4 month sleep regression, anyone else?

God help me.

This is torture.

From sleeping from 8pm until 3am then up for a feed then back down until 7/8 to now waking up every 2/3 hours I am exhausted.

We didn't have this with my first. Is this our punishment 😂

Anyone else going through the same??

Omg yes, us! Although we’ve had continuous problems with sleep where DD will only contact sleep so never cracked the nights however she has always slept through (albeit on one of us) but it’s meant we can easily do shifts with her and I spend mine getting her to try the cot, which she was JUST getting better at!

Now she just can’t settle, naps in the day are a fight and then short! She’s been awake 5 times tonight and when she has slept she’s tossed and turned the whole time - poor little love!

My DH has been on nights too so full respect to any solo parents! I think I’ve had 2 hours sleep in 3 days 🥱😭

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 13/11/2023 08:28

Just to say this is so hard but it does pass over. It lasted about 2-3 weeks in our house and then she went back to sleeping like the first poster has described x

TreaclePlum · 13/11/2023 09:58

I VERY CLEARLY remember the 4m regression with my first. It was awful. She was never great but it was bearable...until then! Think i started co sleeping a bit round then.

My 2nd is 12 days old...all to come again!

I think it lasted about 2 weeks, i feel for you but it will pass just need to ride it out x

My DS & DD have just come out the other side after 2 long weeks of broken sleep and some very LONG nights! They are 5 months today and back to sleeping from 8pm-630am
Hang in there OP!

Hang in there OP!

She's barely slept all day and is tossing and turning as we speak.

I'm hoping we have a better night.

So glad your twins had a breakthrough!

Thank you!

Hi my DD is now 6 months and we were hit hard by the 4 month regression. She was waking on average every 45 mins with a 2 hour stretch midway through the night. We tried everything (co sleeping, stricter bedtime, better nap routine) but nothing worked she just could sleep with being held/bf. Eventually I kind of sleep trained (I stopped feeding her to sleep and would put her down drowsy but awake. The first night she cried, I stayed next to her crib in a chair and shush patted her. After the first night she just fussed for ten minutes before falling asleep on her own. Now I just put her down and she goes on her side and sleeps. Controversial with the sleep training but I was a zombie couldn't function, DH was sleeping in the spare room - things were grim! Hope things improve for you x

LunaBear26 · 14/11/2023 15:56

My 4 month old will only sleep for 1hr45 at the most in one go (usually is brien 45 minsand an hour)! I feel your pain! He's never been a good sleeper and I don't know how long this will all last 😟it's soul destroying!

LunaBear26 · 14/11/2023 15:58

@Naters3232 hours long did the sleep training take? I'm trying pick up put down with mine and I think it's working but so slowly! 😫

Naters3232 · 14/11/2023 16:00

It pretty much worked after 2-3 nights, the first night was the hardest then it got better. I did try the pick up put down and it didn't work for us 😔

teaandkittehs · 14/11/2023 17:52

Hopefully it will pass. Ours didn't, and after 10 weeks of 8 wake ups a night sometimes with only 20 mins between them, we sleep trained. We did a method where we went in and calmed her down after 2 minutes, then 2.5, and so on up until 5 minutes recurring except we never actually had to get to the 5 minutes window. The first night she was asleep in 12 minutes, and slept for 7 hours. The second night she was asleep in 7 minutes and slept for 9 hours. 3 mins the next night etc. I really hope your little one manages to link their sleep cycles naturally, but if not, sleep training does not have to involve hours of crying (we would have abandoned it and lived in sleep deprived hell if it hadn't worked so quickly and well). Good luck.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 15/11/2023 04:28

Thanks all for the messages and for sharing their experiences.

This is the second night in a row that's been much better.

And slept 7:30 until 11:45am, had a feed and a change and went right back down until 4am.

She's just had another feed and change and has drifted off.

Long may it continue ... until the next regression 🤣

Get the Wonder weeks App / book, tells you exactly when to expect it and it's surprisingly accurate! Glad it's improved for you x

teaandkittehs · 15/11/2023 15:39

None of them are as bad as this one!

I did, thank you. She's now entering another leap which I don't think will be as bad as the last one!

My other daughter was fine during the 4 month regression and I remember hearing it was so difficult. Glad we're coming out the other side! Until the next regression 😂

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 15/11/2023 18:08

@justanothermanicmonday1 there are 2 or 3 of them that are way worse than the rest x

teaandkittehs · 16/11/2023 11:29

From what I've read, the 4 month one is the worst. We made it through the 8 month one more easily but with some disturbances, waiting for the next one now 😉 she's 10.5 months, i gather it can go wrong again at 12 and 18 months but also in between due to the next nap transition (she's on two naps now but will start to move towards 1 go a couple of months so then there will be lots of fun navigating that) we can't win can we 😂🙄

Devilsmommy · 16/11/2023 11:37

@teaandkittehs oh we definitely never win 😅 my little one is almost 14mo now and in a way the sleep regressions didn't bother me because it wasn't any kind of change😭 he was the worst sleeper for the first year. He's just started sleeping through but naps are awful. He only ever had 2 30 min naps anyway but he's now doing 10 mins for first one and 30 for second. He just refuses point blank to go down 😫 I just know that 1 nap would not be enough yet. Can't wait for sleep issues to be a distant memory 🤣

justanothernamechangemonday · 16/11/2023 12:02

Hello. I am also living through this joy. And he's teething. And he's had a cold for 2 weeks. And we have more jabs tomorrow.

For what it's worth I have an almost two year old and she's fantastic. Sleeps 7-7 and only wakes when she's under the weather. We did have a rough time with her when my 4 month old was born. She was in our bed almost every night. Think it was just the changes to be honest. But no, we can't win😂😂🤣

Ah I'm so sorry. I hope your DC gets better soon!

We had a bad cold and a cough too, so we pushed her jabs back. We just had ours yesterday and she's been a bit unsettled bless her! Xx
