Warts - what has been your most unbelievable solution?

CheshireMum1212 · 21/08/2025 20:21

My daughter has warts and I have read a lot of info online about bazuka, freezing etc but the ones that seem to never have them actually return seem to be linked to old faith healers.

What has been the most random and out there thing you have found that worked for warts?

My favourite teacher told me they were psychological, and that’s why old wives tales about rubbing with bacon and burying it on the north side of your house seemed to work. I’d had them all over my fingers for years. Within a few days they’d started to go and then they all went away and never came back. I still remember the conversation as clear as day and I don’t remember much 🤣

I burned one on my finger accidentally against the grill, zero pain, just smelled it burning. It fell off a few days later and never returned!

Sierra26 · 21/08/2025 21:09

Sorry I am not suggesting you do this to your daughter.

Just sharing my accidental solution!

The liquid nitrogen freezing treatment worked for the rest but it was a long and painful process.

Rubbing a raw potato on them has to be the silliest thing I tried

ThisCraftySeal · 21/08/2025 21:12

My dad got rid of mine when I was a child by wetting the top of a match, apparently it’s the sulphur in them. Mine have never come back

Edited

So did yours go directly after the conversation??

MIL is adamant a friend can “wish away” warts.

she did it for her horse once, via a phone call. Apparently

Ineffable23 · 21/08/2025 21:15

Mine all went away basically overnight I've night. I'd tried bazuka etc and eventually given up. Months later they just all vanished. I think I had 20 maybe 30. It was awful. Not that that helps now, but they do just go sometimes.

Used to have verrucas as a kid. I had some gel and I also had special plasters that were meant to reduce the verrucas. Separate products that weren't designed to be used together.
One day I was treating the warts myself. Dunno if I was meant to be but I can't have been more than 6. Anyway I put both products on. Gel, then plasters on top, and put my socks on and then just had a normal day. Got home from school and I still remember pulling my socks off and the plaster and tops of the warts coming off all together. I hadn't remembered the plasters etc so I was a bit shocked but when I looked at them I could see I'd taken the tops of the warts off. They healed and never came back!
I think a bit of aggression seems to work!

OtterMummy2024 · 21/08/2025 21:25

Hand foot and mouth virus cleared up a persistent verruca for me. Other people have found it got rid of their kids' molluscum.

You need to cause enough irritation to attract the immune system to the right layers of the skin. The acids etc help get rid of the hardened skin, bit the curative part is when the immune system can suddenly see/notice the HPV that causes the lesion and finally clears the little bastard out.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 21/08/2025 21:54

I had one main one and then others developed after it. All on my hands.

Nothing really worked until I had them frozen by the practise nurse (they don't offer this service anymore but you can pay privately).

I had it done 3 times. The first 2 times it was painless but didn't work. The last time, it REALLY hurt. So much that the nurse offered to stop, because she could see how much pain I was in. But I hated them, so told her to persevere. That 3rd time was the one that got rid of them.

Basically, I think she froze them longer and harder than I'd had them done before and that was what they responded to, the deep tissue damage. Which is kind of what a couple of other posters have said. Varying types of treatment, but deeper tissue damage.

Hard to do deliberately to yourself though due to the level of pain.

Yes! Within days and after a couple of weeks all gone

Shedmistress · 21/08/2025 22:04

I had one for years and years. I tried everything.

I finally got rid when I started having daily ginger heavy fresh fruit pushed through a juicer. After a month I realised it had gone.

billandtedsexcellentadventure · 21/08/2025 22:14

My daughter had lots. Did nothing and they just disappeared

ForeverTired89 · 21/08/2025 22:44

I got rid of mine using duct tape! Took a few weeks but was the only thing that worked 🤷🏼‍♀️

VikingLady · 21/08/2025 22:50

I read that all the treatments are tricking your body into noticing them so they actually heal. Warts for some reason otherwise tend to pass unnoticed by your immune system.

im mildly allergic (just a skin reaction) to tea tree oil, so I stabbed my finger wart with a sewing pin then dripped tea tree oil into/onto it and crushed half an aspirin into the plaster I dressed it with.

20 years, that flipping wart. Gone within a week.

Which reminds me that DS has a verruca I need to do the same to. If I can persuade him to let me stab it.

WhatMe123 · 21/08/2025 23:25

Dd1 we froze her verruca off, dd2 had some on her leg, when she started to pull her own trousers down for a wee, bit more forcefully than I would , they started to get knocked and irritated, they quickly turned black and then one day they just fell off 🙈

FieldOfBeans · 21/08/2025 23:54

I put clear nail polish over DS’ verrucas every night for a week. They were gone by the end of week 2. I’d tried every treatment under the sun in the year before that.

BrickBiscuit · 22/08/2025 00:14

As a child, dozens of warts appeared on my hands one summer. My dad said put them out in the sun. I did, and they went.

sparklychair · 22/08/2025 00:23

My mother had hers "charmed" away. She wasn't a superstitious person and I think she was amazed when they disappeared overnight. (This was long before I was born, so I didn't witness it)
However isn't it due to your immune system finally recognising the wart virus and reacting, so they suddenly just go? And positive thinking has been proven to improve your immune response, so perhaps the subconscious hope that the wart charmer will work is enough for the extra boost in some cases 😁

Apple cider vinegar worked on my son

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 22/08/2025 00:52

I had to take one of my kids to the dermatologist for these, and the prescribed treatment was a paste made of salicylic acid, high strength, prepared by a compounding pharmacy.

Worked a treat, and quickly, when nothing else had. One popped up again a couple of years later and the same paste, retrieved from the back of the cupboard and out of date, killed it quick smart and that was the end.

ImWearingPantaloons · 22/08/2025 10:38

I had a vertical when I was at uni, my GO told me for some reason the immune system doesn’t get rid of them and I had to ‘think it away’ to remind my immune system into doing its job.

I thought he was crazy but tried it anyway - it was gone in a week.

Stick0rTwist · 22/08/2025 10:50

Dandelions work for verucas, my granny told me and I tried it and within a week they had gone. Get a dandelion from the garden, break the stem and rub the liquid on your veruca. It’ll go black after a day or two and die. It honestly works!! Might work on warts, who knows?!
