.... as they are wont to do & it was hot & we are wishy washy liberals. they were prancing around having a lovely time when this total nutter (mother with 2 small kids in fact) came along & started really yelling at us that we were dreadful for letting them be naked. she was properly ranting, about paedophiles & social services & how we were totally disgraceful & was extremely aggresive. we were kind of stunned but basically ignored her & she left.

and then she came back. about 10 minutes later. and started right back in where she'd stopped and the rang the police to report us .

the girls were actually quite frightened by this point (poor dd said on my knee & whispered that she didn't want the police to take her away ). we left asap, but it was really horrid. i cried. this is our local park, & i so don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time. she was scary. lovely versdesociete looked after me, & we scarfed many carbs & coffee & cake & all felt much better but i was really shaky afterwards. arrrrgh (and the day has continued to be eventful as ds found strangers running through the garden & there was a terrifying/thrilling police chase with helicopters. i was in asda, don't think i could have taken the excitement....).

sigh, the joy of london parks....

Sad. I've seen council employees telling mums to put nappies back on babies running naked in fountains etc in our London park.

It's easy to say the woman is a loon and certainly her manner was that of a lunatic. BUT, she's just the product of a very sick society. I know I would no longer feel comfortable letting a small child run around naked in a public park, because of this mad climate of hysteria. I'd avoid the aggro and make them keep on pants/nappies.

VersdeSociete · 27/09/2008 08:13

It's funny, janni, I was sort of subliminally having those thoughts about somebody saying or doing something before the nuttermum turned up but the children were so happy in the sun I repressed them.
I am going to confess all on 10-years-younger re the carbs, erm, after I have made the children their pancakes....
Am still so shaken, am half convinced nuttermum is going to turn uop here and start berating us in textspeak...

VersdeSociete · 27/09/2008 08:15

Oh marina, thsoe diddy motorbikes are hell.

Flossish · 27/09/2008 08:36

a few weeks ago we went past a swimming poo where a girl was doing hand stands behind a bush with mother sat next to her. Mother says 'DD stop doing those now - you've only go knickers on underneath.'

I was quite shocked as I didn't realise that tights/ gym knickers were a necessary requirement to handstands these days.

Hoxtonchick - she was a veritable nutter who probably got taken away by the police to either section or at the very least wasting police time!

Habbibu · 27/09/2008 09:34

Can you imagine the poor police controller - "I'm sorry, madam, did you say a naked child! Good heavens! well, we had a unti despatched to an armed robbery, but given the circumstances I think we should probably send them straight to the park. Now, don't approach them - they may be dangerous (or not toilet-trained)". Loon loon loon.

Habbibu · 27/09/2008 09:36

Happy to report that on the beach one day here in fife this summer practically every child was naked, aged about 18mo-9 - everyone smiling, no funny looks, no dodgy strangers.

JuneBugJen · 27/09/2008 09:39

A swimming poo?

Anyhow. The woman is a FREEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAK!! I'm sorry but a naked child is not an offense for the police to deal with. I have let mine go in the local paddling pool naked if I haven't got a bathing suit. Yes, there may be paedophiles about, but by the same tokens I'm sure they are heavy breathing over Mothercare catalogues as well.
It seems sad that a naked child could be a matter for police. Total foolish hysteria.

SoupDragon · 27/09/2008 09:41

Personally I wouldn't let the SmallDragons go naked in a park, I'd insist they kept pants on. I wouldn't feel the need to go and harangue anyone about it.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/09/2008 09:49

Sorry you had such an awful day hoxty

DS likes to strip off.

So does DD for that matter. We've NEVER felt the need to tell them to cover up, or instilled 'modesty' rules. They are only 5 and 3.

I feel sad for this woman. It makes me wonder what has happened to her.

VersdeSociete · 27/09/2008 09:58

Actually Soupdragon, I too would probably usually try and keep their clothes on - but it was such a happy folie a deux on a rare sunny day with almost no one around (bar nuttermum)....

yes, i'm very glad we were together, it would have been much worse alone. dd had no knickers as had previously wee-d on them . and i am too slack to carry spares.

id have the rang the police on her! stoopid woman! my dd is naked more often that she is not!

VersdeSociete · 27/09/2008 11:14

Hey, hc, do you think the police helicopters were actually trying to track down you and naked dd?
Mehehheheh

Notquitegrownup · 27/09/2008 11:20

Just sending some sympathy for you and your dd. How horrid for you.

It might be worth taking your dd into your local police station and letting them reassure her that it isn't a crime to be naked in the park, when you are 3!

Nemoandthefishes · 27/09/2008 11:28

I wouldnt let the trio go naked in the park however wouldnt be put out if someone else chose to do it. The trio are often naked in the garden which is fine but do sometimes feel uncomfortable that the young lad behind[around 16] comes and stands to watch them play sometimes... but thats my issue not the trios as he does it whether they are dressed or not..lol

pudding25 · 27/09/2008 13:34

Horrid bottom-featured old boot of a woman

belgo · 27/09/2008 14:10

Plenty of children strip off on the beach - I did that as a child. I would probably try and keep underpants on my children though in a park.

But what a strange woman to phone the police about it!
