After a blanket denial by other parents to recognise cheese strings (dd's party), I'll start with:
Ribena
processed cheese slices
coke for children
readymeals for children

and we are vegetarian.
Aside from that, dig in

I don't "ban" anything, but there are some things I don't buy, such as Bernard Matthews anything, Sunny Delight, tinned meat such as Spam, but that's it

Sidge · 18/04/2008 14:39

Mushrooms.

noddyholder · 18/04/2008 14:39

Most of you are describing my average shopping trolley.
Oh dear.
The other day I made homemade lasagne, risotto and macaroni cheese, all in one day.
Yet, I do buy pork pies, crisps, diet coke(for me), kitkats, ribena and robinsons squash, cakes and sweets, pasta in tins, ds loves EVERYTHING from spiderman to scooby doo.
I have bought tinned curry.
I have bought a dairlylea dunker thing before and one of those lunchables last week - ds loved them.
Dh did buy a 12 pack of fuitshoots once.
I buy Costco chiken nuggets - they are huge bits of chicken in crumbs and are delicious. One of may favourite things EVER.
We live off sausages. I do buy dolmio occassionally.
I don't buy non free range eggs, crap ham, crap cheese things. I don't buy bernard matthews. or potato faces stuff.
I better get my coat

Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 17:00

I am very very close to banning hargen daz ice cream.....really close......

DD1 is addicted and I can't share.....

gonna have to go with the banning route me thinks!

crokky · 18/04/2008 17:00

Nothing is banned here!

Sidge · 18/04/2008 19:04

I'll join you Oblomov

This lot would have me up against a wall and shoot me; I buy squash, crisps (for me), diet coke (for me), jaffa cakes, oven chips, sausages and fish fingers.

BUT we eat those things very occasionally (well except for the crisps and diet coke, I eat those far too regularly...) and my family eat fresh home made food 99% of the time, loads of fruit and veg and rarely have sweets or chocolate. I don't buy ready meals, cookie crisp-type cereals etc, so the odd meal of fish fingers and baked beans isn't going to kill them.

hifi · 18/04/2008 19:12

shapes of any kind, cherry ade (sic), lime ade, none organic eggs, milk. value white bread, sherbet dib dabs.

pointydog · 18/04/2008 19:19

Nah-thing is banned here, nah-thing.

Although if push came to shove, I would ban that cheese with maggots in it that carmenere ate once.

pointydog · 18/04/2008 19:19

I would ban my mum's fish pie. It's bogging.

LyraSilvertongue · 18/04/2008 19:22

DP fed the children tinned ravioli for breakfast the other day.
Tinned ravioli is, therefore, banned for evermore. Along with tinned macaroni cheese and most other tinned goods.

Minkus · 18/04/2008 19:44

Any fizzy drinks, unless at xmas/grown up parties when we get them in as mixers for guests

Nothing else banned as such, he probably gets it at grandparents but a lot of stuff I won't buy, much the same as others on here chicken nuggets processed ready meals cereal other than weetabix/porridge etc. Basically I try to buy only ingredients or stuff thats made from ingredients I would use (eg sauces witout sugar/preservatives/artificial additives etc) Do slip up sometimes and for the sake of "convenience" (i.e. lazy arsedness) but works ok in the main.

barbamama · 18/04/2008 19:54

ARe the following really that bad:

laughing cow triangles
pom bear crisps
heinz cheese ravioli

do you think?

Myself and 3y old eat a lot of the above for some reason, though in all other respects it is organic, home made, no added sugar/salt, E numbers are the work of the devil etc etc

My most banned thing is artificial food colouring in icing sugar etc - you might as well just give them speed and a fag.

TeenyTinyTorya · 18/04/2008 20:00

Lots of chocolate (except for me )
Lots of sweets (except me occasionally
Ready meals
Processed food
Sugary cereals
Drinks with sweetners in

Doobydoo · 18/04/2008 20:03

TheBlonde · 18/04/2008 20:10

Nothing is banned here
Try not to buy stuff with nuts in as DH is allergic and I'd like him to stay alive

We enjoy baby food in jars, hot dogs, hamburger helper, haribo, kit kats, diet coke and many other lovely foods

swiftyknickers · 18/04/2008 20:12

shitty sausages, sweetners as make us all crackers, ds is only 3 so no fizzys but everything else i am pretty chilled about.

towhoever said they only have chocolate in the house at xmas and burpdays. i reckon we have it in some shape or form every day!!!

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 20:12

ALL artificial sweetners.

Battery or intensively farmed meat or eggs

mosschops30 · 18/04/2008 20:14

Nothing is banned here but thats not to say we eat turkey twizzlers every day.
I wasnt denied anything as a child and have a healthy relationship with food. IMHO banning things only increases your need for them and creates unhealthy relationships

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 20:14

artificial sweetners are shit, though.

barcelonababe · 18/04/2008 20:16

non organic meat, dairy, vegs..

baked beans

white bread

fizzy drinks

anything with e-numbers

posieflump · 18/04/2008 20:19

nothing is banned here
ready meals are often our dinner

have to say wouldn't rush to buy Turkey Twizzlers though, but only cos Jamie Oliver put me off - had never heard of them before

halogen · 18/04/2008 20:23

Ready meals
Artificial sweeteners
Fizzy drinks
Intensively reared meat/battery eggs

Anything else is allowed.

downbutnotout · 18/04/2008 20:25

Have just eaten a large kebab. Think I should probably keep my mouth shut.

barbamama · 18/04/2008 20:26

baked beans!!! not so bad surely!!

you lot are starting to make me worry - may have to refine smug holier than thou attitude towards my extended family who eat any old crap.
