How often do you bath your children?

Just wondering... most people seem to give them a bath every night. We have three (aged 1, 3 and 4) and bath them on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. They get a quick wash on the nights they're not bathed. Should I be bathing them every night??

my 2 have a bath about twice a week, dd1 has excema and bathing too much doesnt help. they dont smell or anything. we only wash hair once a week as it would be easier to bath the cat.

I do every night, gets him into a routine (although I am not a routine freak) and it's his fun water play time. He is a grubby brat cherub so needs it. Poor ds2 (12 weeks) has one less often - it kills my back so only when DH is off he gets one! When DS was about 1 ish it was less often too.

Wed, Fri and sundays here.

scorpio1 · 27/11/2008 17:56

every other day, for alll 3.

mrsruffallo · 27/11/2008 17:56

I think a bath every night is environmentally irresponsible. Twice a week here.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 27/11/2008 17:57

Sundays Tuesdays and Wednesdays. DS has a good wash after preschool or when we've gotten messy in the park.

beansontoast · 27/11/2008 17:59

dd everyday now...since she loves it and asks for it.

ds every two or three days

mersmam · 27/11/2008 18:01

This is very encouraging - have always felt like a secret scruffbag in this respect as other parents all seem to have a nightly routine which includes bathtime.

I did bath DS very night but I reckon every 2nd night is fine now or sometimes every 3rd depends on everyones mood.

Its not part of his routine it was when a baby but now hed much rather cosy up on the couch and watch bedtime hour read a story. Although tis is only every 2nd night

Buda · 27/11/2008 18:06

I used to do DS every night as part of bedtime routine but he is now 7 and doesn't really need it. Shower every night in summer as he gets v. sweaty but now a bath every 2nd night or so.

DH would bath him every night. I don't think that he needs it, it is good for his skin or good for the environment.

littleboyblue · 27/11/2008 18:07

I bath ds everyday just for the routine thing. Wash hair once-twice a week.
We find that he doesn't settle too well if he doesn't have a bath

Oblomov · 27/11/2008 18:09

I don't think I have ever done 'every night'.
Every 2-3 days, here.

MrsSanta · 27/11/2008 18:10

Everynight in this house, both dc's love it and they are clean.

Thread other week they was dc once a 3/4 weeks, yuk.
Seemed quite common to wash less often. how minty.

girlsnightout · 27/11/2008 18:32

Sunday, Tuesday and Thursdays. Just off upstairs to get the taps running

quickdrawmcgraw · 27/11/2008 18:35

bath once a week and shower every second morning

WowOoo · 27/11/2008 18:42

Every other night here too.

tegan · 27/11/2008 18:46

We all bath every evening - are we too clean?

noonki · 27/11/2008 18:50

every other night if necess, but less if DS2;s ezcema has come back, then as little as poss.

I also don't ever use soap on them and only wash their hair every few weeks with shampoo (unless they have been dumping their tea on their heads )

I'm allergic to soap so feels weird to use on them.

Roobie · 27/11/2008 18:52

Every other night on average although it is not unknown for them to go 3 or 4 nights without if I am stressed out and just want to get them 'put away' quickly.

Bumperlicious · 27/11/2008 18:52

Once or twice a week (dd is 18 mo)

Acinonyx · 27/11/2008 19:19

On average twice a week but it varies depending on grubbiness and mood (dd is 3). Hair once a week. Dd also has eczema so I don't use soap.

Colditz · 27/11/2008 19:20

twice a week in bath oil. More if they look dirty. Less for ds1 if his eczema is flaringf.

whoingodsnamewasi · 27/11/2008 19:21

2-3 times a week.
