After a blanket denial by other parents to recognise cheese strings (dd's party), I'll start with:
Ribena
processed cheese slices
coke for children
readymeals for children

and we are vegetarian.
Aside from that, dig in

wheras I wouldn't let my 3y old have it and so as such he is banned from it, for as long as I can stop him, which won't be that much longer I don't think ...

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 21:58

Oh, no, I wouldn't stop their eating it if it were served to them elsewhere. They haven't got any allergies and it would be so rude on the host.

DD1 does drink squash with aspartame and such at birthday parties.

But surely no one would make a fuss at a party unless they were allergy issues, no?

I just don't buy such things because I find them minging.

soph28 · 18/04/2008 22:01

Those are usually the ones I buy Expat!

My two LOVE the M&S meatballs and pasta kids meal. They can share one between them cos dd won't eat the meatballs (she's only 21mths) just the pasta! They also love the fish pie and cottage pie. Have all of above in the freezer atm but then I am due no.3 tomorrow. I mean surely this is exactly what ready meals are for? So I can still give them something tasty, hot and filling that I know they will eat when I have just had a new baby!

god, that's totally what they're for, absolutely. i think that m&s ready meals are pretty good by and large. their red wine lasagne, if it's on a buy one get one half price thing, is tasty, handy and cheaper than i can make it. same goes for my local butcher's steak pies, so that's what i get.

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 22:03

We're definitely going to go through and stock up on those before DC no. 3 gets here ourselves, soph.

They looked scrummy.

I did pick up the M&S pesto on Aitch's recommendation from another thread, however. Will give it a go tomorrow.

And right now they have marinades buy one get half off.

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 18/04/2008 22:03

good luck for the new baby, soph.

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 18/04/2008 22:04

oh i hope you like it, expat. someone else said they hated it on that thread so who knows? i think it's much better than sacla or bertolli.

maidamess · 18/04/2008 22:05

nothings banned in my house. Although we had a BBQ last year and a friend bought round a tin of Frankfurters which gave me an attack of the vapours.

soph28 · 18/04/2008 22:12

Thanks Aitch

M&S had loads of buy one get half off deals on when I was in recently- mmmmmmmmm.

soph28 · 18/04/2008 22:14

oh and forgot to say Congratulations Expat

Alambil · 18/04/2008 22:19

I like M&S kids ready meals because the ingredients are normal mostly...

I don't ban anything but don't buy anything containing nuts because I don't like it and DS doesn't like most kid's food; ie nuggets/fish fingers/chips etc - strangely eats them at school though; think they are tastier!

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 18/04/2008 22:22

what else is good from M&S for soph?

in their gastropub range they do a boeuf bourgignon that comes with a tray of pommes dauphinoise. easily enough for two adults and dd and easy to serve with frozen peas.

also their roast veg and chicken tortilla things are great and SO quick. you heat up the veg and chicken bits in the micro in three mins and then do the tortilla wraps for 30 secs. it comes with sour cream and some salsa as well. (gawd, i can feel expat losing her mehicana sense of good humour here, forgive me).

i can't remember how much they are, less than a fiver, and so handy and tasty in emergencies. again more than enough for us three.

malfoy · 18/04/2008 22:24

grapes

Pavlovthecat · 18/04/2008 22:24

Fizz for dd, crap squash (love the wording!)
ready meals for DD (us occasionally).
Non-organic meat.
Battery chicken eggs
Non-organic milk
Celery

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 22:25

thanks, soph!

and best of luck to you with the new baby.

if we win the lotto, we're moving near an M&S Food Hall.

our neighbours are returning Scots who lived in Hertfordshire for over 30 years, and the wifey admits the one thing she misses is proximity to M&S.

also our HV commented on her fondness for M&S and how it's what misses about living in Glasgow.

at first i was a bit these wifeys are weirdies.

but now i see what all the fuss is about.

expatinscotland · 18/04/2008 22:26

i'm just now trying out their Jamaican jerk marinade on a chicken which will be roasted.

i'll do a review.

Janni · 19/04/2008 00:51

to my earlier list I will also add 6well6 dodgy meat of any description.

Janni · 19/04/2008 00:52

well dodgy

It might also have the devil's branding, 666

Oblomov · 19/04/2008 08:26

Cory the difference between banning and not buying = would allow at party.
as per Soph and Expat.
Does that make sense?

Acinonyx · 19/04/2008 09:51

I was wondering about the banning vs buying thing. We all eat no end of crap when we're out of the house. The only time I try to intervene is at regular non-festive visits with people who try to ply dd with cake/sweets/biscuits. That can get tiring.

morethanmum · 19/04/2008 10:00

surely banning is making an active decision that something is the devil's work, and not buying is just not fancying it at the time, but not ruling it out? Bit like Peter Andre against Ant and Dec?

Oblomov · 19/04/2008 10:33

No M&S near Expat? Oh god you poor woman. I never realised that you were THAT in the wilderness If I had the money, I would never shop anywhere else. My mum says if she won the lottery, she would aswell, have a personal delivery everyday.

WestCountryLass · 19/04/2008 12:36

Things I don't buy as a rule are crap ham/sausages etc (we do have ham and sausages though), fizzy drinks etc.

I don't think there is anything I hav e said my kids can't eat but I wouldn't feed them processed/sweets on a regular basis anyway

expatinscotland · 19/04/2008 13:47

M&S is pretty far from here, Ob.

And, if the ferries are not running, over 2 hours by car, including a mountain pass which I wouldn't want to cross if the ferries are cancelled because that means the weather is really, really bad.

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 19/04/2008 13:51

M&S metro three mins from here, la la laaa. i give them faaar too much og my money.
