Do most SAHM mums have a "skill"?

I'm not a SAHM - I work part-time, but most SAHMs I know are good at something. By that I mean making clothes, knitting, DIY, crafty stuff - something of that ilk. Just thinking, if I was ever to be a SAHM - which I am thinking about more and more- I don't really do any of this type of stuff.

No skills at all. All pre-children skills have vanished.

My skill is spending time on mumsnet. I got a computer science degree to enable me to do this to the best of my ability

Seriously, I think being at home inspires you to try new things that you can do without leaving the house! I've recently starting sewing stuff (made a ring sling and a sling bag for myself and about to make a mini sling for 5yo niece)

Very skilled in moaning at dh about how much more freedom he gets than me. I am brilliant at that.

I am good at cooking but I was good at that before DS. I am as rubbish at crafty things as I ever was, I expect, only I am too busy cleaning the house, shopping, changing nappies, entertaining DS and MNetting to find out (though we did make handprints today just so I could strap DS into high chair so he would stop hitting me for 5 minutes).

I'm a SAHM some of the time (holidays) and a student mum in term time. Its a bit weird now cos all kids are in school so there are a few weeks when I am sahm with no kids in teh house! But start of October then its running to stand still to keep things ticking over in my term time.

Like everyone else here I am a skilled MNetter. I can offend people on any thread!

I knit, sew a bit, cook (don't bake) and at the moment am doin gloads of baking filling up the freezer with nice homecooked food to defrost when I am back at college.

I am very friendly and I do spend quite a bit of time with other people - tomorrow am going to see friend with 3 week old unsleeping baby to take him out in his pram for an hour while mum gets a bath etc ... I take my old next door neighbour shopping ... I meet up with 2 different friends struggling with depression ... I am immensely skilled in drinking coffee and eating cakes and seem to be the sort of person that people unload on to, so I use that skill!

I suppose the most mum rather than housewife skill I have is I am pretty crafty (not sly and underhand, rather good at making things). So when kids are around I do arty things with them - dd2 recently painted a large canvas for her Grandpa's birthday, we make all our own cards, build robots out of junk, etc etc.

And gardening. We have grown awesome peas and pumpkins this year!

And I'm with Fio on the F* skill. Esp on dh's day off when the kids are at school!
