Is it a dreadful thing to let you 6 year old take their ds to church whilst we attend a christening?? Admittidly i don't let him bring it out when we go for dinner as i like us all to chat but is it so bad for an hour long christening service provided the sound is turned off? i would normally take him a magazine/toys to keep him quite anyway, so is this acceptable or rude?

rude - take a book or pens and paper.

hercules1 · 22/11/2008 21:32

Dont do it. It will look awful.

nickytwotimes · 22/11/2008 21:32

I think it is rude tbh.
6 is old enough to sit through a christening.

just worked it out!! Wouldn't bother me as he'd be quiet & occupied.

Doobydoo · 22/11/2008 21:33

I think you are trying to wind people up.

Kbear · 22/11/2008 21:35

rude - colouring acceptable - no idea why!!

BananaFruitBat · 22/11/2008 21:36

Incredibly rude. By all means let him take it to play with while everyone's milling around, or sitting down waiting for it to start, BUT make sure he understands that as soon as the service starts it goes away into your bag. I don't think anyone would object to that very much.

hercules1 · 22/11/2008 21:36

I agree with kbear- also no idea why!

cornsilk · 22/11/2008 21:36

lol kbear - why is colouring acceptable in church? Maybe because it's 'educational.' Send him with brain training. Or Mario in the brain training box.

bythepowerofgreyskull · 22/11/2008 21:37

Very rude..

leoleo · 22/11/2008 21:37

I agree with Banana - also the clicking of the buttons would be distracting.

Zahrah · 22/11/2008 21:38

Oh this one is hard because I understand where you are coming from - my 7 year old son would struggle to sit still and more so in an environment that he is not used to. And the thought of him disturbing someone elses day would scare me even more.

I would go with turning the sound turned off and sit at the back ready to pull him if the need arises.

myermay · 22/11/2008 21:38

ok, thanks just thought i'd double check

OP posts:
myermay · 22/11/2008 21:40

it's not that i think he won't sit still, i know he will - it's more the boredom factor.

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 22/11/2008 21:40

He doesn't need to sit still though.
I is okay for him to fidget a bit.
No bloody Ds though.

AMumInScotland · 22/11/2008 21:40

Can he play with it without jumping around or shouting at it? If so, I don't think it would be that bad, with the sound completely off.

nickytwotimes · 22/11/2008 21:40

IT, sorry!

nickytwotimes · 22/11/2008 21:41

THE BOREDOM FACTOR!
I'm sorry, but you are kidding here aren't you?
Fgs, life is fucking boring - he might as well get the hang of playing movies in his head now - useful life skill.

hercules1 · 22/11/2008 21:41

It's okay for kids to be bored.

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 22/11/2008 21:42

I don't think it's appropriate

It's important for children to learn how to sit and be quiet when the occasion demands it, and not expect to be constantly entertained

certainly at 6yo anyway

myermay · 22/11/2008 21:43

Nickytwotimes, this is not the type of church we'd normally go to, it's rather formal and old fashioned - bums on chairs and lots of shhhh!!

i will take a few books and paper to keep amused

OP posts:
moondog · 22/11/2008 21:43

Incredibly rude.
If a 6 year old can't keep wquiet for an hour then there is no hope.
Sit down
Shut up
Bloody listen

That's my philosophy

controlfreakyBANG · 22/11/2008 21:44

it is rude and disrepectful. why shoiuld a 6yo expect / demand to be "entertained" the whole time? he's old enough to understand what the service is all about surely?

lilymolly · 22/11/2008 21:45

agree with moondog exactly

Zahrah · 22/11/2008 21:47

As long as you have the sound turned off or he is wearing headphones (bit more risky though) and you are sat at the back ready to pull - then I don't see a problem and I don't think it is rude as I can understand the reasons.
