For me it's -

Kids - MGMT
Fantasy - Mariah Carey

Both just make me well up in the most lovely way!

What's yours?

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA for my daughter - my mum used to well up when she listened to it and now I do the same (much to my daughter’s hilarity!)

California Dreaming - we used to play that a lot in the car as they loved it and we’d all sing along doing the male/female harmonies. Happy memories 😊

LostFrog · 17/11/2023 19:52

We always used to play Rather Be by Clean Bandit in the car on long journeys.. “when I am with you there’s no place I’d rather be”.. and sing along. They’ve all got headphones on nowadays and are in their own little worlds 😰

A song that I used to dislike as a child, but now I tell my kids. Listen to these lyrics and never forget I'm here for you.

It's these lines out of
A bridge over troubled waters
"l'm on your side, when times get tough and friends just can't be found like a bridge over troubled waters I will lay me down'

And as some.one with bipolar " shine on you crazy diamond" has me in pieces

Bonnie Tyler - If I could turn back time...😏

LadyGrillingSole · 17/11/2023 20:11

I remember DS singing along to Caught By The Fuzz when he was a toddler 😎

DD's favourite song, when asked at primary school, was Under The Bridge by RHCP 😎

Both songs make me well up now 🙁

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA, such a lovely song.

Tisfortired · 17/11/2023 20:38

My mum used to sing Carole King ‘You’ve got a Friend’ to me so that song reminds me of her and I also sing it to my own kids now.

winter spring summer or fall, all you have to do is call…

mnahmnah · 17/11/2023 20:46

Both of mine are totally inappropriate, but they were big at the time so take me right back to the newborn days

Jessie J - Domino

Niall Horan - Slow Hands

😂

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/11/2023 21:02

I predict a riot...

And every song in Pitch Perfect.

Bootskates · 17/11/2023 21:12

How long will I love you by Ellie Goulding. Was playing when I went for my scan and I'd sing it to her as a baby

"When a child is born". Reminds me of night feeds with the Xmas lights on when she was a teeny newborn and I'd have xmas songs on low.

Good Times go by too fast by Dylan Scott always brings a lump to the throat

Singsonggsu · 17/11/2023 21:14

Haha love this!
Mine is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt (excuse the spelling if it’s wrong!)
We spent a few months in the US when our kids were small and this takes me right back!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/11/2023 21:15

All of the Tangled soundtrack. I can't speak when I listen as I'll cry. In a good way but still Grin

Slipping to through my fingers - the words are so true. Let the Ugly Crying commence

Gowlett · 17/11/2023 21:17

Lovely Day - Bill Withers

Namechangedasouting987 · 17/11/2023 21:19

Humans by the Killers (I had all mine believing for years that the lyric was 'Are we human, or are we hamsters')
Roll Away Your Stone by Munford and son and
Bicycle by Queen. Both of which they used to dance madly to in the kitchen of our old house, lying on their backs pretending to cycle and sliding across the tiles on their socks.
I can picture them now....

Laserbird16 · 17/11/2023 21:20

Cover me in sunshine by Pink, lovely

mafsafanuk · 17/11/2023 21:42

Ds1- Hey Jude and boys of summer- Don Henley.
Ds2- Annie's song - John Denver
Dd- PennyLane Lane
Ds3- Beautiful boy - John Lennon and the baby - Blake Shelton

Rowgtfc72 · 17/11/2023 21:51

Nikki minaj- starships. Dd is ginger ninja, we convinced her she was singing higher ninja instead of higher than a mother fucker.
Ruby by the kaiser chiefs, used to substitute dds name for Ruby and sing it to her on her changing mat.
I hear thunder by Prodigy- toddler dds favourite car song.
Can't listen to Slipping through my fingers. Dd had the main part in mama Mia in the end of year 6 musical. As I sat down to watch one of the teachers said- I hope you've brought tissues.

Gazelda · 17/11/2023 22:00

1000 miles. Vanessa Carlton

Rule the World. Take That. It was the biggest hit when DD was a newborn. I vividly remember it playing during my first ever solo drive with her. I felt so much responsibility, yet the most incredible 'we're in this together, we can do anything'

Mwnci123 · 17/11/2023 22:02

DD1- Once Upon a Dream
DD2- The Best Thing That Ever Happened

Lovely thread.

McQueensMuse · 17/11/2023 22:08

DD
You are my sunshine, It was the song I sang to her at bedtime.
Perfect by pink

DS1
The radio was playing "you'll be in my heart" by Phil Collins as the midwife placed newborn DS in my arms, The lyrics are perfect.

Little lion man by mumford and sons, I was singing along but changed the lyrics to "messed it up this time" and a 4 year old DS shouted from the bathroom "it's not messed it up, it's fucked it up mummy"

DS2

Back in black by AC/DC he boogied in my tummy every time I played this.

LighthouseTheme · 17/11/2023 22:11

Not a song, as such - but my daughter (aged about 7 or 8) would always ask me to play the piano just after she went to bed - one specific tune, "Clair de Lune" (Debussy). She knew the name of it but not that it was a well-known classical piece, she just liked it to help send her off to sleep (piano was in the dining room beneath her bedroom). She is 35 now, and I still play it almost every day - and 100% of the time, remember how she loved it when she was little.

(Of course, it is now being used on an ad for tuna fish!)

24HoursFromTulseHill · 18/11/2023 06:57

DS was born at 11:59pm so 11:59 by Blondie is his song.
I also sing Crocodile Rock to him and have a dance in the kitchen.

imnotthatkindofmum · 18/11/2023 08:28

Brown eyed girl by van Morrison. Always sang it to all 3 DDs as they all have beautiful brown eyes!

Also you and me by the wannadies as I used to sing it to my eldest.

But the one that makes me bawl is slipping through my fingers by ABBA has been a big deal this year with my big girl leaving school
And going to college!
