At what age do toddlers stop napping?

My DD is 25 months and will only go down for a nap if she is in her pram out for a walk. This is fine when the weather is good, however worried about winter time. At what age do toddlers generally stop napping please (I know each child is different but just trying to get an idea).

Totally dependent on the child.
My sleep dodging oldest dropped his nap at 22 months and still int sleep through for several more years
His brother was over 3.

Most in England don't nap at school - so 4 send aa number on months.

At dd's nursery, 2.5 seemed to be a very common time for naps to drop, as the children in the 2.5+ were taken elsewhere to nap, rather than the entire group being put down.

Between 2 and 3.

My DC only naps in a pram but we have a very light wait travel stroller/ buggy that i just push about the house and park up in a room when she is asleep. Works better than a walk outside as well because there are less distractions. Children stop napping at very different ages but if she is still falling asleep and staying asleep for about an hour or so and it doesn't effect bed time its probably still needed 😊

When i did a bit of research the answer came back as really should offer them until 3 but they can be sporadic after 2/ 2.5.

DS stopped napping completely at 2.5 but it was a long process and didn't just drop the nap overnight. He napped every other day for quite a while. It made putting him down for the nap v easy on the alternate days.

The day you bring their newborn sibling home. <Looking at you dd….> 2years exactly. Angry

DC1 - bang on 24 months
DC2 - is 8 and still naps sometimes. Took 3 hour naps until he started school.
DC3 - around 2.5 years, sometimes still has a nap aged 3.5 but then bedtime is a fucking nightmare if she even has a 5 minute nap.

They vary!

One of mine was 16 months, the other was 4!

jill5676 · 03/08/2025 19:16

Mine stopped her naps at nursery about 2/3 months before turning 3 but still had short naps at home until just before her third birthday. She's 3 and 2 months now and will not routinely have any planned naps but it's impossible to stop a car nap from happening sometimes (with the knock on v late bedtime!)

DS is dropping it at the moment, 2 y10 m old. He was napping every other day and now it’s gone down to one day in four maybe.

Seeline · 03/08/2025 19:22

Both mine stopped at 18 months.
The elder really wanted to stop earlier - I just gave up trying at 18 months.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 03/08/2025 19:26

Mine stopped around 3. They’re now grown teenagers and nap at least twice a day!!

user2848502016 · 03/08/2025 19:37

Mine were both on the young side, DD1 around 24 months, DD2 some time between 2 and 2.5.
Nap time is great but an easy bed time and good nights sleep is better

johnd2 · 03/08/2025 19:41

First stopped about 4 or 5 years old, although he could skip them from about 3.5 if I was brave enough.
Second child just under 3.
But I think it does depend on so many factors. I've probably had more naps since having kids then when I was a kid myself...

johnd2 · 03/08/2025 19:43

Just to add to above, we switched to "quiet time" once our eldest stopped wanting to nap, so he could sit and read or whatever, as long as it was in his room quietly. It was good for avoiding the argument about whether he wanted a nap and often he did actually nap.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 03/08/2025 19:44

Both of mine stopped napping at around 3 (36 months). Then we introduced quiet time in their bedroom for 45mins or so with books, tablet or toys so we all get a break from eachother before the rest of the day 😂

Lemniscate8 · 03/08/2025 19:45

All mine stopped taking regular naps before their first birthday, one significantly earlier. It was just sporadic after that, maybe a couple of naps a month, at odd unpredictable moments

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/08/2025 19:50

Interestingly, with males, there is only a window of 'stopping napping' of about forty-five years before it starts again.🥱

Ihaveoflate · 03/08/2025 19:52

Mine started to refuse at just after 2 but we clung on for a couple more months by walking her around in the buggy for 30 mins.

She had completely stopped all napping by 2.5

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 03/08/2025 19:54

13 months! 😪

Baby26 · 03/08/2025 19:55

My 3 and a half year old still naps if he has the opportunity to (ie, he's in his buggy or in the car). But he also has nap-free days too.

Spacie · 03/08/2025 19:59

Mine were between 18 months and 3 and a half. It was the one who stopped at 18 months who fell asleep at school though.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 03/08/2025 20:32

DS1 at 12 months
DS2 napped for two hours until he was three

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 03/08/2025 20:33

My daughter stopped at 10 months unless in the car 😬

Bunny2006 · 03/08/2025 21:10

My daughter stopped suddenly at 23 months
Continues to nap on her 1 full day at nursery for a few more months and will still fall asleep in the pram/car. I changed it to quiet time as well but she is always rocked or stayed with to sleep etc so the quiet time involves me reading books to her
