Do most SAHM mums have a "skill"?

I'm not a SAHM - I work part-time, but most SAHMs I know are good at something. By that I mean making clothes, knitting, DIY, crafty stuff - something of that ilk. Just thinking, if I was ever to be a SAHM - which I am thinking about more and more- I don't really do any of this type of stuff.

I'm not very good at that fio but I can make a mean pavlova!!!!

I really never imagined I would one day be so skilled at stain removal. Or choosing electrical appliances.

no i could always cook but never bake as i was never very keen on cakes etc but i make lovely cakes now when i dont get distracted while they are cooking that is.

I'm sure you realise, somewhere deep down in your granite heart that you don't actually have to be a cupcake-wielding bunting-o-phile to be a SAHM.

But anyway here goes. I'm Mrs Crafty myself - I make clothes, do all the DIY, I love quilting, I make my own jewellery too. I lurve to bake. I also work part-time and am very career-minded, love work and would really not want to be full-time SAHM. So no parallel so far.

I like playing with toys with my toddler and baby. I don't think I have any proper skills, I am a crap cook but everything else in the house is OK!

I'm shit at all those things.. I think I'm ok at looking after dd though - and the house isn't a total shithole all of the time

Twiglett, I am now taking more of an interest in drawing now I have a DS. Not sure I can do it though.
Thing is, some SAHM mums I know make the children's clothes, curtains etc... I would just feel a little inadequate for not being ablke to 'contribute' in this way. Daft maybe; I don;t know.

I agree with cappucino's post 100%. I had no more idea how to keep a house running smoothly than dh when we first got together (in fact he was a better cook than me and cooked all the meals back then). However once he got that ring on my finger he decided he no longer needed to impress me

I am pretty good at most creative stuff - although I am turning it more into a career rathr than a sahm hobby/skill.

I am a great mum but I tend not to make stuff. My husband is a better cook than me. I don't do polly pocket and paint your own tea sets.I don't knit - how can one knit and hold a wine glass ? I wear fuck off heels and I like shopping and reading and music. And if there is decent sport on the tv then the kids can go and play until it is over.

Oh .... was just composing a post in my head but pagwatch has said more or less what I wanted to.

i find i have no time for crafty things, most spare time is spent fixing the car, fixing the house, driving elderly relatives about, gardening, plumbing - all the exciting fun projects.

I can't do anything useful whatsoever.

But my internet shopping skills have greatly improved since I became a SAHM.

Fixing the car, I would call a 'skill' Southeast. I don;t know anything about the car - except what colour it is and how to drive it. Mind you, Dh would probably disagree with that!!
