at relatives houses drives me nuts too. They're always just about to fall off something / smash something, and everyone else seems blind! I feel like giving them a pair a scissors and telling them to run with them and get it over with!!

Had a shitty start to the day- i smacked George's hand twice this morning because he was dragging Dyl across the floor and ignoring me I did apologise but i hate it when i do something like that- i always think his first memory will be me losing it

Got someone coming to give me a quote for redecorating our living room and knocking down a wall later. Will be messy, but worth it. Can't wait for the wall to go!

Making curry for tonight. We'll prob be in bed by 10pm, but who cares!!

SachaF · 31/12/2008 13:00

All the better energised to start the new year XmasFairyGrrrl!

Sympathise with the smacking hand thing - J has had a few NCIS style head flicks when he does something dangerous to his sister, I know I shouldn't as I don't want him to copy me but sometimes it is safer to push them away - dd has enough red marks on her face! I know I should put him straight on the naughty spot but then I'll have to eg stop dd's breastfeeding and she'll cry and be difficult to calm down when the bf'ing is stopping her crying from whatever he's doing....sorry, rambling!

We're moving out for 3 weeks in Feb for new kitchen, lounge doors, hall floorway....it will look fab! Luckily going to sil's who has 4 kids 7 and under so it IS safe!

Chaotica · 31/12/2008 17:28

Bleurgh... I am not immune to my children's illnesses. Went out for lunch with DP today which was nice.

...Not that we were doing anything tonight anyway, although I'll probably be up to nurse a vodka for the occasion.

Sympathies, Grrrl over trying to get George to behave - it's really hard. And suspect Connor is going to be so much harder than Freya was once he hits toddlerhood. I'm still dreading the weekend visit to ILs - I can't control a big adventurous baby for a whole visit (nor would I want to, the poor lad wants to explore a bit), but I suspect that I'll be tutted at constantly for lacking discipline (they tutted at Freya for picking up a CD when she was a similar age )

Have a happy new year, Ladies

luckymummy74 · 01/01/2009 14:08

Grrrl don't worry, I'm sure they won't remember us 'losing it' . My earliest memory is very clouded but it was when I was about 5yrs old. I can't remember being a toddler.

Jewels Your post cracked me up, I was very confused, then I realised that as I said DH working NYE (New Year's Eve) you must've thought I meant he was working in NY (new york!!!). Hee hee! Fortunately NY have their own ambulance service so they don't need to nick ours at new year!!! My friends always take the piss out of me for abbreviating everything!!
I just keep chuckling to myself thinking of me talking to him on webcam when he is 20 mins away in the next town, on an ambulance!! .

I stayed in with my brother, it was fine. I saw the new year in with a cup of tea and a box of maltesers!!! (crazy!)

Oh, and my new year's resolution is to stop name-changing...you'll be pleased to hear! Promise to stay as luckymummy now.....cos that's what I am .

Happy New Year all of you!

LM xxx

Jewelsandgems · 01/01/2009 19:17

LM PMSL and [silly willy emoticon] of course NYE means new years eve and not New york (but that does the 'e' stand for? what was I thinking?)

Although in my defense girls, I am blonde - very very pale beige blonde - so I will use that as my excuse

Izzy fell down the stairs today, she was half way up and then fell. I was upstairs dressing Freya, DH was watching Izzy. And when I say 'watch' this obviously means 'take no notice of' Grrrr! Anyway, she was fine, though I wasn't!!

We spent the night in, had a lovely long sleep and then we went out today to do some scenic walking, it was a beautiful clear day. Bundled the girls up and off we went.

Just put them to bed, and time for a glass of wine and a last look at the christmas decorations; coming down tomorrow .

Night all, xx
