My ds1 is three and a half, and there has only been about three nights that I havnt been in to his room, before I go to bed, to kiss him and check hes ok.
Will I still be doing it when hes a strapping teenager??

Yes. I still kiss ds (12) goodnight (and remove ipod and book at the same time, and the torch he uses to read under the bedclothes too!). He sometimes tells me things then that are bothering him and that he didn't mention earlier in the day, so it's good.

castille · 04/07/2008 12:09

I still check on my 10.5 and 8.5yos before I go to bed, but now their sleep is lighter I sometimes wake them up

NomDePlume · 04/07/2008 12:10

DS1 is 16 and DS2 is 14.5. We stopped the kiss goodnight thing when they were about 11 or 12. We were led by them really. Now we just pop our heads around the door and say goodnight

When we go to stay with my mum, the last person to go to bed always kisses the others goodnight. - I'm 40 and given that it was a tradition that we had with gps cannot see it ending ever

FruitfulOfFruit · 04/07/2008 12:11

I'm guessing that you stop when they tell you to?

FruitfulOfFruit · 04/07/2008 12:11

As in, you're going to bed before they do ...

OrmIrian · 04/07/2008 12:11

Yes you will. If he lets you. Well I will.

MarsLady · 04/07/2008 12:12

I kiss all of mine including DS1(15.5). I have no intention of ever stopping (apart from when they move out/away).

I didn't carry them for 9+ months not to get a goodnight kiss!

cheesesarnie · 04/07/2008 12:12

aww.i cant imagine not doing kisses goodnight!

Kimi · 04/07/2008 12:13

Will do so till they move out

flubdub · 04/07/2008 12:29

ok, will carry on indefinately then
Aslong as he doesnt do what I used to do; my lucky number was 17, so always had to give my mum 17 kisses when she put me in bed!

ermm once my DC are in bed I don't go into them.

They have a kiss before THEY go to bed - but when I go to bed it's straight past their room and into my bed for me.....and always has been

Twiglett · 04/07/2008 12:32

you're supposed to kiss them goodnight after you've already put them to bed and kissed them? Why did nobody tell me this?

oggsfrog · 04/07/2008 12:35

I always pop into dd's (she's 8 now) room on my way to bed.
I don't kiss her though as that would wake her up. I usually have to pull her covers up.

Seona1973 · 04/07/2008 12:37

I also dont kiss the kids (4 and 1 1/2) when I am on the way to bed - what if I woke them up??!! We creep past as quietly as possible - no way would I open the door if I didnt have to.

I occasionally remove the small library and stack of toys from their beds and manhandle them back under covers .. that must count for something surely?

AMumInScotland · 04/07/2008 12:39

I don't think I ever went to kiss DS goodnight once he'd settled! I used to tiptoe up to the door and look/listen to make sure he was sleeping ok when he was tiny, but he was always a light sleeper so no way I'd have risked waking him.

iamdingdong · 04/07/2008 12:48

oh I think I'll be doing it for years DH always laughs at me if I forget and then have to get up and go and give them a kiss in the middle of the night

SorenLorensen · 04/07/2008 12:54

I don't kiss them when I go to bed - I might wake the buggers up - though I do always go in and gaze adoringly at them for a moment or two. They have a kiss when I tuck them in though and I'll do that for as long as I'm allowed.

flubdub · 04/07/2008 13:13

Do I take it one step further then?
I always kiss him four tmes, and just before each kiss, I say the same thing every night.
i.e
Night night sweetheart
love you baby
sweet dreams precious
sleep well baba

oh god, thats GROSS!! It makes me want to puke
I think its more of an OCD thing than anything, as I cant sleep knowing I havnt said it.
Jeez, let the laughing commence!

flubdub - I can't laugh as I have my own routine. I used to be able to lean into his cot and kiss him, now the base is as low as it'll go I actually have to swing over the bar upside down to kiss him!
