What age did you all stop breastfeeding?

To all breastfeeding mamas, I have a 7-month-old and I'm just curious: at what age do most of you stop breastfeeding? I realize everyone's journey is unique, which is exactly why I'm reaching out. How long do you think we should breastfeed to give our little ones the best start? Thanks!

DD - 3 months
DS - 2.5 months

Found formula much easier to gauge how much they had taken and to regular feed times, plus they slept tons better after switching full time to formula. I know that's not everyone's experience but worked for us. Couldn't cope with the cluster feeding!

I fed DD until 2 and a half years, I cut down then stopped because my periods didn’t return and I wanted another. DS is 8 months and exclusively breast fed. Plenty of health benefits for mum and baby continue or are cumulative (like breast cancer risk reduction) but it obviously depends on other factors. I was able to go away on 2-3 night hen weekends while DD was 2 years old without my supply being disrupted, for some that might not be the case. Anecdotally they’ve both had very little in the way of stomach bugs / ear infections / chest infections etc.

I was about 36 first time, 38 second time

Thanks for asking

I expect to continue a couple of years with DS but certainly want to make it to 1 year so I never have to bother with formula / bottles / sterilising things and all that - seems like quite a faff and I’m very lazy.

Longer than most but been judged for it so won't say the age

Same!!

BinkyBeaufort · 01/11/2023 16:40

37

Bax765 · 01/11/2023 16:41

12 months, when I returned to work.

Leighdown · 01/11/2023 16:45

18 months.

My supply had naturally been dwindling off and he was down to basically 2 mins before bed so I planned it that I'd do the last one on his 18 month 'birthday' and really take it in and have a last photo etc.

three years and three months,

I never intended to go that long. In fact, shamefully, I absolutely was that person pre child who would joke 'If they can ask for it they are too old for it.'

I let her naturally reduce by doing 'Dont offer, dont refuse'. She still fed mostly at bedtime and had even started dropping that.

I then went into hospital for a week and that knocked it on the head. She asked for it twice when I was home, and then a week later she pulled my top up and latched and realised it had all gone.

Very bittersweet, I still sometimes get the urge to offer it to her, It just always seemed to fix everything. Now I am going to have to actually parent the tantrums.....!

I did natural term breastfeeding, so exclusively till six months then as long as my children wanted, my eldest weaned age 8 and my youngest was 6 (yes, years). I did three years feeding them both.

1.baby breastfed 6 months
2.baby 2 years
3.baby 2 years
4.baby 3.5 years
5.baby still breastfeeding 15 months...
All of them stopped when they wanted.

RudolphTheRedNosedSpaniel · 01/11/2023 17:21

18 months for first DC then a year for second.

Once they have teeth and are eating solids they don't "need" it anymore.

Stop when you're ready op!

DragonFly98 · 01/11/2023 17:24

13 months because she bit me a lot and my breasts kept getting infected.

Imtootiredtothinkofausername · 01/11/2023 17:30

2 years 4 months with my first. She just lost interest and it came to a natural end. Youngest is still only little (5 months) but will just take her lead on it and continue until she is ready to stop.

AlltheFs · 01/11/2023 17:33

Just over 26 months. She potty trained at 2 so it felt right to stop then. Because her language was good we could use words to explain it too so was very easy.

Snugglemonkey · 01/11/2023 17:34

I fed my first until 3 1/2, feeding my second currently 11 months with no sign of stopping.

ChilliPixie · 01/11/2023 17:38

DC1 - 17 months - my milk dried up as I was pregnant with DC2
DC2 - 26 months
DC3 - 26 months

I wanted to get to at least the recommended 2 years.

SuperGinger · 01/11/2023 17:45

I breastfed my youngest for years (plural), it was not socially acceptable but I still recall how she would latch on and all the tension would leave both our bodies instantly.

I'm also prone to migraines and never had any while breastfeeding. In another life I could have been a wet nurse.

weegiemum · 01/11/2023 17:51

Dd1 -12 months
Ds -15 months
Dd2 - 23 months

Heartbreaktuna · 01/11/2023 18:07

16ms. I would have kept going if I didn't have to exclude dairy from my diet while doing it for his CMP allergy. That was torture!

mumofthree22 · 01/11/2023 18:44

Youngest 2.5 years but she never took a bottle or cup. The older ones between 4-6 months.

ALunchbox · 01/11/2023 18:49

4years and a half. Would have carried on longer but she said I had stopped producing milk.

mangotree6 · 01/11/2023 18:54

4 months

amispeakingintongues · 01/11/2023 19:19
