My DD has got the most beautiful curls. But what on earth am I meant to do to tame them?

Her hair has never been cut and she is 22mo. It has just got to the stage that its almost going in her eyes at the front and if I don't part it it does go in them. She will occasionally tolerate a clip but it is getting wilder and wilder, it sort of grows upwards and outwards not down! It is gorgeous but should I be conditioning it? Parting it? Getting a fringe cut? Wasn't sure which topic to go on but it didn't really feel like style and beauty!

i have no idea. dd's is the same, really thick ringlets. i do condition it because it helps to keep a lid on the tangles. and i recommend a brush called the tangle teezer, very good.

ooh yes, tangle teezer from a website called look fantastic, bought mine and arrived this week and it's like magic! Also, I buy leave-in conditioner as this really helps with the combing when wet and also stops too much frizz when dry.

i have found the perfect method!

wash at night with conditioning shampoo, followed by rich conditioner, brush through once when wet, and leave.

in the morning , spray with leave in conditioner and water,brush through once and then leave

can run a bit of boots curl creme through it when it is wet too

DDs parts naturally to the side, and i use a clip or hairband to keep it out of her eyes. she also looks sweet with it in a ponytail, all pulled back from her face

once a month i slather her hair in coconut oil and then wash and condition it

boots coconut and almond shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner are excellent, they also sell the curl creme and coconut oil!

it is good, isn't it? i have a feeling that they modelled it on dog brushes, though.

Have just ordered a Tangle Teezer. MN makes me spend far too much money!

Tangle teaser right I will try to get that thank you. I should mabe be conditioning it too then. Is there a spray one I can use does anyone use? She suffers from excema and psoriasis so I don't want to get anything harsh on her skin.

Lulumama your dd's hair is very similar to my dd's was a few months ago, she is gorgeous btw! And my dd has the flowery coat actually. So I need conditioner and a tangle teezer. Where should I part it? On the side is where I use to do it but it doesn't seem to have a natural parting now and jsut looks mad wherever I part it.

My dd had this sort of hair, growing upwards in no particular direction. She is now 10 and since Monday she hasnt had it touched. I plaited it in little plaits and its been FANTASTIC not having to brush it.

I use 'Aussie miracle hair insurance' on my ds's flowing golden curls

Gets rid of the 'bed head look' and is conditioning too.

He also has ecxema, and we've never had a reaction.

i don't part dd's hair, i just comb it backwards when wet and when it dries there's generally one big ringlet at the front that sticks up and out from her forehead. i boing it.

watsthestory its not really long enough to plait yet but will try that when she's older. I've strted doing bath and hairwash in the morning because it went scruffy over night too then if I re brush it it goes frizzy. I'll get the cocnut and almond one then lulumama, thanks.

thank you used2bethin! her hair is longer now, and in more defined ringlets. i trimmed a bit off the back, as it was getting a bit tatty from being slept on, and that seemed to help too

i just spray it with water to brush it, btw. don't want to use a leave in product on such a young child.

Lol ExterminAitch DD's dad always brushes it back actually and I used to moan but I think it does look better than the dodgy parting I've been giving her! WTWTW I've got the Aussie hair stuff so maybe I should try it on her.

give it a shot. i use my phytologie conditioner on dd, did buy a cheaper one (for nit combing, omg that's not good with curls) and really noticed the difference both with her hair and the ability to get the comb through it.

My 14 mth ds has v curly hair, like mine! I am fed up with everyone saying "when are you going to get it cut" - he hardly looks like a girl! With my hair, when wet I brush it, then wind the curls round my finger to "shape" them then leave to dry, they are more manageable then and my hair less frizzy.

Oh no nit cobing I've got all this to come! Lulumama dd's is getting long now too don't think I can bear to cut it though she had none till she was nearly one. It is now down to her shoulders when wet but much much shorter when dry with the curls. Ah it is lovely! I will try conditioner and try and get one of those combs too.

Tahnks sazzerbear I think taht is possibly the trick with curls, to jsut brush/comb when wet. I had curly hair as a child but now its just annoyingly wavy. I straighten it so am very out of touch with how to encourage them.

I only ever brush mine when it's wet as I look like "hair bear" if I brush it when dry! When I little, it was ponytail/bunches/grips/middle parting all the way!

I was just thinking about DD1's hair, she's a bit older now but has long curly hair that looks amazing when washed, combed and left but you guessed it next morning it is horrendous. I am so fed up with the constant morning hair battles. I use the Johnsons detangler my only Johnsons product but I think it makes their hair very greasy looking. DD2 has poked straight hair but sweats so much at night she gets up with a ball of fuzz at the back of her head.

So are these tangle tamers worth the money then? Also which leave in conditioner to get, the Boots one, coconut and almond?

usedtobethin- I don't think fringes really go with curly hair IYSWIM, I trained DD1's hair to grow back with a little elastic bobble thingcould you try that, I think once they are in they kind of forget about them

Sweetkitty you are right about the fringe thing I am sure. I think I need to just put in a clip every day until she stops pulling them out. And hope she doesn't eat it lol!
