so, another mumsnetter & i were in the park today, our small dds stripped off...

.... as they are wont to do & it was hot & we are wishy washy liberals. they were prancing around having a lovely time when this total nutter (mother with 2 small kids in fact) came along & started really yelling at us that we were dreadful for letting them be naked. she was properly ranting, about paedophiles & social services & how we were totally disgraceful & was extremely aggresive. we were kind of stunned but basically ignored her & she left.

and then she came back. about 10 minutes later. and started right back in where she'd stopped and the rang the police to report us .

the girls were actually quite frightened by this point (poor dd said on my knee & whispered that she didn't want the police to take her away ). we left asap, but it was really horrid. i cried. this is our local park, & i so don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time. she was scary. lovely versdesociete looked after me, & we scarfed many carbs & coffee & cake & all felt much better but i was really shaky afterwards. arrrrgh (and the day has continued to be eventful as ds found strangers running through the garden & there was a terrifying/thrilling police chase with helicopters. i was in asda, don't think i could have taken the excitement....).

What a horrible woman. I think (although I DO KNOW how hard it is to be rational at the time, I've had mad people screaming at me and you are just sort of stunned aren't you?) you should have said "I'd like to take your name and address and report you please unless you go away and stop haranguing me"

Assuming your girls are tiddlers, shame you had your day out spoiled. IF they are however aged 13 or so .... she may have had a point.

Mine wouldn't be allowed to be naked anywhere public but what was her reason for phoning the police????

Mine wouldnt be allowed naked at all, there was a guy caught near here (on a public beach) innocently using his camcorder to film the birds and dogs etc
Except he had some sort of lens on his camera that meant he could appear to be filming straight ahead but was almost at a right ankle. CLose ups of genitals etc. Thats why I wouldnty

HOWEVER, her behaviour is insane!! I wouldnt presume to approach someone, if they ASKED me I would say nope, undies/knickers fine - but nowt less.

But...would still point out this kind of abuse is still far more likely to occur in the 'safety' of homes by people known to children rather than strangers.

hi hxchic, poor, poor you - though I have to say that much as I love that park, it's not short of its share of nutters. Last year, same place, woman with one of those scary pit bull beasts let it run over to DS and slobber round him. He was freaked, so ran to me - dog followed, owner not taking a blind bit of notice, so I had to pick him up, then asked her very nicely if she'd move her dog on as my son was scared - she then had a right old go at me, as apparently I was a neurotic mother making my son terrified of animals, her dog had as much right to be in the park as my child, how dare I say that she couldn't walk her dog, etc, etc. I mean ffs.. May I suggest a large medicinal drink of wine. Am sure you'll never see her again.

hello smee, your ds must be pretty big now, at school even? yes, there are certainly enough nutters in l. fields, that dog sounds horrid. i am just back from a 10 hour party, feeling a little more chilled now .

Now there is a slightly different issue of naked toddlers in the wading pool: basically they ought to be wearing nappies if they are not trained so other toddlers are not paddling in wee. Or worse. But people who get hung up about nudity in children are actually the dangerous ones on the whole. They will teach children awful dysfunctional attitudes towards their bodies and towards sexuality as well.

I dont think our society is any sicker than it has ever been, we are just more aware of the 'perverts' a good thing if you ask me.

However hers was an irrational reaction to a perfectly ok situation. Don't let it undermine your fun!

i wouldn't let my dc strip off in a park - especially a (i'm assuming) busy London one. I am alarmed when I see others doing it too tbh and I think the waving the bottoms in the air thing I wouldn't have allowed BUT the woman does sound like a complete nutter and ringing the police is odd

mind you a bunch of 5yo's were making loud, pointy-squealy fun of my ds and his little mate the other day because they were (gasp) barefoot. In the park!!!!

This sort of thing really depresses me. It's the same school of thought that women shouldn't wear short skirts or they are asking to be raped. Toddlers shouldn't run about naked or they will be abducted by paedos, fgs, what a load of rubbish.

I wish I could think of a suitably withering put-down for your mad woman.

I wouldn't let my dc's go naked in public. I wouldn't feel comfortable with people staring at them.

Wouldn't comment on other kids either if i seen then, just think it was odd.
