what age would YOU say this is suitable for?

here i know the elc say 18 months but would you think 1 year old would be ok?
im not sure if the toy manufactures are over cauctious or what?

They need to be able to climb the ladder and (this is the tricky bit) get from standing at the top to sitting down.

Fine for a 1 year old to grow into but I think 18 months is probably not far off being right. some will be ready before this of course.

If you are thinking of for a 1st birthday I think it would be okay as the parent could put the child on to the slide for them to go down and if they are walking, support them going up the steps.

under supervision - my 13 mo DS broke his arm falling off a near identical slide last summer whilst being vaguely watched by DH. Now at 21 months the same accident wouldn't happen.

I agree under supervision is a fun toy and could be great for later in the year

my ds would not have begun to use it by himself aged 1

how about one of those rockers where 1, 2 or 3 children can sit on? that would be quite suitable for a 1 year old and has quite long lasting play value IMO

1 1/2-2. Friends' dd had one ratehr mroe enclosed for 1st b'day and unless a very confident walker/climber (as she was then) they need constant supervision so as not to fall when changing hand grip and position at top or to climb up the slide and lose balance.

dd1 would have been fine on it unsupervised at that age. Now, at nearly 2yrs, she goes on a slide twice the height unsupervised.

Infact, we never bothered with the small slides. We just went straight onto a large one . (She was supervised in the early stages though)

A lot of babies couldn't use it at a year because they couldn't walk or weren't very competent anyway. DS1 didn't walk until 14 months so would have had to put him on the top. Actually DS2 walked at 11 mths and I don't think he would have been that great at it either.

I think realistically for a child to use it on their own without more than a guiding hand from an adult 18mths is about right.

Buy it to grow into but don't expect them to be able to handle it alone at a year.

agree with franny rocker is better we got ds one for his first birthday he is 4.4yrs and he and both dds still use it. We also have one of those slides but agree they couldnt use it independently until 18mths or so.

meant to say ds and dd2 both walked at 9mths and were climbers by 11mths but it is the getting to the top and sitting down I would be wary of as I know even now at 14mths and able to go up and down stairs DD2 would just go to walk off the slide.

although I don't think this one is amazingly sturdy from the look of it, you can get very solid ones that a 1 year old could clamber all over fairly safely

ds is 20 months and his friend 19 months and both still have to be sat at the top of the slide and helped to slide down it.

to be honest my ds had so many age related toys i liked it when he had stuff he could grow to use come summer under supervision 1 yr old could use it

or you could look at sand pit or something for garden that they couldnt fall and hurt themselves on and get a gardening set with spade bucket my ds loved things like that at that also

anything that is suitable for a child under 3 is safety wise ok for a child ANY age under 3... so age 2 is safety wise ok for a baby...

whilst they may not be able to play with it in the way manufactures intend they are still liekly to have fun with it and learn something from it... (even just touching / looking at it when tiny) so take all ages that are under 36 months with a pinch of salt... as safe for any child

also yes, there are several babies a lot younger than 18 months who would enjoy that slide ... especially the more mobile ones!

ds2 got one similar (but without the sides/handles) for his first birthday. He managed fine. I taught him to go down head first
