I was thinking crossiants with ham and cheese, maybe some chocolate filled ones too.
but it’s not really a big breakfast to keep us going is it ?

what do you guys have for breakfast on Christmas Day?

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 14/12/2023 20:16

we're doing Brie cranberry and rocket seeded bagels.

Christmas porridge (edible glitter sprinkled over it) kept them going during a busy day

This is a really cute idea! I might do this on DS's porridge before Christmas 🎅🏼

I always used to do a full English but then nobody would eat Christmas lunch so now I don’t bother. We usually eat about 2pm so they’ll just have something light and I don’t have anything (I’m not a breakfast eater).

Celebrations/ roses whatever chocs we get

We have half a grapefruit with sugar grilled on top (a long-standing family tradition that I assume originated in the 70s), panettone and hot chocolate/coffee/mocha depending on preference.
When Dc were younger they would have half an orange instead of the grapefruit.

Hope you also have half a maraschino cherry in the centre!

SquigglePigs · 14/12/2023 20:25

We're having croissants and pain au chocolat but will have also a Weetabix or something similar first so that breakfast is actually filling.

Chickenwing2 · 14/12/2023 20:25

Bacon sandwich washed down with a Buck's Fizz! And chocolate after.

I always have room for Christmas dinner, it's never been a problem Grin

Smoked salmon on scrambled eggs, with a glass of champagne not far behind.

Mmmmmm this was always our go-to pre-kids. Sadly can't eat eggs any more. I miss this!

Wannabedisneyprincess · 14/12/2023 20:27

Frozen pastries that I put in the oven while we open presents then the DC will also probably want cereal followed by chocolate before Xmas lunch about 1ish and more snacks in between as they are bottomless pits 🙈

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 14/12/2023 20:33

I always had my usual cereal as a kid then I was allowed to eat whatever for the rest of the day.

It's been interesting reading this thread as my kids are 3 years old, and 10 months old. So our traditions are kind of starting this year :) I'll need to think of a breakfast for us!

LittleBearPad · 14/12/2023 20:36

Bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, beans! etc and Bucks Fizz

We do have lunch about 4/5pm though so brunch works well

Atomickittyxx · 14/12/2023 20:38

We do the porridge with glitter on Dec 1st whilst listening to Christmas music 😂 kids love it! But for Christmas day it's got to be chocolate!! With a Bailey's coffee 😉.

MentalLoadOverload · 14/12/2023 20:43

I let DC choose. This year will be pancakes. I’m not cooking the lunch though so I don’t mind making pancakes. And lunch will be mid afternoon so substantial breakfast for the win.

SantaExpress · 14/12/2023 20:53

posh croissants with good butter, plenty of tea and a poke at the nice biscuits, around 9/9.30am, then bits of chocolate and taste-testing the Christmas drinks til “The Dinner” around 4pm as it’s getting dark. Candles lit, tree lit, lovely cosy light.

theduchessofspork · 14/12/2023 20:54

Eggs on toast or something - we eat quite late. Never got into a fancy Christmas breakfast tho my MIL does slug whisky into her coffee

EnjoythemoneyJane · 14/12/2023 20:57

A bit of a free for all here - usually coffee, orange juice and chocolate, maybe croissants, pannetone, toast, definitely champagne … depends who’s up and what they fancy, and as long as it doesn’t get in the way of lunch prep I don’t really care. Sometimes I’ll do smoked salmon blinis if we’re not eating until much later, but an actual breakfast feels like way too much food and way too much hassle.

Filled croissants is perfect - realistically how long do you need to ‘keep going’ for? If your kids are really little you might need to have some snacky stuff to hand (fruit, cereal or whatever), esp if they’ve been up since the crack, but otherwise that sounds plenty to keep everyone ticking over. Also depends what time you plan to have your main meal and what the gap is?

Cheeseplantalltheway · 14/12/2023 20:59

Chocolate. Always chocolate.

Maybe some Prosecco too.

Chocolate then we have nibbles late morning while food is cooking.

hemiller · 14/12/2023 21:00

We have and I always have had since a child😂 Bacon baguettes with mushrooms and ketchup! With bux fizz or orange juice for the kids!

My dd is having it. She tried it once when we were out. It's not something we have in the fridge just kicking about Grin

What’s wrong with smoked salmon & champagne? It’s delicious, and it is Christmas. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly, Don't knock it until you have tried it. It's a great breakfast.

wherethewildthingsgo · 14/12/2023 21:15

We always have smoked salmon. Normally on blinis but sometimes on bagels with cream cheese.
