How often do you bath your children?

Just wondering... most people seem to give them a bath every night. We have three (aged 1, 3 and 4) and bath them on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. They get a quick wash on the nights they're not bathed. Should I be bathing them every night??

They dunk in the bath probably up to five times a week, but not much soap as dd1 has sensitive skin. Hairwash once a week generally, although it often gets rinsed during play in the bath. When they don't have a bath they have an all over flannel wash. They are clean. I think every night bathing is more relevant when they are tinies.

TUesday, Thursday, Sunday for the older two (9 and 7)

Eerynight for 2 year old, just because it helps him go to sleep.

Every night in theory but DD is so tired at the moment that often she crashes before I can bath her - so then she pops in the shower in the morning instead.

Every night except if we are out late.
Its a nice way to pass the last hour before bed, otherwise they are tired and whingy and its miserable. In the bath they are happy and splashing and its much nicer for all of us!

Used to bath ds every night from birth as to introduce a rountine now its 3 times a week tops!!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 27/11/2008 19:54

DS is 2yrs, used to have a bath every night because he enjoyed it, but now sometimes too tired if he hasn't slept in the afternoon so goes straight to bed - does have a quick 'lick and a promise' (as my late gran would say) with a flannel on non-bath nights.

Dunno when he last had his hair washed tho, would have to ask DH as it's def his job...

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 27/11/2008 19:55

Every night. Its part of bedtime routine and they love it

slayerette · 27/11/2008 20:01

Every night for DS - part of his settling down routine for bed and he enjoys it. I wash his hair at least three times a week but only so I can give it a good lather with the Anti-Nit shampoo

(all natural, btw, not that chemical stuff!)

I bath my two alternate nights. I couldnt do them every night it would be too much. Although sometimes they only get done twice a week if things are manic. Theyre not dirty or smelly.... obviously if we have an explosive nappy then they ge a quick dunk in the bath but they just get done as it is needed. I dont have any shame in the fact that theyre not bathed every night. They have gone 2 weeks without a bath before when things have been bad and shock horror theyre still alive

BarcodeZebra · 27/11/2008 20:19

Whenever. Just had two bath-nights on the trot which followed about six days of flannel washes.

Quattrocento · 27/11/2008 20:27

I always bathed mine every night. Now they are 8&10 I am surplus to requirements, and they tend to bath themselves ...

Piccalilli2 · 27/11/2008 20:39

Every night. Dd1 loves it as part of her bedtime routine and it's a nice way to wind down as she doesn't nap and can be very knackered after nursery. Dd2 is currently v grubby as we're weaning and she poos everywhere and gets food everywhere.

preggersplayspop · 27/11/2008 20:44

In the past every night (he is 18 mo) but have dropped it down to every 2/3 as his excema seems to get worse after bathing and he doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as he did before. Hasn't made too much difference to our nighttime routine, he still fights sleep whatever I do!

Hairwash less frequent, depends on how much food is stuck in it and how much he resembles a scarecrow as a result.

Bewilderbeast · 27/11/2008 20:45

2-3 times a week, he is 2. If he's filthy for some reason he might get an extra one.
