What’s the best thing your child has ever received in a party bag?

I’m hoping for some inspiration rather than tat that will not even be enjoyed before going straight in the bin 😂

Mini metal slinkies. Not the plastic ones that dont work.

Yoyo but again, needs to be a decent, usable one.

A bag of marbles.

Mine always liked those little figurine/moneybox painting kits you'd buy in Wilkos (Hobbycraft do them but you need to catch them in the sale). Would keep them entertained for ages and she liked to keep the item.

TBH though, we put too much effort into party bags when the children were little. Nowadays I'd just do some interesting sweets and a cake.

  1. colouring book + crayons
  2. bubbles
  3. sweets

My son got one of these 3D printed polychromatic dragons in a party bag for a 9th birthday. It was a big hit. This is a stock photo from Amazon, not his actual one, and the price on Amazon is crazy high, I am sure she didn't pay that for them.

I did a piece of cake and a Lego minifigure each one year, which I thought was quite a good little party bag gift. You can sometimes buy last years minifigure series a bit cheaper in places like Argos.

I hate all the plastic normally put in party bags. At a rock climbing party, the party bags were a bandana, caribeener clip, plus a big pebble and stick on decoration to make a rock monster. They loved making the rock monster. The bandanas were used for years as sun protection, the caribener is used still for clipping a water bottle to rock sacks when hiking. The party was around 8 years ago!

A lot of parents give books but I don’t think the kids ever want them. Now we tend to see parents giving one decent gift rather than a bag of cheap sweets and landfill. Recent things have been a hula hoop, craft set, swuishmallow.

Mini bags of party rings. They are low in calories and vegan, but the kids love them. It’s not a party without party rings!

My child likes books, but those bundles from The Works are often a bit shit. Our nursery gets Santa to give them to the kids at Christmas and they're always awful. I went to a party recently where they handed out Winnie the Witch books though and DC was delighted.

The sticky man that is still on the ceiling 13 years later.

A Mr Men book

scrivette · 27/06/2025 22:48

The yellow stretchy man, cake, chocolate, mini pack of party rings.
One year socks were great and lasted ages (although DC was only 3).
mini rubix cubes were a hit one year as were fidget toys.

I agree with a PP who said keeping the bits in a box for long journeys was really useful.

Caravaggiouch · 27/06/2025 22:51

I like the ones where it’s a book instead of a party bag. Honestly though, my DC like the plastic tat. The noisier, tackier, slimier. glittery-er the better.

Partyrings123 · 27/06/2025 22:51

I got little mini etch a sketch and the kids loved then

Small water pistol
Popping candy (packs from Poundland)

MyLifeMyChoices · 27/06/2025 23:05

Sweets and an i-spy book.

Books only work when they are decent ones.

Always happy when it is just a sweet cone.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/06/2025 23:25

by a large margin, a decent quality model Parasaurolophus and a bit of cake, nothing else.
The others were all forgettable but I can remember the dinosaur species over 20 years later!😂

@whattheactualfffff Child-me and adult-me would both really appreciate some roll-on body glitter, preferably scented so it smells like the 90's. Seriously can we go back to the 90's, already?

We got a reusable nice cup with lid that had sweets in instead of a party bag - that’s still going strong 2 years later!

And one year got a helium balloon with sweets in place of the weight. That was LOVED!

That is such a good idea!

Can you say what age the child is and what kind of party it is?

6 year old and trying to avoid a theme currently! Just a regular party with games and music.

People say about party bags having tat in them etc etc but my kids still have yo-yos slinkies and plastic medals they got in party bags and still use/ look at them. I totally disagree with the book thing- most children will be disappointed including some avid readers
