When have your children embarrassed you in public?

What are the times when you wish you could disappear when your kids have said or done something in public.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

On the toilet in Ikea. My 5 year old son loudly asked if I was doing a poo 🙈

Why is that embarrassing? Or were you embarrassed that they were shouting?

CleanSkin · Yesterday 13:37

Never.
I, however, have apparently embarrassed them many times.

Rocknrollstar · Yesterday 15:02

Never. they knew my ‘look’ that meant keep quiet. They also knew what it meant if I squeezed their hand. I had almost telepathic control and for a while they actually believed that I had eyes in the back of my head. Now they are adults I think I embarrass them frequently.

On running off in Tescos. I think she was 2, going on 3. I had to chase after her with a trolley and her baby brother, at which point she started yelling “ YOU’RE NOT MY MUMMY” on repeat. She laughed when I caught her… 😂 That one stands out, yeah.

I think my child publicly embarrasses me everytime we go anywhere with members of the public. He’s ADHD & an oversharer at the best of times 😫 honestly cannot pinpoint a single incident

Getting a tsmpax out of my bag at the bus stop, waving it around shouting what’s this!

Mine actually DID a wee/poo in B&Q, in the display bathroom. Shouted "DADDY NO TISSUE" for ages. I was never so pleased to be the least favourite parent that day.

Because everyone knew what we were doing

My 3 year old recently said in her naturally very loud voice “Mummy, have you got your period then?” As I queued in the chemist with sanitary towels.

I’ve tried to be open with her as she follows me around like she’s attached to me still and asked what I was putting in my knickers, I said it’s a sanitary pad for when I have my period.

The other day, she called her Dad in to wipe her bum and said “don’t worry Dad, I haven’t got my period” he was in stitches 😂

cariadlet · Yesterday 16:37

Mine is similar to @elm26

I was in the town centre with dd, who was a toddler at the time, when my period started unexpectedly. I didn't have anything with me so - without explaining why - I told my dd that we needed to go home.

In a very loud voice, she asked, "Why mummy? Have you got your bleeding?"

MildlyAnnoyed · Yesterday 16:40

My DD was about 5 at the time. We were in Tesco by the toiletries & she pointed & shouted ‘peg leg’, I thought, at a man with an artificial leg who was walking past. Turns out she was excited about spotting the pirate bottle of Matey bubble bath.

I embarrassed my own mum many years ago when I was about 5. We were catching the bus into town and I started to talk to the nice lady in the next seat. I was a chatty kid. I started to tell her about my mum's recent tummy upset and how she'd had a bucket in the bedroom for sick and then didn't make it to the toilet and got runny poo on the carpet. I described it all in graphic detail whilst my mother hid behind a newspaper. Bet the "nice lady" didn't fancy her lunch after that either.

This is just a meme I found, thought it was in-keeping with this thread

We were checking into a hotel when he was four, and he greeted the receptionist and did the down low, too slow to her. He'd never done that to anyone and I was horrified at the rudeness- but of course he didn't know then that it was rude. I wanted to melt into the floor but she was really good about it!

shellyleppard · Yesterday 16:54

Took my toddler into the toilet cubicle with me. Halfway through changing my sanitary towel he opened the door and yelled" mummy has cut herself,!! " 😂😂😂 I could have died of embarrassment

At my sister's bonfire night party. Loads of people there including her very stuck up in laws. My 4 year old son watched all the rockets exploding and shouts out " you wouldn't want one of those up your arse would you '. I just pretended I hadn't heard him

Judellie · Yesterday 17:05

DH took the two of them to Carlisle on the train one day when I was working. DD shouted, 'Daddy, there's a cow on top of another cow. What's it doing?'

user293948849167 · Yesterday 17:07

My eldest was about 3 and said very loudly “look over there mummy, a fat lady pushing another fat lady in a wheelchair” 😬

Surroundedbyfools · Yesterday 17:10

Most of these are not really embarrassing! Just kids being kids ! My tolerance for embarrassment is currently at an all time high with 2 and 4 year old boys lol

Floppyearedlab · Yesterday 17:10

The vicar at our church is one if my best friends and DD also goes to her Sunday school so she knows her well. She goes into her school to do assemblies. She once went up to her and shouted in a loud voice hello Revd X, Mummy says you like wine!

Sat in the dentist waiting room “why does that man have dirty clothes”

When oldest DC was about 3, we were on the London Underground and there was a moment just before the doors closed when everything was very quiet for just a few seconds, DC, in the most innocent voice pipes up out of nowhere 'Mummy, "shit" isn't a very nice word'. TBF, everyone around us cracks up laughing and I did too and told them they really had picked their moment.

I also joke about my most middle-class moment of shame ever when DS was also about 3 and suddenly pressed the escalator Stop button in John Lewis as we were getting on. Fortunately I think no one else was on it at the time at least so we weren't looking at a potential incident.
