DD is 6y and calls me mummy and DH daddy. Hope it won't stop too soon.

AbbeyA · 17/07/2008 20:19

At junior school age.

DiscoDizzy · 17/07/2008 20:21

I'm 40/60 mum/mummy. DH is 10/90 daddy/dad and has been for ages. DD's are 5 and 3.

everlong you would wince then if you heard my DH, who still (age 38) calls his mother 'mummy' (because she insists, rather than his choice!)
Personally I don't like it ever, prefer mama or mum, but that's just me (maybe subconciously influenced by oddity of MiL in this respect?)

DS2 (3.8) has started calling me 'mama'. I love it! I have no idea where it came from, though.

frankiesbestfriend · 17/07/2008 20:51

Dd is almost entirely calling dh dad now, but I have told her I prefer Mummy so that's what she (mainly) calls me.

Dh doesn't mind dad, I want to be Mummy as long as possible (she is 7 btw).

Takver · 17/07/2008 21:05

Even when DD is 38?

Hulababy · 17/07/2008 21:06

A work friend of mine is still called mummy (and her DH daddy) by their two girls, aged 14 and 17. TBH, when I first heard it is soubnnded a bit odd/unusual, but now seems very normal to hear them say it.

MmeBovary · 17/07/2008 21:08

I became mum at about 3 (sob) though I'm still mummy in a calamity. As in Muuuummmmy....

Takver · 17/07/2008 21:09

To be fair to DH and family, he has very much younger siblings and foster siblings, so there are still young children in the family - I guess that is why it sticks. And you do get used to it.

frankiesbestfriend · 17/07/2008 21:10

Yep, even at 38 Takver

MmeBovary · 17/07/2008 21:10

Actually it was strange because her school fiends all speak french hence mama and papa. We couldn't work out how we almost overnight turned into mum and dad instead of mummy and daddy...Is it inbuilt?

runnervt · 17/07/2008 21:20

We're mum and dad about half the time now and DS is only 2! Don't know where he's got it from as I think they talk about mummy and daddy at nursery.

Martha200 · 18/07/2008 10:03

ds1 (5) calls me mummy but when around his friends I am Mum
