I hated people giving their children snacks in the supermarket tonight I was feeding my child snacks on the way round.
Amongst other things I thought I wouldn't do.

Wouldn't use a dummy...

Wouldn't give in to the whining at the shops just to get them to give me some peace/stop people looking

Wouldn't buy loads of plastic tat

Wouldn't put the tv on so I could get on with stuff (we'd do that together of course, whilst learning and bonding)

Wouldn't end up with toys instead of a carpet some days

Wouldn't end up with boxes of 'art' I'm attached to but to anyone else are sheets of paper which have been scribbled on

Wouldn't sometimes turn down social events because I've had a mad day and I now just want to curl up watching trash once it reaches the end (and inevitably fall asleep watching it)

Ahhh too many things!

Buy clothes with cartoon characters on them.

I’ve managed to get away with it for a few years, but dd is 4 now & asked for some bits for Christmas from Santa
Once the grandparents got a whiff that she loved this cartoon, she got alllll the merchandise, pjs, cap, T-shirt, tracksuit, socks 🤣

WhatInTheFuckery · 19/02/2024 19:52

Buy tacky outfits with Peppa on or Minnie Mouse, or glittery shoes and trainers that my 4yo DD bloody loves

thinkingcapon · 19/02/2024 20:02

Be on Mumsnet!

thinkingcapon · 19/02/2024 20:03

And become a Mum!

Shiningout · 19/02/2024 20:03

Screens, chocolate cereal every morning for breakfast, both sound bad but I am a good parent in many other ways honest, 😂😂

Allow my kids to eat Haribo. Karma returned when they got to an age to be allowed to go to the shop with their pocket money. These plastic 'sweets' became a favourite 🤬

Let my kids eat in the car

user1497787065 · 19/02/2024 20:14

Lift baby up so I could have a sniff to see if they had pooed. I was appalled at my SIL doing that.

BroccoliHighkicks · 19/02/2024 20:21

'Kids don't need to eat in the car'

Took the toddler car seat out for an MOT and it looked like we had mice living in there.

FramleyParsonage · 19/02/2024 20:24

Talk about my baby's poo. But when he was a baby, it was one of our main topics of conversation

Universalfamily · 19/02/2024 20:28

..never expect to hear exactly the same phrases my mum (and nana) said coming put of my mouth!
"Close the window, we're not heating the garden"
"What's your name and don't lie to me" (very helpful when sleep deprived).
"I don't care who does it, you're not".
Also the classic Paddington Bear hard stare by mum used to keep us in line.

Bubblebait · 19/02/2024 20:31

Wear Character clothing.. argh but it makes them so happy! So of course, I've succumbed Grin

awitchoftroubleinelectricblue · 19/02/2024 20:31

Let my dc wear named brands. Let them watch Disney. Make them listen to old music, and properly listen to it and talk about the meaning of it etc. I'd stay up to date and only listen to the modern stuff.
