School uniform for overweight 5 year old

I am new on here and know this is Mumsnet, but I need urgent advice for my overweight grandson.
He is obese and I cannot get school trousers to fit him (he is nearly 5) . I would like to get elasticated trousers in bigger sizes. Have tried Marks but they do not fit.
Does anyone know what would happen if I cannot get a uniform to fit when he starts school (I would have to send him in, in black joggers), or anywhere that I could get advice now it is the school holidays.
Any help appreciated

Not true. MN delete posts they deem inappropriate, they leave them up if they feel they don’t break their rules.

They do not. They do not sit there reading every post making judgements. You can’t possibly think they do. They look at reported posts, which you know as you got in first to get rid of the poster who challenged you

And that cruel child will be dealt with sympathetically by teachers who will talk to them about bullying and unkind words and how impactful they are. They will tell that child that THEY need to change, not the overweight child.

this is what normal people do and expect.

I would hope the cruel comments by children would be dealt with appropriately by staff. However, words cut deep and it may be too late for the child on the receiving end. Again, I have said how great it is that OP is looking out for her grandson, doing the best for him, and should be applauded. Not sure why posters are twisting things 🤷‍♀️

Sorry if that’s been your experience. Not been ours.
If it does happen at that age I would expect the school to come down on the parents pretty hard, that’s where the “bully’s” attitudes will have come from.

I too hope school would come down hard on this. As I’ve said just now, words cut deep and once said can’t be unsaid. But if you think bullying/unkind words don’t happen then you’re clearly seeing the world through rose tinted glasses.

I don’t need, or want, to get rid of any one. Yes MN read reported posts. They delete if they deem them to break their guidelines, if not they leave them up.

Just because your experience with nd children is different to others does not mean other children suffer? Me grow up? I am defending these young innocent children AND parents who are being tarnished by people such as yourself because you cannot be arsed to do a bit of research.
Okay say you're correct and nd children 'don't struggle with obesity', children with autoimmune diseases do. Do yourself a favour and research hashimotos. A very common disease but unfortunately not recognised enough in the UK.
But of course, I'm posting bullshit.

Nowhere did I say ND don’t suffer with obesity. Given that I have a close family member with Hashimotos, I don’t need to research it thanks.

Many retailers have sturdy fit or plus size. Some retailers also have larger sizes in elastic waist designed for additional needs but they could be shortened. Ideally do find school trousers because other kids can be cruel and will notice if he’s in different trousers even if school says it’s ok. Asda have elastic up to secondary school sizes online

All - it sounds as though the OP has ordered some shorts and I’ll be surprised if she returns to the thread (which, in places, has got rather unpleasant).

Go Grandma!!!! You sound like an absolute diamond xxx

My son has the next plus size trousers. He’s not overweight but he’s very bootylicious and he doesn’t like anything tight 😂
They are quite roomy so may be worth trying them!
