Siblings sharing a bath

Hi folks,

I'd like some stories on siblings sharing baths.

What age did you stop?

I have a girl and a boy and they share bath and they love it, but I wonder at what age it becomes better for them to be separate.

Any advice or input would be welcome 🤓

Thanks

Mine probably stopped sharing a bath at 7/8 ish (there’s 18 months between them both girls); we do have a massive bath tho, they started to have showers instead and very rarely have baths now (age 11 and 12), I’ve got two more age 4 and 5 (both girls again!) and they still happily share a bath so I can’t see that stopping any time soon.

Newyeargymwanker · 17/01/2025 11:37

When the eldest was about 8 and more aware of his body.

(although sometimes they still jump in together to have water fights….and as I don’t want the bathroom absolutely drenched I discourage this).

YeGodsandLittleFishies · 17/01/2025 11:39

You stop when:

they ask to stop
they get too big to share
they start having showers instead.

I can’t actually remember when mine stopped. It was a natural progression.

I think the children will decide one day to stop. Hopefully this happens naturally before they reach puberty.

Gnomea · 17/01/2025 11:40

12&10 same sex still share occasionally

PurpleThistle7 · 17/01/2025 12:07

My daughter started showering around 5 or so so I guess it was 5/2 for us - but they shared a bath a couple times on holiday etc if there was a fun new bathtub. My daughter stopped being comfortable being naked around people around 9

Samsung1122 · 17/01/2025 12:31

hey im in the same situation, mine are 5 and 3 and mixed gender ( boy is the eldest) , me and my partner only had this conversation yesterday, they love having a bath together but since there mixed gender i also was thinking what age is it appropriate to.

W0tnow · 17/01/2025 12:33

I have 3 kids, very close in age, I don’t remember when they stopped bathing together. It’s just happened organically. I think one of them suddenly preferred showers and it went from there.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 17/01/2025 12:37

When they got too big and wanted to shower instead.

Passthecake30 · 17/01/2025 12:52

my 2 have an 18month gap, I think they stopped showering together when the eldest (ds) was 5. I think it was mainly due to them playing up rather than anything else!
While I’m here… I had a lot of people telling me that they shouldn’t share rooms (on holiday, visiting relatives) from about 10. We didn’t actually stop until a few years after that.

Sherararara · 17/01/2025 12:53

When they start having showers.

TeenLifeMum · 17/01/2025 12:55

Probably about 9 but at 13 they’ve been known to get in a shower together (identical twins echo flit between “don’t look at me naked” and “oh we look the same anyway”).

porridgecake · 17/01/2025 12:57

Before 10. Definitely as soon as they older one is able to shower independently.

Bobbybobbins · 17/01/2025 14:12

I was 9 when I asked to stop sharing with my younger sister

Notgivenuphope · 17/01/2025 14:31

We don't have a bath so day 0 hahahaha

MamaTrois · 17/01/2025 14:34

We have three DC, aged 5 and under. The eldest two are mixed sex. They've both decided they much prefer solo bath time rather than sharing, so that's what we do.

Oioisavaloy27 · 17/01/2025 14:36

I would say own bath from the age of 5.

Sprogonthetyne · 17/01/2025 14:36

When they were 7&4, though that was more because we have a relatively small bath and they're both tall so didn't really fit when the had to lie down to rinse hair. They'll still walk in an chat/ play while the others in the bath, so if they fitted would probably still share at 8/5

Waitingfordoggo · 17/01/2025 14:43

I have a DD and a DS, 2.5 years apart in age, DD is the eldest. I can't remember when they stopped sharing a bath but it happened organically as a PP put it, and way before puberty. I think they naturally gravitated towards having showers at some point. At a guess I would say DD was 7 or 8 and DS 5/6. had their bath in the evenings.

mitogoshigg · 17/01/2025 14:44

It happened naturally around 7/8 because they switched to showering

NC10125 · 17/01/2025 14:46

Mine are 9 (girl) and 7 (boy) and still share sometimes.

I stopped making it the normal/default routine when dd was around 8 but I don't stop them doing it if they decide to..........

Ksjdbdb · 17/01/2025 14:58

My daughter started asking to have her own bath around 7, after that now and again they shared mainly if they wanted to use a bath fizzer etc but that was directed by them

Monstermashermashedthemonster · 17/01/2025 16:10

My husband baths our 2 and 3 year old boys together. No idea when he plans on doing separate baths.
I bath them separately because I find it easiar.

Dyra · 17/01/2025 17:17

My 5yo DD is starting to state a preference for showers, but is still happy to have a bath with her nearly 3yo brother. Once she starts not wanting people to see her naked, we'll bath them separately.

Shubbypubby · 17/01/2025 18:48

My sister is eight years older than me & we used to share baths when I was little- this was the 80s. Mine have never bathed together but they're a boy and a girl and ten years between them so it wouldn't have been appropriate.
