What’s the best thing your child has ever received in a party bag?

I’m hoping for some inspiration rather than tat that will not even be enjoyed before going straight in the bin 😂

Play doh
Bath bombs
Stickers
Toy cars

Keep it simple.

You could even make your own play dough and split in to pots.

Less is more, one item, sheet of stickers, and some cake.

I am a bit of a scrooge though 😆

DS once got a book and a piece of cake. That was very much appreciated

user101101 · 27/06/2025 16:09

The sweets tbh

The thing he liked the most, or the thing I liked?
He liked this monstrosity: https://www.temptationgifts.com/media/catalog/product/cache/623a6c74e30aa11506d045198d97fecc/t/y/ty-42520-gizmo-puffie-beanie-boo.jpg
He also enjoyed a little bracelet making kit where you threaded your own beads. He loves stickers.

Socks.

BlondieMuver · 27/06/2025 16:37

A book instead of a party bag

HelloHellebore · 27/06/2025 16:39

A fart balloon. Such a small thing and yet so much fun…

Needmorelego · 27/06/2025 16:41

Mr Squishy.
He was a tiny little stretchy figure (about an inch long) that was completely pointless but well loved for a long long time until an over enthusiastic stretch pulled his head off.
RIP Mr Squishy ♥️

LimitedBrightSpots · 27/06/2025 17:03

An inflatable sword
A neon whirly-thing.
Glow bracelets
This spinny helicopter thing that you pulled a string and launched it into the air
Sticker sheets where you created your own pizza, together with a gummy pizza and pizza-themed stationary (can you guess this was a carefully themed pizza-making party 😂?).

Now for the list of what hasn't gone down well:

  • Books - generally boring or poor quality. Exception was Where's Wally?
  • Seeds and a little pot to plant them in.
  • A "knit-your-own puffball" or similar type horror kit.
  • Slime than stains things.
  • Anything requiring extensive parental involvement, with the exception of a mini grow-your-own crystals set which we all surprised ourselves by enjoying.

Don’t over think it.

mine liked

cake
sweets
slime
bouncy ball
rubber
pencil
balloon

but mostly the cake

InfoSecInTheCity · 27/06/2025 17:09

My 11yo just said party blower/whistle

Usernumber12356 · 27/06/2025 17:12

Sweets. Pretty much everything else ends up in the bin after a day or a week.

Donostiera · 27/06/2025 17:13

I'm blowing my own trumpet here but once we gave out magnet stones (hematite) to a bunch of 9 year olds. They were a huge hit!

NazeLife · 27/06/2025 17:16

DS says "small Lego set"

ImFineItsAllFine · 27/06/2025 17:19

@LimitedBrightSpots totally agree with your list of stuff that didn't go down well, that's been my experience with my 2 DSs.

Mine like the plastic crap. A particular favourite was little soldiers with parachutes on. Once DC got fabric superhero capes and masks, they were a hit.

Giving out books or seeds/pots is mostly done to impress the other parents tbh.

arcticpandas · 27/06/2025 17:23

I hate the whistles but the kids love them. They also liked parachute guy, little slimy figurines, bouncy ball. One parent put 10 £ in all party bags. My DS was very happy but I found it ott. The sweets are always appreciated. The books never read.

dizzydizzydizzy · 27/06/2025 17:25

I found a cheqp source of Playmobil people one year and they went down welll.

Judellie · 27/06/2025 17:31

Bubbles.
some of the sweets, little chocolate bars kept - the rest of the stuff got binned.
I did hear of someone who gave out comics instead of party bags but they're about £5.99 a comic so not sure it's a good idea. Plus Redan Publishing (Fun to learn friends, Fun to learn favourites etc) have just gone into administration so there are far fewer comics to choose from

onwardandupwards · 27/06/2025 17:35

Farting slime, a whoopee cushion, a small pot of pringles and some stampers were the favourite party bag items here.

IchiNiSanShiGo · 27/06/2025 17:36

Girls 9th birthday party - tie dye velvet hair scrunchies, Kit Kat chunky, mini pastel highlighter pens

RoseGoldRainbow · 27/06/2025 17:38

Books are always good!
Bubbles are always a hit here too and always get used

Rocknrollstar · 27/06/2025 17:39

A jigsaw and a book from The Works.

PlinkFizz · 27/06/2025 17:43

Sunflower seeds and a small pot of compost, my DS loved watching the sunflower grow, it ended up much taller than him

Foreverm0re · 27/06/2025 17:45

A nice book. I think it was the kind from The Works that are usually in the 10 for £10 offer. So much nicer than tat that gets binned.

MoistVonL · 27/06/2025 17:46

The times they got a book they were very chuffed. The gliders (planes or insect shapes) were also very well received. Bubble mix would get spilled at least half the time.
