My DP is Welsh, but only knows a handful of phrases... but I know that there are a couple he would to know.

Would someone be so kind as to tell me how to say (and write)

"I love you"
"Good Girl"
"Well Done"

Thankyou oodles. Thankyou and disgusting are about the extent of my knowledge!!! Ooh, and "big pit"... the joys of road signs...

moondog - Dwi siarad dipyn bach ond ddim ysgrifenni. Dd yn dweud - Paid am siarad yn Cymraeg. Ti yn siarad fel babi.

Dwi'n hoffi family tree. Diolch am meddwl am siarad gyda dy fam di.

Dwi'm swr dwi'n nabod fe. A little while ago, I shredded the libellous, incredibly funny booklet thing that we used to produce once a year. I was mentioned a few times and I didn't want the kids to read it! I also binned, I think, a list of all the ND1 and 3s and HND 1 and 3s. If I hadn't, he'd have been on the list and I could have worked out who he was from the home address! I should have a photo of him on the long photo that was taken once a year. Do you still have his photo from his 3rd year? I'd be in it, too.

Pixiefish - Dim prob!

Gwely am fi, dwi'n meddwl!

marthamoo · 17/03/2005 23:56

Well, I spent 4 years in Cardiff and am married to a non Welsh speaking Welshman.

He's now chunnering on to me in Welsh to try and convince me he is fluent. Even I know Boredar (sorry about spelling). He knows The Lord's Prayer in Welsh and his school song...

He also knows an extremely rude phrase but I will not attempt to transcribe it here.

JoolsToo · 18/03/2005 00:01

Nos da? - I thought it was 'no star'

moondog · 18/03/2005 00:04

What rude phrase?!
God, I really should go to bed....

pixiefish · 18/03/2005 07:46

pray do tell marthamoo.... thumb twists if you don't

flamesparrow · 18/03/2005 08:34

Haia Gymry,
Moondog- ydy'r cwrs yng Nghaernarfon ar gael i unrhyw un. Mae gen i ddiddordeb mawr mewn therapi cerdd? Mae mam yn athrwes ar blant hefo anghenion arbennig, ac mae hi wedi bod yn gwneud therapi cerdd hefo'i phlant hi ac yn camol llawer arno.

tiptop · 18/03/2005 09:43

flamesparrow - You're welcome. One thing this thread proves is that the Welsh are big talkers. If you need to know anything else, just shout!

marthamoo - Go on!

moondog - Is the date on your photo 1987? If so, I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours! I can't work it out from the name but maybe your dh and I weren't there at exactly the same time due to the sandwich year.

edam · 18/03/2005 09:50

Don't know if this is the rude phrase Marthamoo is thinking about but is one of the very few Welsh phrases my dad taught me... and it's very, very rude.

yaci dar pob cymru
pwll dyn bob cys

Spelling may be a bit off - basically means 'cheers to the Welsh and a*holes to the English' (lit. 'foreigners').

marthamoo · 18/03/2005 09:57

I would have to write it phonetically..

dossie cachia vam der van?

Something like that. It means "go sh*t on your mother's head" apparently.

tiptop · 18/03/2005 10:01

edam - That's a very good attempt at the spelling. Yes it is rude, but I think marthamoo's takes the prize for being very rude!

marthamoo - I've never heard of that one! It is very rude, you're right!
