What do you do with LO clothes once outgrown?

HazelEagle · 21/07/2024 14:49

I’d like to keep all LOs clothes but just wouldn’t have the space. Thinking of just keeping a few outfits per size as he grows older.

What do you all do? Could possible store then in loft of sell/donate them I suppose

Passed them on to friends if needed, otherwise charity shops. This was when I knew I was definitely not aiming to have another child.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 21/07/2024 14:51

Dd gives her dc's to a local charity shop. There is also a baby bank "sale" twice a year in the area to which people donate decent clothes/equipment.

Meadowfinch · 21/07/2024 14:52

Things he's wrecked go in the recycling.

School uniform is sold via the school whatsapp secondhand page,

Out of school stuff that is still fit to wear, is washed and goes to the Cancer Research shop.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2024 14:53

Why do you want to keep them? For another cold it memories?

tarheelbaby · 21/07/2024 14:53

I have a local friend with a DD who is a few years younger than mine. I pass on DDs' outgrown clothes to her. My friend has a further friend with a daughter younger than hers and she passes on everything to her.

I have saved a few very special outfits and dresses in the hopes that I'll have a DGD to wear them one day.

DinnaeFashYersel · 21/07/2024 14:54

Children's clothing bank.

TeenToTwenties · 21/07/2024 14:55

Charity shop. Let someone else enjoy them.

Omgwhatthehell · 21/07/2024 14:57

I’m (good naturedly!) laughing at the thought of keeping any!
We live in London in a two bedroom flat so just don’t have the room. We kept a couple of DS’s tiny babygrows. Anything in decent condition or a
good make goes into Vinted, and I pop the little money I make into DS’s savings. The rest goes
to the charity shop, baby bank or is passed onto a friend of DH’s who has a boy a year younger.

If we had the room and was going to have another I might keep more, but DS will be an only child.

stayathomer · 21/07/2024 15:00

Passed onto friends but realised afterwards they have clothes in much better condition than I’d have offered so second guessing myself 😅

Brainded · 21/07/2024 15:01

I used to give them to my cousins for their dc that were a year or two younger…but then as time went on I realised they really never said thank you all that much and I was pretty much saving them a bloody fortune (when they had more money than me anyway! ) so I stopped and I put them into charity. Was that A bit petty of me…probably!!

Cocteautriplet · 21/07/2024 15:01

I’m not having anymore so most of her outgrown clothing goes to charity via I collect clothing collections. Anything particularly nice goes to a friend for her younger granddaughter or I sell it on eBay. I think the eBay market for second hand clothing is completely over saturated atm though as nothing sells unless it’s priced ultra cheaply.

1VY · 21/07/2024 15:02

Various

One of two special items get kept for memory box.

Good condition items go to donate to women’s aid And Charity shop.

Good condition used school uniform gets sold by the school for funds.

Well used but clean uniform and underwear gets used by the nursery or school for “ accidents” .

Odd socks in good / new condition get used by nursery for crafts and making sock puppets .

SpikeGilesSandwich · 21/07/2024 15:04

Anything that isn't wrecked goes to the charity shop. I kept a tiny baby grow and first shoes but nothing else.
It is hard though, because I can't have another child, it breaks my heart to let them go.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 21/07/2024 15:04

I sell them on Vinted

HazelEagle · 21/07/2024 15:06

Thanks all - Just gone past newborn stage and breaks my heart to let go of them all. But I’ve been keeping his “best” stuff/outfits and will likely donate all of his baby grows and vests.

mynameiscalypso · 21/07/2024 15:06

Like others - decent stuff goes to family/friends with younger children, school stuff goes to school either to be sold or used as spares, everything else goes in a clothes recycling bin.

I think I have the outfit DS came home from hospital in and maybe his christening gown but I haven't kept anything else

GagaBinks · 21/07/2024 15:09

All sold on Vinted for me.

mondaytosunday · 21/07/2024 16:22

Pass to friends, donate. I kept about two or three outfits IN TOTAL from my kids childhood.

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 21/07/2024 18:05

I keep some sentimental things like the outfit they both came home in etc. Sister in law just had a child of the same sex so most of it is going to them.

If the size is out of season for them I have either sold on vinted (if branded) or given to the local baby bank. I also gave the tiny baby stuff to the local NICU as they posted on Facebook requesting vests and babygrows in the smallest sizes x

Mandarinaduck · 21/07/2024 18:08

Like others, friends or charity, but I couldn’t let go of a lot of the the baby stuff straight away, it was too sentimental. After a few years I was ready to let more of it go.

evtheria · 21/07/2024 18:14

Used to give them all to DP's best friend whose youngest was a couple years after our DS. Now his kid is a much bigger build than DS so no longer possible.

I sell what's in very good/good condition (used to eBay but now Vinted), then donate to locally run community shop what is in good condition but may be not worth anyone paying postage and fees on, eg Primark pjs.
Money made off sales helps pays for 'new' clothing for DS... off Vinted!

School uniform gets given to our local collection, - people don't pay for it, you just go pick what you want off the rails.

PS. I kept one or two tops from when DS was little, they weren’t expensive or anything but just such lovely tiny things that instantly remind me of what he looked like and how SMALL and SQUISHY he was at age 2, etc 😭😭😭

climbershell · 21/07/2024 20:39

Kept everything from first baby, selling, giving to friends, nursery and binning the really worn stuff this time, as last baby.

I've kept a bunch of stuff from the 0-9 months stuff, which I'll probably get made into a blanket/throw or something

MixedCouple2 · 21/07/2024 20:56

As we are having more kids we vaccum packed and stored in the attic.
The very special putfits we kept on keep safe boxes foe the kids when they are older.

Once done with kids anything that is im good condition we will donate / sell / pass on. Anything not worth keeping not in good order will be recycled.

HippeePrincess · 21/07/2024 21:01

Kept loads from dc1 pointlessly really, hardly any was usable for dc2 different shaped baby, different age to season so nothing season specific fit.
sold everything ever since, Facebook, vinted, eBay, anything crap gets weighed in. Usually manage to make enough to buy the next size up second hand and top up with the odd new bit.

H930 · 21/07/2024 21:09

I kept all DS1’s things in plastic storage boxes in our loft, organised by size, hoping one day to use them again. We had surprise (but very much wanted) DS2 and I’m now thanking past me for being so organised! We’re definitely done now though so as DS2 outgrows things I’m selling them on Vinted and keeping one or two very lovely sentimental things.
