My DD is 8 months old and her chosen method of getting around is pushing herself along with her legs while lay on her back. I'm not keen on her doing this as she is constantly rubbing the back of her head on the carpet! She doesn't even attempt to try and crawl, she can sit unaided but will always be trying to throw herself backwards so she can start back shuffling.
We do tummy time with her and try to encourage her to move forward on her tummy with her favourite toys etc but she gets really upset and just wants to back shuffle. We have also tried putting her into the crawling position which she is very sturdy in but she just lowers herself back down onto her tummy and onto her back again. She can't get herself into the sitting position unless we put her in it either, whereas babies who crawl are able to as they are already upright.
At the moment I really can't see how she will ever learn how to crawl doing this or even be able to pull herself up onto furniture! I wouldn't be concerned if she showed some signs of just army crawling but she doesn't even do that, she has never moved forwards on her front.
Has anyone else had experience with this, if so when did your baby learn to crawl?
