Generally speaking do children around 7.5 years old believe in Santa? This would be year 2 in school. Generally speaking! I know some children will learn older/younger than others of course

Yes absolutely

rorret · 10/12/2023 15:16

Yes I would say so. Why?

Cloudisi · 10/12/2023 15:16

Mine is 8 in 2 months and has been saying she does not believe snd it's "just parents doing it". Not sure whether to try and keep it going, think will be the last year sadly, thought she's a bit young to not believe. Year 3.

Ds3 is 6 in Y2 and he believes 100% as do all of his friends that I know, some of whom are 6 and some are 7.

Newgolddream70 · 10/12/2023 15:18

My DS8 Year 4 still believes and hasn't even questioned it.

Lorelaigilmore88 · 10/12/2023 15:18

Mine is nearly 8 and we keep up the pretense but i suspect she knows... she's been questioning it a lot and definitely suspects. I think this will be the last xmas before she knows for sure. Which makes me sad really I'd like to keep it going a few more years

MilkChocolateCookie · 10/12/2023 15:18

Mine did at that age. Not all do though.

usernotfound0000 · 10/12/2023 15:18

Yes definitely in my experience. DD is 8 and in y4 and this is the first year she's started to question.

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 10/12/2023 15:20

My DD was 7 in August and still completely believes. My oldest DD who is 13 is helping keep the magic alive thankfully by writing to Santa etc.

DappledThings · 10/12/2023 15:20

DS is 7 and year 3. He stopped believing last year but from conversation with parents he seems to be a bit of an outlier.

namechangenanny · 10/12/2023 15:21

Of course they do. Mine is primary 6 (10.5 years old) and still very much believes. Our eldest stopped believing in primary 7 when he was 11. Eldest loves helping with everything now and makes it really special for our 10.5 year old.

TheWitche · 10/12/2023 15:23

DS 8 in Y3 still believes. I know a Y7 who does but I think you should really be letting them know before they head to high school!

Pineapplewaves · 10/12/2023 15:25

DS is 8 and in Primary 3, he and his classmates all seem to believe in Santa and their Elf, there's lots of chatter and excitement about it in the playground at drop off in the morning. None of the Mums on the class WhatsApp having mentioned their kids not believing.

TerroristToddler · 10/12/2023 15:27

DS is 7.5 and in year 3.

He has said a few things this year about maybe suspecting its actually us that do the Santa presents so I think he's beginning to stop believing

Ewoklady · 10/12/2023 15:30

My 9 year old absolutely believes - full of magic and awe. Ten year old I don’t think so but goes along with it.

RockSocks · 10/12/2023 15:45

DN 8 still firmly believes
Dd1,9 dd2,7 have known since 7/5
They now choose what to put in the others stocking

Had a child in dd1s class questioning why we don't have an elf watching us for santa the other day
Blamed it on the dog scaring them out of the house but think most of year 5 are figuring it out in our school

Kitkat1523 · 10/12/2023 15:51

My eldest GD is 8, year 3 ….she and all her friends believe

Hibernatalie · 10/12/2023 15:58

My dd turned 7 in August and is in Year 3 and 100% still believes.

Curlywurlycaz2 · 10/12/2023 15:58

My autistic 10YO hasn't really questioned it. My NT 8YO does question it. But I give him vague and elusive answers. Like I don't know if Santa does exist or not, but it's not me buying those presents.

TheSkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 10/12/2023 15:58

My 8yo believes, and I'm sure the vast majority of her friends do. My 10yo stopped believing at 9.5. I know some of the Y6 parents are planning to break the news to their DC after this Christmas, so it's not umcommon for 10/11 year olds to still believe.

Thesearmsofmine · 10/12/2023 15:59

Yes, all three of mine haves/do believe at that age.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 10/12/2023 16:00

I remember at 8 that I'd figured it out but didn't let on as I didn't want to upset my parents!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/12/2023 16:01

Yes

id say on the whole more would believe than don’t

Thiswayorthatway · 10/12/2023 16:01

My 8.5 year old in Y4 believes as do most of the class

InTheRainOnATrain · 10/12/2023 16:03

7.5 (so probably Y3 not Y2 unless they’re out year group) then I’d say it’s 50:50. Even the parents may not be sure because it’s very common for kids to keep up the pretence either because they’re not 100% sure so are hedging their bets, maybe they think it’s just fun to go along with the story or even maybe they’ve wrongly come to the conclusion that presents are somehow contingent on believing. My 6YO DD talks all the talk and will insist she believes, but I know she doesn’t because she told me so 6 months ago.
