I hated people giving their children snacks in the supermarket tonight I was feeding my child snacks on the way round.
Amongst other things I thought I wouldn't do.

Never have them sleep in my bed or me in theirs, my now 15yr old dd and I have slept in the same bed either hers or mine for most of her life, her recent asd diagnosis explains why she couldn’t sleep, I would do it again tho just to actually get some shut eye

And become a Mum!

Yep, that's what I was coming to say 😂

Newsenmum · 19/02/2024 20:46

The screens.
so many screens!

Let my kids ride in the main bit of the shopping trolley!

Be relaxed about outrageous teenage outfits. Not a hill to die on. Dont give a stuff what judgey gits say. Walk a mile in my shoes.

Cockapoopoopoo · 19/02/2024 20:53

Buy plastic tat. It was okay for the first year but once they start developing their own wants and interests it becomes a lot more difficult.

Screens. I don't mind a bit of TV but wasn't keen on Ipads but there are so many hours in the day and DD has never once, in her five years of life, taken herself off to play for more than five minutes at a time.

Questioningquest · 19/02/2024 20:56

Let them wear "ugly" clothes with characters on. Thankfully we've managed to keep most of them as pyjamas/lounge wear.
Also the "I don't care what Timmy's parents let him do, you are NOT doing that"
and "So if Sarah jumped off a bridge, would you copy her?"

Andnowshesatoddler · 19/02/2024 21:29

Oh yes screens, we was going to have music and book time of an evening unfortunately ms Rachel has provided the music and she tries to eat the books.
Think we lasted until day four without dancing fruit.

Oh god so many. Today just so I could cook dinner my toddler watched fucking blippi on my phone while my 5 year old had tv then for a 'break' from each screen I just came and swapped them over so my eldest had the phone for a bit and toddler had blippi on tv.

Pre-kids that would've mortified me but now I just think it's not all the time / every day and I need to survive and cook somehow!

Dolly567 · 19/02/2024 21:38

I wasn't around children before I got pregnant so I never thought of these things ... I didn't even know they napped until I had my first Blush
Gosh .. haha

Dolly567 · 19/02/2024 21:41

Although have I become this Grin I won't let me five year old have an iPad or play video games like his friends at school do Blush
He does watch tv I just don't want the battle and obsession they get, not worth the hassle in my opinion
(Don't come for me haha)

VivaVivaa · 19/02/2024 21:42

Be one of those parents whose life alters massively just because they have DC. I'd just carry on doing exactly what I was doing and the kids would come along too right? 🫠

LeMoax · 19/02/2024 21:45

Gosh nearly 5 months old and so many already!
I thought I wouldn’t cosleep. I thought I wouldn’t exclusively breastfeed (thought I’d combi feed).
I thought I wouldn’t use a dummy (lifesaver )!
I thought I wouldn’t need a sling…in reality I’ve used our new bugaboo a handful of times and bought a sling in a rush which I’ve used every day.
I thought my baby would follow a routine..unfortunately he hasn’t read the books. Ha!

TheBirdintheCave · 19/02/2024 22:11

I said I'd never take mine on holiday until they were old enough to enjoy the experience as I didn't see the point if he wouldn't remember it. Turns out I love travelling with my son and he loves it too 😂

Oh and I also didn't like dummies until son was three days old and my husband I hadn't slept. Then the dummy was a gift from God 😅

I think most other things I stuck with though. I said I'd never use disposable nappies and managed that from birth. We also bought a good travel cot so we could still go out for board games evenings at friend's houses.

CB2611 · 19/02/2024 23:06

Never let my child eat crap.
Never scream like a banshee at my child when they are naughty, I'd always be calm and collected and handle their behaviour professionally 😂
Never permit screen time.
Oh how naive was I?

TheBlueAndAmber · 19/02/2024 23:46

I was never going to….

Spit on a tissue to clean his mucky face
Steer him across the road by his head
Let him watch so much tv
Let him get filthy in the garden as long as he was playing happy
Allow him to get into bed if he woke in the night, so we all went back to sleep
Squeeze into his bed so we went back to sleep
Spoil him at Christmas and Birthdays

Hes 38 now and still thanks me for a lovely childhood!!

JDJT · 19/02/2024 23:54

Co-sleep

Andnowshesatoddler · 20/02/2024 10:22

I wouldn't use every opportunity to get some time off from my child, why would I not want them with me 24/7?!
God I was a c.nt

I’ve just given my 7 month old some of my pizza because he didn’t want his lovingly prepared 4 veggie fritters and I couldn’t be bothered with him glaring at me anymore.

Pretty certain that wasn’t the plan pre kids. Pizza before one is absolutely for fun though so 🤷🏻‍♀️
