Is purple for girls?? Toddler clothes…

I’ve attached an image of some dungarees that I really want to order for my son. The problem being they’re purple and orange.

my son has already been asked if he’s a girl lots of times and I usually only dress him in neutrals or blues/greens/rust so maybe I’m pushing it a bit with purple. I do feel like boys could pull these off but maybe I’m just hoping because I love them 😂

Can't see the picture but no, purple is not for girls. Purple is for royalty so tell your son he's a prince when he wears purple, it'll make his day I'm sure

TeddyBeans · 29/07/2024 18:35

Also my son looks cracking in pink 🤷‍♀️ it's just a colour at the end of the day

thursdaymurderclub · 29/07/2024 18:36

purple is a lovely colour for any sex or gendar... my GS loves to wear his pink tut-tut round the house!

good luck with this post

I can't see them but if you like them then put them on him.

Colours are irrelevant to a child's sex

CoffeeCatsAndVodka · 29/07/2024 18:38

Purple and orange is perfect for any child!

BryceQuinlan · 29/07/2024 18:38

Is there something wrong with being a girl?

BaronessBomburst · 29/07/2024 18:40

My son wears purple.
DH wears purple.
Roman emperors wore purple togas.
There shouldn't be such a thing as gendered colours, but allowing for that some people think there are, purple isn't pink.

Turophilic · 29/07/2024 18:40

Purple is for emperors. Sounds perfect for a toddler, if my memory is accurate.

SilenceInside · 29/07/2024 18:40

Colours are not allocated by sex. If you like the dungarees and your son doesn't mind them then buy them. What is the issue if your son is asked if he is a girl? He just says no, I'm a boy, and that's that?

sal96 · 29/07/2024 18:42

Noo I don’t mind people asking at all. But I’m just wondering is it his outfits…

I’ve tried to add the photo again.

He’s 1 so he can’t really talk 😅

Those are orange anyway!

But children's clothes are for children.

Those are very unisex I'd say. I wouldn't be able to guess the sex either way.

coffeeandsleep · 29/07/2024 18:44

The dungarees are nice - not sure if nappy changes would be fiddly. People often think my baby girl is a boy and it doesn’t bother me, I don’t do the classic pink and massive bow type stuff though.

Yes they’re orange and purple. I think they work with boys and girls tbf but doubted myself when ordering them 🙈

I really dislike purple so probably wouldn’t buy them for any child.

Those are cute and definitely unisex.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 29/07/2024 18:45

Colours are for everyone. My boys had a lovely purple babygro when they were small. DS2s (17) favourite colour was pink for years. Now it's purple.

Those dungarees are orange anyway.

They're lovely I'd definitely put my son in those!

SilenceInside · 29/07/2024 18:47

@sal96 the way you said he'd already been asked if he's a girl kind of implied he was old enough to reply.

If he's 1 then it's even less of an issue. Those are orange mainly anyway.

I had some lovely pink tops for my DS when he was little that really brought out his blue eyes and blond hair.

Those dungarees are unisex. But you can totally buy girls' clothes for a boy. Nothing bad happens.

I think it is just extremely easy to confuse a small child's gender and unless you dress them extremely gender-coded, some people will get it wrong. Sometimes people mistook my boys for girls when they had short haircuts and happened to be wearing blue that day. Then on days they were wearing purple or yellow, no confusion. Sometimes people aren't sure and they ask. I think it doesn't matter at all Smile usually this is happening with very tiny children who don't even notice.
