Winter nursery clothes

What do your toddlers wear to nursery in winter? My daughter prefers leggings and a top to tights and dress but it’s too cool now for leggings. She’s been going in wearing fleecy joggers this week - surprisingly hard to buy for little girls. What other options are there?

Why is it too cool for leggings?

CoconutRun · 27/10/2023 17:14

My dds wear fleece lined joggers in winter, they are just regular joggers really.
They keep her warm worn with long socks pulled up underneath.
She has a couple of pairs of wool joggers too that I got from Zara last year.

Porridgeislife · 27/10/2023 17:14

Her nursery called me and asked me to put her in warmer clothes. I was sending her in wearing leggings, vest & long sleeve top with a padded hooded coat for outside. Plus socks and winter boots.

Look in the boys section for joggers if you can't find them in the girls section!

Parker231 · 27/10/2023 17:17

Fleecy joggers are the same for boys and girls. Dark colours are most practical. Buy a cheap pack from the supermarket. Mine didn’t wear anything decent for nursery as they ruined everything very quickly.

CyberCritical · 27/10/2023 17:23

Primark boys joggers, they usually have a table full of them in half a dozen or more different colours and about £3 a pair, they are thicker than the girls ones and have decent pockets.

I found winter surprisingly difficult when DD was at nursery because inside was heated to the temperature of the sun and outside was cold so just went with joggers and then several layers on top - vest, tshirt, jumper, coat.

LittleMrsPretty · 27/10/2023 17:24

Primark do a zip up hoody and matching joggers for £3.50 each - available in lots of colours - I bought 2 sets for nursery clothes for my 2 year old DD.

Dyra · 27/10/2023 17:24

Joggers here as well. Picked up a few from Poundland.

LittleMrsPretty · 27/10/2023 17:24

These were in the girls section I got a pink and purple set

cocksstrideintheevening · 27/10/2023 17:25

Mine wore tights under leggings, refused anything else. I don't really get it though, it's not too cold for leggings inside. If it's for outside can she just take in some waterproof trousers?

Moveoverdarlin · 27/10/2023 17:27

My daughter wears leggings all through winter. Admittedly some cheaper ones are a bit thin, but I buy lots of navy Next leggings, with a drill round the bottom. Then a vest or tshirt and then a jumper or hoodie over the top. I wouldn’t put her in joggers, thick leggings are fine.

shakeitoffsis · 27/10/2023 17:43

How can it be too cold for leggings??

Waitwhat23 · 27/10/2023 17:53

I get my wee one's jogging bottoms from Asda as I find them nice and thick for winter. They do 5 packs with a range of colours.

maw29 · 27/10/2023 17:53

Dd wears fleece leggings at an outdoor nursery in Scotland where it's really cold.

Ostryga · 27/10/2023 17:58

Dd wore leggings, vest, long sleeve to and jumper. All the layers apart from jumper were thermal. Muddy puddles all in one lined suit thing for going outside.

Winter42 · 27/10/2023 18:04

I just got my daughter some fleece lined leggings from b&m. They were £5.99 and she loves them.

Housechat · 27/10/2023 18:06

Lindex do fleece lined leggings. They are very warm and nice prints.

Biscuitsandgravyforyou · 27/10/2023 18:06

H&M do girls fleece lined leggings in a variety of patterns

CoconutRun · 27/10/2023 18:44

Try Vinted too op, I get most of my dds nursery stuff from there. I usually buy in a bundle, got some nice quality stuff for pounds. Type in fleece leggings/joggers if that’s what your after.

Caspianberg · 27/10/2023 18:51

Zara do knitted leggings.

Can you not get fleece lined rain dungarees also for outdoor? Also Zara.

Ds only wears regular clothes inside at nursery as it’s like a furnace inside in winter. They then put rain trousers or snow salopettes in cold cold, and fleece and outdoor coat etc when they go outside. If I put tights under leggings he gets way to hot inside

Loz2033 · 27/10/2023 18:56

Do they not just mean add a sweatshirt or cardi over the top?

WhoHidTheCoffee · 27/10/2023 19:20

Sainsburys do some great fleece lined joggers which are very easy dressing for kids that age. Hopefully they still have some in stock.

Bamaluz · 27/10/2023 19:29

I would also think they mean a jacket, fleece or cardi over the long sleeved top.

skkyelark · 27/10/2023 21:21

We're in Scotland and had to abandon joggers once potty trained as they didn't stay up. Ribbed or knitted leggings (quite a few supermarkets, ribbed ones sometimes in the boys section), cord leggings (Morrisons or JoJo), fleece-lined leggings (H&M, Lindex, Next). Next also usually have some leggings that are just a heavier weight of jersey, although those are harder to identify on something like Vinted.

Juicyjuicymango · 27/10/2023 21:50

Next do thick fleece lined leggings in lots of different colours which are great. They're the ones with stars on the knees.

Otherwise agree with PP Primark do lots of mix and match 'track suits'
