did you give all immunisations?

Am I alone in having decided not to let DS (7.5 months) have the first round of immunisations?
Did anyone decide to do this and then change their minds later on?

i can understand why people dont immunise - i think there probably is a link (no smoke without fire). however, the chances of your child dying of an illness because of not having been imunised is so much higher i felt i had to go ahead. if no one immunised we will be putting our childrens health back 50 years - i personally dont see how that can be a good thing. on the other hand you may be lucky, but weigh up the chances both ways before you make a final decision - one in a million of having a reaction to the jabs or what chance of being seriously ill due to not having them? for everyone who does not immunise the chances of an epidemic are getting higher...

DS1 had everything, DS2 will have everything. No bad reactions.

I did look into things a bit, but as each country has a different set of jabs they're flappy about, I felt this was just a natural reaction to the stress of letting a stranger poke your baby with a big sharp needle.

chicca ds1 had everything up to first measles. then no boosters.

Ds2 and ds3 have had nothing at all (ds1 is severely autistic and we think thimerosil was his first hit).

there are a surprising number of us on mumsnet who haven't vacinated at all.

I was going to give ds2 single tetanus at pre-school age, but its been withdrawn and there's no way he's getting a 5 in 1, so he'll have to avoid rusty nails until he's 10 and can have the single jab.

chicca theres no cut off point for vaccs if you want your child to have them you can start at any time.
jimjams, there isn't any single tetanus available at all now ( not in uk anyway) they are all combined with diptheria and polio.Do other countries still have the single tetanus?

Hi chicca,

My DS had the first two imms of the three initial ones - then developed eczema which came on suddenly after the second dose. Not saying this was definitely the reason and when I searched the literature there was no DEFINITE link but I avoided the third. He did have the MMR but only after I'd read everything I could to reassure myself. Even worse - I'm a health visitor so I should have confidence in all these things. Everyone does their own thing - do what you think is right.

I know laylas. I'm not that bothered as the single tetanus had thimerosal in it anyway so I was kind of dithering about it. This has just made my mind up foor me until he reaches 10 when I'll think about it again. By then I should be a qualified homeopath so I probably won't want to vaccinate at all anyway.

Mine have had all the standard vaccinations plus chickenpox and hepatitis B.

it's in the boosters though beety. There was a cut off for whole cell whooping cough (too many side effects in older children) but all whoooping cough vax these days is acellular anyway.

Will def give all immunisations, think they're really important. I had no problems with DTP Chicco (apart from mild temperature the first time). Jimjams - understand your fear after all you've been through with DS1 but tetanus is easy to contract and so horrific/lethal - aren't you worried? Not having a go at all, just genuinely curious?

not yet. but as dh is more prone to infections everyone is being jabbed in my house. even dh gets regular flu and should get pneumonia jab this year as well.

Both of mine have had everything. Plus TB when they were a day old. Think they are vital.

I forgot I did the BCG (TB) one too, in fact I sought it out at 6 months as my hospital didn't give the neonatal one. Living in London where rates are increasing so didn't want to take any chances

Yes we live near Heathrow with a big assylum place nearby so wanted to make sure they were safe.

Newyeaarmum tetanus isn't that easy to contract- you need a puncture wound and it needs to be dirty. Obviously if any of the ds' (including ds1 as he is out of date now) received a puncture I would ensure it was properly cleaned and they recieved passive antibodies if necessary. I would be careful of splinters and things on farms as well.

There's jkust no way I'm doing anything that could knock either of the other 2 off course. And ds1's immune system is a mess- last thing he needs is more jabs.

so in summary the risk to my boys from the jabs worries me more than the likelihood of them getting tetanus.

Have just taken ds2 this morning for his MMR - always worry for obvious reasons, but try to put it to the back of my mind and get on with doing what I feel is best for him, which is I guess what we all do, whether we decide to vaccinate or not. Ds1 and dd have had everything with no problems, and ds2 had no problems with his early vaccinatons. I found it much more difficult to make the decision the first time for ds1 (7) when I first heard about all the concerns.
