Let 3 year old use iPad?

Would you let a just-turned 3 year old play age appropriate educational games on an iPad? (supervised and time limited)

Myself and my husband are having a difference of opinion!

And to counter the highly judgemental post below my kid goes to plenty of museums, we read lots of books, get out in nature and play lots of games etc the tablet serves a purpose it isn't for use all the time. We often do very long journeys due to where grandparents live (one set are abroad) and there's only so much time a kid can spend asleep or playing I spy. I think using it when you really need is key but limit it so it doesn't become a permanent feature in the home. Like @TropicalTrama our tablet lives in a cupboard when we are home.

Depends on the child and how easily you can set boundaries.

I have used it with mine - we do the Teach Your Monster to Read game. I do it sitting with them and we are talking/interacting the whole time. Its only for a short time. The rest of the day they are getting plenty of other activities and don't ask for it.

However some kids seem prone to getting hooked on such things. If I'd seen any sign of that, I'd have stopped it straight away. My friend can't let her kid near screens at all as he gets agressive and difficult and wants them all the time. Some children find them overstimulating. So without knowing your 3yo it's hard to say.

Certainly, he won't come to any harm NOT using one...
