Farley Rusks… how are they still being sold?

Everyone I know seems to turn their nose up at them and say they are full of sugar. But they are in every supermarket so who buys them? People must do otherwise they would lose their listing in the supermarket?

I was tempted to buy some as I did give them mixed with milk to my first child as a breakfast now and again. But I feel ashamed to buy this time for some reason.

Me too. Delicious 😍

I had to stop buying them because I could get through a full pack in one sitting.
I do miss them!

They are epic with blackberry jam on them.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 03/08/2025 12:28

Because they're delicious!

BertieBotts · 03/08/2025 12:28

People still buy them for the nostalgia value.

There are also plenty of people who aren't horrified by the notion of sugar, rightly or wrongly. And at least when DS1 was little (he is now a teenager...) the packaging made a huge thing out of saying they now had less sugar in. My friend bought some for her baby so I tried one and they still tasted incredibly sweet to me!

nhsmanagersanonymous · 03/08/2025 12:31

I eat them too

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/08/2025 12:32

Didn’t buy for my own DC but I remember eating and enjoying them as an older child. I guess people are buying them as they taste nice but not necessarily giving them to really young children any more.

muddyford · 03/08/2025 12:34

I remember buying these at university. Lovely with a glass of cold milk. Must get some.

marshmallowfinder · 03/08/2025 12:36

I buy them sometimes to eat for breakfast as they're delicious!

ThejoyofNC · 03/08/2025 12:38

My MIL to try and force me to put them in my 10 week olds bottle because "she must be starving."

Cinnabonswirl · 03/08/2025 12:39

Ooo now I need to buy some

Whitehorses67 · 03/08/2025 12:40

Lots of adults love them. I had a boyfriend who got through a box every other day.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 03/08/2025 12:42

They are full of sugar - and palm oil.

People buy them because they taste nice. Like loads of other ultra processed foods, junk food and fast food... we know they are not good for us but we like the taste (and the convenience). They are also aggressively marketed and often seen as a cheap option.

SilverHammer · 03/08/2025 12:55

As a sixties child we all had them as babies. None of us were overweight or are addicted to sugar. There are far worse things out there. I would stop worrying about what other people think and do what you want.

I was born in 1957 and mum gave me them as a baby. I was never overweight and I'm not addicted to sweet things (I much prefer cheese!). I very occasionally gave them to my son too when he was born in 1977. He's never been overweight or particularly mad about sweet things.

mumda · 03/08/2025 13:05

There are some in the cupboard here too. DH eats them.

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 03/08/2025 13:07

I like them. They were all I could keep down when I had morning sickness, with black tea.

Sarahpainting · 03/08/2025 13:07

I was also born in 1957, I was given these as a baby, I also gave them to my children, we’re all addicted to sugar 🥴 I still buy them occasionally they’re my go to comfort food although they don’t taste the same unfortunately.

Mavvera · 03/08/2025 13:08

I love a Farleys rusk, yum

Mavvera · 03/08/2025 13:10

They have changed though and for the worse, probably less sugar, bit like how Ready Brek has changed, that used to be much nicer tasting

Finteq · 03/08/2025 13:13

They are very tasty

Finteq · 03/08/2025 13:14

Just buy some. Don't be ashamed.
Just eat them all yourself.

MaryGreenhill · 03/08/2025 13:22

My DH has them with butter spread thickly on them he loves them 😋

I also ate them with morning sickness, just nibbled them dry. I do like them buttered though.

Never gave them to dc but I imagine my mum did as she has firm beliefs about what babies should eat. I just gave them regular biscuits.
