Essie - No need for any special care at all really. In short don't tumble dry on hot for hours on end or pour neat essential oils all over them

Neat essential oils do degrade the PUL, some people think even diluted essential oils do over time. I wouldn't use oils regularly with anything which has PUL in it - that said I think you are fine to occassionally use diluted oils for soaking or a bit in the occassional wash load. To do any serious damage you have to drip the stuff onto your wrap and leave it there for a good while (can't see anyone doing that unless they put drops directly into a dry pail bucket).

Obviously the shell bit doesn't really need tumble drying so it's not really going to be an issue for you. The various manufacturers can't seem to decide on the PUL tumble drying issue at all- some say it will melt the PUL (IME it does not at all) others say tumble on cool is fine then you have others who say the occassional hot tumble does them good and keeps the PUL from leaking. I think the only solution is to read the label and stick to what it says when you can remember to

My motherease wraps and various pocket nappies have probably all been through a hot tumble cycle at some point by mistake and none of them has fallen to pieces yet....

Modern Baby are making a big thing of selling the pop-in in waitrose - I'm still not convinced though...will patiently await my sample and see .

thanks for advice, see what state the velcro's in then when they arrive. oh, milk-vampire's awake, better feed her

Essie3 · 08/10/2008 21:55

Finally an answer on the PUL - I've been musing on this for a long time and keep seeing it mentioned but never thought to ask! Thanks, BBM.
I never tumble dry the wrap bit anyway, because they dry in about half an hour! And I do put an essential oil balm on DS' bum (Cheeky cherub, of course!) but there's a whole fat soaker between the oil and the PUL.

How long do you reckon the pop-ins will last with their PUL? It's been a big investment and I'm thinking in terms of next baby (if there is a next!) as well as the current model!

Sorry, more - they are a good nappy.

Rusmum they're a v. expensive nappy! No, seriously, they're a snap all in one (is that right Daisy?). Soft jersey-style outer bit, with a bamboo inner which poppers in. Also an extra slimline booster, and a big night time booster which is being used with great success by people on here! The link to their page is at the top here, but a better page is babipur where you can see a diagram of how they work. Go here and click to enlarge the labelled diagram (bottom left).

Big moment: my DS is no longer wearing them as for a tiny baby, but is onto the smallest setting without folding over. and

BigBadMousey · 08/10/2008 22:01

Essie - they'll probably be fine for many babies . I've had third hand fuzzis that still worked perfectly well. The only PUL related problem I have ever had was when it started to come away from the cotton outer on my beloved GAD = big leaks. I still try to use it every now because I can't bear to be parted with it .

Sunflower - I have a 'Milk Raptor'

OP posts:
lollipopmother · 08/10/2008 22:17

I have a milk monster here!

lollipopmother · 08/10/2008 22:24

I have an Ella's House bumhugger that I think I'll try as it seems to fit, should I boost it? I want it to last about 4 hours and I have a feeling Elizabeth is quite a heavy wetter, if a 3 week old can actually be a heavy wetter!

I have a couple of things that look a bit like flannels, are these liners or boosters? They didn't come with the bumhugger, no idea where they came from actually!

LackaDAISYcal · 08/10/2008 22:30

bumhugger should last four hours without boosting lollipop. I think the wrap will give up the ghost before the nappy tbh!

lol at your milk monster

babyjjbaby · 08/10/2008 22:31

i want a bumhugger

LackaDAISYcal · 08/10/2008 22:34

just noticed we have milk vampires and raptors too

A friend of mine is looking for some not too pricey fleece pocket nappies (like minky or wee notions I think). Does anyone know where to get them reasonably priced?

AnnVan · 08/10/2008 23:21

Hi all. Need some advice here. Seb seems to be a very heavy wetter, he wee's right through his bamboo nappies so they certainly won't be any good as he gets bigger. Any suggestions for agood really absorbant nappy? Also what would be good for anight nappy? he soaks his fluffles - still love them though Think I'll have to sell off the bamboo nappies and get something else.

LackaDAISYcal · 09/10/2008 00:03

flexitots are very thirsty annvan; I've used them overnight and there were still dry bits to the nappy in the morning.

As are bumhuggers and baby beehinds which are bamboo/hemp fleece rather than terry. baby beehinds have additional popper in boosters and are pretty infallible ime.

My friend uses them and says everything else falls short by comparison.

Essie3 · 09/10/2008 09:32

AnnVan guess what I'm going to suggest...try the pop-in?!
How are the bamboo ones - I found my pop-ins needed washing 4 times or so to get to top absorbency. Is that the issue?

Pop-In Discount - babipur.co.uk is offering 10% off everything - they stock the pop-ins, also Bambinex; they have washable wipes, organic creams, organic clothes etc... the discount code is F200.

sunflower78 · 09/10/2008 09:48

essie - I was just waiting for your answer

rusmum · 09/10/2008 09:57

so pop ins are the best thing ever??????

rusmum · 09/10/2008 09:59

essie how much??? suppose b to p though. how many you got!!!! how many would you need??????

ilovemydog · 09/10/2008 10:27

Ann Van - flexitots are a good night nappy, but aren't very slim fitting and tend to bunch at the crotch. But, they are fairly night proof. DS who gives Niagra Falls competition, didn't leak with Flexitot.

Bum Genius all in one (not the one size) was also night proof. Lollipop Bamboo with lots of boosting also lasted.

Essie3 · 09/10/2008 10:57

LOL Sunflower, indeed, I'm so predictable. Might just change my name to pop-in princess or something!
Rusmum they're £15 each, but babipur do 5 for £60 on e-bay, or there are 2 value packs (babipur or straight from modern baby): 10 for £123, 20 for £229.50.
Expensive, but they are birth to potty and I will be using them for every baby I have and even others in my family! That's my justification anyway!
How many would you need? Well, not as many as I have... Depends, really. If you're using them exclusively, then 20 is great. They take ages to dry. I find we're 5 nappies per day here, and I don't wash every day.**nappies. I wash myself at least once a day!

rusmum · 09/10/2008 11:19

I should hope so too!! lol

Sorry about moderns... you ok??

My sister still not paid me!!

am gutted. if they dont sell let me know, i may buy couple.

rusmum · 09/10/2008 11:20

baby nappies arrived, will they soften?? Could I dye them??

yours there?? got rid of litle ewes??

Essie3 · 09/10/2008 11:44

Hi Rusmum yes, all fine, don't worry! I haven't emptied my inbox yet but was going to do that today - I have 50 e-mails in there but I spend more time on mumsnet . It would only have been a short-term saving for you because they're size 1 and I didn't have size 2.
The nappies are currently on long-term loan to a 'friend' (she's a bit mean to me, long story, but desperately poor) but I'm annoyed because she hasn't thanked me. Silly, I know, but 23 nappies and wraps save a fortune - hundreds in sposies, or buying washables. But don't get me started on her and her ways...

lollipopmother · 09/10/2008 11:56

Guys, I have started two new threads ? one is a question about Bumhuggers and the others is a wanted request for XS Sandy?s/wraps. If you can help me please pop in, ta!
