Well with PFB I used Ambre Solaire Factor 35 specially for kids - even in this country on not that sunny days. I have calmed down a bit now and use factor 25 boots own brand. This is probably still too high but better safe than sorry.

we all use piz buin factor 30 all day lotion. Just apply in the morning and you're done for the day.

Banana boat or Piz Buin, we get them on offer from Costco.

Varying brands depending on what boots has on offer, but always use factor 50, as both children very pale.

I love Boots Soltan Once, which is supposed to only need topping up every six hours. I have two very fair-skinned kids and we live in a hot country, and they didn't burn once all summer. It's a bit sticky to apply but no other complaints. Boots usually do BOGOF promotions on it too.

DS and I don't have pale skin though. It takes a lot for me to burn.

Ds would burn witin 10 mins on an average sunny day (in UK) without factor 50. Having burnt so badly as a child that I had a huge (6 inch) blister on my back and now a scar, I am very cautious with regards to the sun and my children.

Just bought Ambre Sol factor 50 for kids. Also some small tubes of Tesco own Factor 30 for nursery.

I like the all day suncream

soltan for kids once tha lasts 6hrs and is f50 - it's bogof now.

I use organicy type ones, because there is seriously some nasty shit in suncream, especially the high factor.. None of these chemicals has actually ever been tested officially, you know.. hence REACH programme of testing under the EU which is just starting. why take the risk?

I try to use organic ones and buy a tube of Dr Hauschka for kids each year - it seems to last (because I never let them take their clothes off either). I use it too.

It's a mineral sunscreen but I'm also suspicious these days about nanoballs! (titanium oxide)

I posted yesterday because I'm still wondering about trying out the all day stuff - especially for hot school days when you know they will NOT bother putting any cream on at lunchtime. But don't like not knowing what dangers there are so need more advice first.

My kids are very fair and I don't take any chances.

Can you provide evidence for that claim Starlight? I do recall reading that some researchers claimed there was a theoretical risk of vitamin D deficiency if a child was completely sunblocked all of the time, however, in practice I doubt very much if this would be possible, particulary as 10 minutes of sunlight a day is actually all you need. The danger of skin cancer is far, far higher. People need to get their relative risks in perspective.

Lavera chemical free-it's fab!!!!! Really works and has no nasties in it, my son had mild eczema for a while and it never ever caused a flair up.

I read something too that it's far better to try and keep out of the direct sun, cover up and not go mad with the suncream.

I like my lot to run around uncreamed in the sun regularly. I use big floppy hats and cotton clothes,always keep out of the mid day sun, try to keep to shady areas etc. Never ever let them sit in full on blazing sun.

Obviously use sun suits and cream on the beach or where there is no shade. Always carry my cream incase it's needed. I think the chemical free creams work immediately rather than needing time to work-don't quote me though I could be wrong.

Anyhow none of them have ever burnt. They are only 3 and 4 though so it could change as they get older and I have less control.

hmm prob as much to do with people sitting indoors playing computer games as the suncream IMHO.
