ds is just turned five and slowly changing to mum [sniffle].

MrsTittleMouse · 17/07/2008 11:08

My aunt still mourns the fact that her boys call her "mum" now and not "mummy" and they are all in their thirties!
I'm sure I'll be just as bad when my DDs call me "mum" though.

mumblechum · 17/07/2008 11:09

I can't get ds to call me mum. I was mummy tillhe was about 10, now I'm Mumbles or just 'Bls.

Divvy · 17/07/2008 11:10

If my 19 and 16 year old call me mum, I just give them a look and they add -me on the end!

Of course if they are wanting something its always mummy

i'm still mummy here - oldest is approaching 9 and shows no sign of changing...

Lazycow · 17/07/2008 11:15

Ds is only 3.5 and strted this when he went to nursery at 3 . He still calls me mummy when he is upset or unhappy but about 50% of the time it is mum !

ChopsTheDuck · 17/07/2008 11:28

oldest didnt start calliny me mum until she was about 6, then the others just picked it up from her. My dts used to call me Mama cos they couldn't manage 'y's on the end of words, and I loved that.

MamaG · 17/07/2008 11:31

My DD is 9 and its about 50/50. I used to tell her I didn't like beign calle dMum but she said saying mummy made her feel lik ea baby, so I said it was ok

Half and half as I say

DS age 4 still calls me mummy but he's starting school in september (sob) so it won't last.

ShrinkingViolet · 17/07/2008 11:33

DD1 (at nearly 15) still calls me Mummy - admitttedly it's usually a Mumeeeeeeee, can I have..... but it's still Mummy.

streakybacon · 17/07/2008 11:48

I've never been Mummy (or Mammy as it would be round here). Always Mam, from the first time he said it.

mumblechum · 17/07/2008 12:12

Where are you Streaky? Is that a Lancashire thing?

IHadABetterNameButYouStoleIt · 17/07/2008 12:13

mine calls me mam now at four years! although she also calls me aunty x and nana sometimes too!!!!

streakybacon · 17/07/2008 13:33

Gateshead.

Actually, he did have a brief spell of calling me Mum when he started reading - all the mums in the books were called Mum so he tested it out for a while then went back to Mam. I prefer Mam .

Pheebe · 17/07/2008 17:53

be grateful, i have a friend who still calls ner mum mummy (we're nearly 40 ) worse still, her dad refers to his wife as mummy when talking to my friend about her

Ewe · 17/07/2008 17:57

Never if you're like my XP - calls her Mummy at the grand old age of 28.

OverMyDeadBody · 17/07/2008 18:02

DS prefered mum from about 3 but now refers to me by my name to ther people , but still calls me mum!

My sister is 24 and still calls my parents mummy and daddy

Takver · 17/07/2008 18:42

Never been Mummy, originally called me Mum, now usually calls me by my name. For some reason she has always called DH by his name, never Dad, I always wonder if people think he isn't really her father . . .

squeaver · 17/07/2008 18:43

About 3.6 in our house, it seems...

ByTheSea · 17/07/2008 18:45

I'm still waiting (and so is DH for Dad instead of Daddy)...

DS1 is 12, DS2 is 11, DD1 is 9 and DD2 is 6.

HumphreyCushioni · 17/07/2008 18:48

50% of the time I'm Mum.
40% I'm Mummy.
10% I'm Mummy Gorgeous (usually when they want something, have broken something, have broken their brother, or have some good snitching info to divulge)

Children are 12 and 10.

unfitmother · 17/07/2008 18:51

When they start school.

willali · 17/07/2008 19:24

DS (10) = Mummy when something required

Mum all other times

EXCEPT DD (7) has always called me Mama (as in Mummer NOT maMAaarr) IYSWIM!!)- don't know where that came from!!
