I have an almost 8 and 5 year old and currently pregnant with my 3rd.

always been on the fence about a 3rd had 2 previous loses and hoping this one sticks. Is it normal to completely freak out and wonder if we are doing the right thing or feeling like we are messing everything up!?

all I seem to see is horror stories as to how hard it is with 3! Please share the good 🤞🏻

My third grandbaby is the most loved baby in the world. His siblings are 7 and 4 and adore him to bits and are old enough to not have any sibling rivalry or regression etc and they’re at school so he gets plenty of one to one time.

my own 3rd had siblings who were 11 and 9 when he was born and the same thing- adored from the start. Best labour and birth too.

Pregnant with my third, planned, also had a complete ‘what have I done’ panic when I got pregnant (also previous losses), I think it’s normal!

My third was an absolute doddle to parent, he’s an adult now and an absolute joy.

I fell pregnant with dc3 when my older two were 7&5. They were 8&6 by the time I gave birth. DC3 (7mo) was unexpected and a shock but she is the gift that keeps on giving and has made our family complete. She’s an utter joy and so lovely, I’m so glad that she happened 🩷

The older two in my experience can do quite a bit for themselves and after a few weeks/months, dc3 just slots in. For me, at the beginning, dh had to do most things for the older two and I just looked after dc3. It was hard but it settled down and we got into a rhythm. I honestly wish I knew then what I know now, as I was having worries about how everything would pan out but it’s the best thing ever. Congratulations and hope your pregnancy goes well 🩷

I would add that life is busier and I do have less time for myself but it’s temporary and so worth it!

ShetlandishMum · 26/01/2026 19:14

Our third is a joy and a blessing!

LoveSandbanks · 26/01/2026 19:39

My third was adored by his older brothers from the minute he was born. They used to fight over who was going to play with him. Now in their early 20’s and late teens he is still the one they both turn to.

out of all of mine he was the easiest to parent and has a naturally sunny disposition.

having three is great fun.

Aww this will be me mine will be the same age ♥️

thank you for that it sounds lovely!!!

i am very much excited but also very nervous but I guess it’s natural lovely to hear that it’s all settled down. I guess it’s like anything you end up in your own little routine x

do your eldest two share a room or do they have their own?

My third just fitted in, we hardly even noticed. He was born just before Christmas and we had a magical Christmas. He was always a very sunny child, endlessly cheerful and enthusiastic. He’s all grown up now and still a gorgeous human.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 26/01/2026 19:45

Our third is 5 and 7 years younger than her siblings. She is a much loved girl and now 8 years old! It definitely was harder going from 2 to 3 but we adore her and are so glad we had her

I am very excited to see how my two are with the little one.
my eldest is desperate for another sibling and has been asking for years can’t wait to tell her ♥️

My 3rd is now almost 4 months old and to be honest I am a husk of the woman I was 🥲 my others are 12 and just turned 3.

The baby is much clingier and a much worse sleeper than my other two were and just generally whingey, although a gorgeous happy little thing if you can catch him in the right mood 😂

I am really struggling at the moment with the absolute 0 time to myself. When the older two are in bed I am accustomed to relaxing/reading in peace with DH whereas now I still have a screaming baby to deal with in the evenings. I know this will pass eventually but I am struggling. I also feel a lot of guilt that I have next to no time for my toddler and older son, a lot of times the toddler will want me to do something with him but the baby will sleep NOWHERE but on me and I am glued to the sofa a lot of the day.

Sorry this turned into a whinge about me 🤣 hopefully some seasoned mums of 3 have some better experiences for us! Congratulations on your pregnancy OP.

Awww lovely sorry to hear this! I feel that 3 years old was a hard year for me with the toddlers, also 4 months everything is all still new and hard. Do you have much support ?

Swore for a week after my third pregnancy was confirmed.

best thing that ever happened to us.

PinkPanda99 · 27/01/2026 21:48

Unexpectedly fell pregnant with my 3rd when my first two were 6 and 3, wouldn’t change it for the world! With my older two being that bit older that made it easier, and she is their little princess - I don’t think she’ll ever be allowed a boyfriend 😂 honestly was the best thing ever to happen to us. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not without its challenges (and she can be very challenging!) but I’m so happy we have her.

I definitely found the change from 2 - 3 harder than 1 - 2, but mine were slightly younger than yours will be (six and 2.5). The thing I find hardest is that this has definitely tipped me over the edge of managing the house - washing accumulates so quickly, I find I lose things much more easily than I ever did! But DC3 is now 18 months and I know it will get easier. Just wish he’d bloody sleep!

Wizardonabroom · 03/02/2026 18:33

Really pleased with our decision to have DC3. Ours all have 3yr age gap (not purposefully, just how it worked out) and this has meant the older two could manage enough without me during the newborn phase, were toilet trained, could grab snacks for themselves, etc. The older two remained at school and preschool during my maternity leave too. Definitely invest in a comfy carrier so you can be hands free to cook dinner or help with homework.

DC3 fit right in and is generally easy going. The dog on the other hand makes my life difficult 😂

supafish · 03/02/2026 18:52

i had a surprise 3rd when my older 2 were 6 and 8 . Tbh he just had to fit in , especially in the morning rush for school . He had a feed and a fresh nappy and was put down in a bouncy chair and had to watch and wait whilst the girls got ready for the day . He used to fall asleep on the way from the school run in the pram and was quite often not dressed for the day till 11 when he woke up . My girls adored him , no jealousy at all . We did find as they all got older we did a lot of things separately, teenage girl stuff not suitable for an 7 year old boy. But in general it was fun . All adults now and all super close with kids of their own .

tiredlazydoesntmatter · 03/02/2026 18:59

My two eldest were 6&4 when baby brother came along and they adored him . Number 3 had lots of problems with reflux, aspiration pneumonia, trips to hospital frequently but never any resentment from the older 2 .
He is now an amazing ,healthy 26 yr old and all three siblings get on so well together despite very different personalities. Congratulations OP .X

purplespink · 07/02/2026 07:20

@unsureforevermoremy oldest two are different genders and have their own room each. We’re still having to upsize as dc3 is the same gender as dc1 but I feel that they’re too far apart age wise to share a room. Good luck 🩷
