Anyone recommend a good highchair?

My parents want to buy ds one for Christmas, but theres so much choice! Any thoughts?

If they are flush, then a Tripp Trapp. If not, an Ikea Antilop. Nothing else is worth it.

antilop - best £12 I've ever spent.

Hard to recommend one without knowing what you want from it - do you want your DC eating from tray and/or up at the table, do you want it to be transportable, look good, etc?

I have the Handysitt - fits on a chair and fits our decor, DS sits up at table for BLW, easy to remove and put in the bath to give it a shower down.

I asked this some time ago and was given the same answers. I have a phobic fear of crusty ready break type goop and I am shuddering as I type this. For that reason I second the Ikea antilop. It's about £15, 12 for the chair and 3 for the tray. The legs pop into the base like a tent leg so when I gets really caked in goop you can bung the lot in the garden and pressure wash it without fear of damaging it. I got one for each for my DTs and they now sell them in blue and red. You can even stack them on top of the other so although they dont fold they really dont take up much space at all.
I'd deffo go for the ikea one.

I had a vile crusty padded one for ds1 and bought 2 Antilop ones for my subsequent twins. I'd have asked for a aesthetically pleasing Trip Trap or the mothercare copy if it was a present.

OK, I am going to put my hand up and for the first time admit that actually, I am not that impressed with my Tripp Trapp. It was bloody expensive, isn't high enough for my table, and I have to keep an allen key in my keys and other detritus bowl to dismantle it to get the bloody cushion off to wash it every so often.

I wish I had bought the ikea one.

I dont know what planet I was on when I thought the tripp trapp would match the dining room furniture. Of course it doesnt match! Its a childs high chair! It sticks out like a sore thumb! White plastic would be no more obtrusive, and is easier to clean.

I love me Stokke Tripp Trapp - as does everyone I know who got one. DD1 nearly 5 - still uses hers DD2 also loves hers and when we have people over for dinner, if we run out of chairs, quick adjustment and I have 2 extra chairs! Easy to clean, takes up hardly any space and looks good

yep another vote for the ikea one here - those cushiony expensive ones that all my friends have are a pita to clean and take up loads of room - whats the point hey?

if they buiy one of them you can use the leftover money for a portable one that attaches to chairs like a cushion as well - also very useful...

Ikea Antilop, better than the Babydan (like a TrippTrapp) we originally bought, because can be used with tray or not, legs easily removable so can be taken on holiday etc and easy to clean. They've got a funky red one out at the moment.

I just got the Chicco happy snack and am so far very pleased- we are doing blw and it is very easy to clean and has a nice big tray for ds to slop everything around on. Crotch sticky-uppy thingy means that ds doesn't slide down like dd did in her crappy one. We got ours for £20 in the local woolworths as it was the last one and ex display- wasn't advertised as such but we were cheeky enough to ask and our cheek was rewarded with £35 quid off- can't be bad

Hi, I really recommend the wooden type that later converts into a little table and chair, my 2 yo ds stopped wanting to sit on it a few months ago, so we took it down and now he uses it as a desk type thing to read/draw, excellent value for money, we bought it in Mothercare.

Unlike paow I do not recommend this type, having had to take DD to A&E when she managed to get her leg stuck down the side slats and became wedged

Stick it in the boot along with 2 suitacases a travel cot a pushchair and the kitchen sink.

After all if you hate it (which you won't) you have only spent £15 and you could probably make £14 back on ebay.

They sold an antilop at my local NCT for £8 and there was nearly a fight over it. They do hold their resale value and you can always replace the tray (which i put in the dishwasher) if it gets scuffed up. Dairylea washes off it too and beetroot did not stain it either. (I should beon commission)

Ok, I am being really stupid but I threw away the instructions but how the hell do you get the tray off the antilop once it is on??????? Help!

With brute force.

It pivots around the points where it joins the seat at the back of the arm pieces - but you need brute force to get it off.

Antilop great - avoid like the plague anything padded, reclining or whatever, they are food traps

Thanks DoNotAsfinishedXmasshopping. I don't want to break it! I've actually studied one at a cafe that comes off real easily and the cafe seems to have removed one bit of the tray so it comes off easily...

Yes, I agree. Avoid anything reclining. My DS is a real sloucher. My inlaws got a Graco one and they are forever lifting him up... I am so tempted to just buy them an antilop.

I've got the one that turns into a little table and chair, DS loves it. He hardly used it as a highchair for anytime at all, he much prefers his booster seat.

I've got his little table and chair in the kitchen so that he can "cook" while I prepare food. Great value!

tripp trapp or antilop

Antilop good for starting. Tripp trapp great as a chair for small older toddlers/children.

There is a good reason for that

We had (still have) a Tripp Trapp. Used it with DD from 5 months old. She is now 6.5yo and uses it in chair mode. It is still in excellent condition and has, due to length of time used, been fantastic value for money. It is really easy to keep clean too. And it looks good too - I persoanlly hate the brightly coloured plastic ones.

tripp trapps still going strong in our family too - kids now 7 and 5. we love them. they are the single items i missed most when we spent a year down under when the kids were younger! one kid has a funky red one, the other is plain wood. they are both in chair mode obviously now they're older. but they are expensive, yes, and antilop definitely would get my vote for cheap cheerful and easy to clean - have used them often at other people's and in cafes etc.
