Human rights health visitor

I have seen it here before but the posts are old. Before my baby was born i told my midwife (UK) that i did not want any visits at home. I just like my privacy and want to be able to decide who enters my home. They offer visits as a service so i just decided to not let them in. I was happy to go for appointments.

Then in the hospital when the baby was born, they told me "someone was going to come into my house even if i do not want that". I kept saying no. They kept saying they just wanted to see where the baby would sleep etc. i said no. Then the midwifes came to the door and i told them i did not want them in my house. So they reported me to social services. Social services called me and threatened with official investigation if i do not let the midwifes and later health visitor in my house. Also for the one year visit.

I texted them many times i did not want. I also told them in person. So i have a lot of proof. Ok long story short i let them in.because they threatened with social services investigation = trying to take your baby. I had to let them in, they said everything was fine, and closed the case. But instead of bonding with my baby i was stressed that they were trying to take her away.

So. It is ten months ago so the one year visit is coming and I DO NOT WANT THEM IN MY HOUSE. So i decided to go after them. And yes, it is human rights violation. It is not normal in civilised countries that someone comes to your house without your consent and without a warrant. If you do not let them in they basically threaten to take your baby.

I am not looking for the comments that they are just helping etc. I am not interested in that 😉. What i am looking for here is other moms who went after them. I am researching where to complain. I am also making a list of solicitors who would help me. And maybe some group court case? I will make complaint to NHS. I believe we only have one year for this kind of thing so only people who experienced this last year. Or if you went through going to court and have a good no win no fee lawyer (London or Kent). They are violating human rights you everyone so no, i will not let it go.

No one can know more than the OP has said. However, the MW and/or HV services referred OP to social services. Social services opened up an investigation. As pointed out by a number of people on this thread who work within that system, SS would not have taken the referral and opened up an investigation if the referral was simply that the visits were declined so it is not simply the case of a MW or HV using an idle threat to get what they want, they did something concrete that would have required an explanation of a reasonable concern. Of course they could have made something up but why would they do so if they didn’t have any concerns?

if SS did have grounds then that will come out as OP pursues them. At the moment she is unaware of any grounds so pursuing them isn’t unreasonable.

im sorry you experienced this, that’s really bad. I’m going through patient rights myself with my health visitor. I think you may need a solicitor who specialises in healthcare law: patient rights. Also you didn’t consent for them to conduct review on a minor and they went ahead anyway and that’s an even more major thing. if you have evidence of what they threatened you’ll most likely win the case too:

Jesus. Do people really have this much money and this few problems in their life to do this?! I would love to have that luxury!

Consent was violated and a healthcare professional can abuse their position of power and cause harm, not everyone in healthcare has good intentions and some unfortunately slip through. You can’t judge if you have never been through it yourself. For example lying to get access into your home and lying on a risk assessment that can potentially can get your baby taken away from you or performing surgery you didn’t consent to that’s now left you worse off.
There are a lot of no win no fee solicitors who will act on your behalf, so your time and money is not wasted. Try not to gaslight other mums who want to pursue the legals. GL :)

But its nothing to do with the health visitor. It's the fact that she refused the baby's midwife check that initially caused this issue.

Lol “gaslighting other mums”! Don’t take me to court 😬

When has a surgeon botching an operation leaving someone disfigured ever been mentioned?! Obviously that’d be a case for the courts but that’s not even remotely connected to what the OP is about!

If you think HVs and midwives make a habit of deliberately lying on their forms - thereby risking their own careers to ruin a stranger’s life with zero motivation - to try and take your baby away then you’ve got a serious, serious problem with paranoia. Do you also believe the earth is flat?

if someone wants to go to court, why shouldn’t they? And why would you want to get in the way of that? there’s no need to call people paranoid and make fun of them.

No, if you read I have never said HV’s and midwives make it a habit to ruin people’s lives and their careers, don’t put words in my mouth, I just gave examples of patient rights violation. Here’s an article of a true event of social services taking a baby away 2H AFTER BEING BORN! When they asked for psychiatrists report of the mother and it came back fine, they asked for psychologists report, then when that came back fine tried arguing her disability won’t allow for her to care for her child properly. Do you see it’s one excuse and then they look for another and another. it’s not paranoia, this is real life for some parents and AGAIN unfortunately it happens :(

Mother horrified as social workers take daughter from her at birth

Kelly Williams, 37, from Doncaster, had fully recovered from depression when her baby was taken away from her.

AND social services admitted they'd made a mistake and IIRC the family were compensated. People love to bring up these rare cases from years ago and act as though they happen on a regular basis - which they don't.

Agreed. That is a horrific story. I am very very much against the discrimination people with MH suffer when having children. It’s absolute bullshit that a mother with depression, who has actively got support to make herself better (not an easy thing to do with depression) would be discriminated against in this way. It’s disgusting. BUT as others have pointed out this is a very extreme and rare example from 14 years ago. Refusing a midwife entry to check on your baby is only going to arouse more suspicion and therefore make the OP more likely to attract negative attention. Once you have a child you are basically in the system and you have to play by the rules like it or not. I don’t like it either but I accept it’s part of having a baby in a developed country and I feel thankful that I’m not being harassed about more serious issues, which the OP is likely to be if she doesn’t let the midwife in! It’s just about sucking it up and playing by the rules. It’s life.

King913 · 12/07/2025 00:00

I am going through this. The HV lies. My children are now under social services Protection. The social worker doesn't want to be but the Health visitor literally lies. I have twins and one was born a lb bigger. I brought my own scales to weigh them as I want to being there mum and I'm actually a Personal Trainer anyways and she's taken offence to it saying that the twins are too different in sizes (they were born different sizes) and I don't know how to use scales. So I sent a detailed report on everything and sent it to my social worker who said it was perfectly worded. I have to see social worker every 10 days and she literally has no worries at all and is for me. I dont get these social workers. How about praise us mums who want to raise our children and clearly are capable of such. My house is spotless consistently and the social worker always notes that. The NHS is literally a shambles. They forced my birth at 34 weeks kept us in for 16 days reported me to social for refusing anti biotics my twins didn't need and they also stated that. I also will be sueing them! It's negligence on their behalf to waste money that other children and families will need. I also have 5 children. Oldest being 17 so it's not like I'm a first time mum either.

The HVs are the specialists.
The GPs are just general .
It's in their name 😂
You go to your GP they would probably refer you to the HV team.
Honestly....🙄

Never once in my 17 years of parenting 3 children has a health visitor been able to assist me with any issue. In fact every single time I contacted them during my eldests early years THEY referred me to my GP. The only thing a HV visitor did for me is weigh my kids once or twice!

Well mine weighed my baby regularly (drop in clinic available weekly if you wanted it), did a referral to a dietician when there was concerns about weight loss, ran a new mother and baby weekly group, ran information sessions about weening, vaccinations etc....oh and gave us some free books.
