Picture the scene; Very family orientated middle class borough of London....
we were sitting having dinner with our DS when a very middle class looking couple walked into the restaurant with a baby of about 1 year. Not long after the baby bumped his arm and started screaming, so the dad picks him up and with that a glass went flying off their table onto the floor and breaks. The mother stood up in a busy restaurant and in a very loud voice said 'F,,,,,g Hell I can't do this anymore!' She storms out of the restuarant with the dad left holding a screaming baby. All of the other customers couldn't belive what they had just heard - 2 minutes later the mother comes back into the restaurant sits down at the table and continues with her meal as if nothing has happend??!!!! I've been to alot of restaurants and have never heard anything like it. How could she have the front to just resume her dinner like nother had happened? She should have run off to the hills and hung her head in shame!blush

Poor woman

Stopfighting · 28/06/2008 19:31

Perhaps she is depressed

Don't be too quick to judge..

TotalChaos · 28/06/2008 19:31

poor cow sounds at the end of her tether. I've heard far more shocking things than that when out shopping in Liverpool.

Funnily enough I din't have any sympathy for her as she looked like a real Bitch! I felt sorry for the husband and child.

me too totalchaos.

she might have had the most hideous week of cranky children, and who knows what else, and this was the final straw.

what should she have done? made a public apology?

Sounds like she's having a tough time. Poor woman.

EyeballsintheSky · 28/06/2008 19:32

Hmm, I know how she feels. I felt like that many a time when dd was really little. Luckily a good does of anti-ds are sorting me out.

Blu · 28/06/2008 19:33

???

I often felt like that when trying to manage to be 'civilised' out with a toddler. She just snapped - lack of sleep, mild depression - and what her class, or that of the other restaurant customers has to do with it I'm not sure.

misdee · 28/06/2008 19:33

oh poor women. she sounds like she has had a terrible day.

ScoobyDoo · 28/06/2008 19:33

Er how the hell can someone "look like a real bitch"?

I think she sounds depressed & has obviously had all she can take, i would have a lot of sympathy.

Yeah, poor woman. You don't really know what made her react like that. It could have been the straw that broke the camels back tbh.

Understand where you're coming from. It must have sounded pretty bad, but we've all been there, with a small baby, when we feel we can't go on for one reason or another. Sorry you had to witness it and I'm sure the mother is mortally embarrassed too.

lulumama · 28/06/2008 19:34

oh, she looked like a bitch

i might well have looked like that when i was suffering with horrific PND and a diagnosis of an incurable bowel condition.

get some fucking compassion and don;t be so high and mighty

god, i really despair, when all we do is judge and point the finger and base opinions on a snapshot of others' lives , and what they look like for a split second

partaria · 28/06/2008 19:34

Maybe she'd already had the crappiest of crappy days and this was the final straw. Looks like she just tried to compose herself and resume the meal. Why is that "front" and why feel "shame" ? Embarrassment maybe, or tension, but surely not shame ?

Bellie · 28/06/2008 19:34

poor woman

I heard a lot worse than that at the church fete this afternoon.

misdee · 28/06/2008 19:34

i walked out before with a 'fuck this' as well.

i went round the corner and smoked a faaaaaaaaag.

long time ago now lol.

Jzee · 28/06/2008 19:35

I've heard alot worse walking around the streets of london - and I'm not easily shocked, but I was shocked by the fact this woman was immaculately dressed and would probably take a huge offence to hearing the same said by someone else.

OP posts:
Blu · 28/06/2008 19:35

I could suggest some far more shocj=king things she could have said...

You seem a little sensitive and fragile yourself, Jzee

ScoobyDoo · 28/06/2008 19:35

Judge, judge, judge get of your high horse women, no one is fecking perfect !

Blu · 28/06/2008 19:36

enormous assumptions!

stillwaiting · 28/06/2008 19:36

I don't really get 'she looked like a real Bitch'. Its like those threads that say "there are mothers at my dds school who drive 4x4s and are tall and blonde, they must be so bitchy and cliquey"
